Christian as a single specialist myself on the Senior Pro Tour, I really appreciate you sharing what’s going on in your head. Appreciated your humility and knowing what shots you still need to work on. Nice victory! You beat the number one player in the world! Onward and upward🚀
Learning a shot mid match is the pickleball equivalent to when an anime character levels up mid fight to beat their rival and I’m so here for it
You talking through your thought process along with what shots you are working on is an absolute gold mine!! This really helps me so much!!!
"This is the best player in the world....and Ben Johns" 😂
For singles players this commentary is incredibly helpful. Thank you for doing it. I learned so much!
17:01 - Bit confused here - Is Slicing on your first return bad? If so why?
In my neck of the woods, when the last point of a game is lost with a return hitting the net or going out, we call it “Andy’s Rule”, because I noticed the same thing you mention at the end of the first and second game, and have pointed it out to people. Easily 50% of games end with the return of serve - and it’s good to see that it happens at the pro level, not just the hacker level. There are times I’ve noticed that 75% of the games we’ll play will end that way and one outing, all of them did. I think it’s probably due to the person who’s trailing getting tight and/or thinking they have to have a really, really amazingly deep return (read: low percentage) rather than, as you mention, making your opponent play. Or giving up somewhat, and not really focusing on the final ball. Thanks for the commentary. I got a chuckle when you said something like, “between the #1 player in the world… and Ben Johns.”
I alos notice that when players reach the tenth point, they usually give away the next point or two and allow the other team to serve again.
what a great vid and congrats on the big win. so honest and forthright w your breakdown of points both good and bad. lots of people dont realize how hard you have to work on developing your shots and the mental game to even get close to beating a top player. I am sure Ben left the court pissed that he missed so many of his serves. Thanks again for providing us w this recap.
Bro awesome job. Loved the details on your mindset on this match. Let’s Go T.E.A.m Alshon!
I really enjoy these...hearing your self analysis and giving us pointers. Love the "timeout after a two point run" tip. Never see Ben look flustered and you definitely were in his head. Keep pushing! You are fun to watch and I will be a "get a picture with Christian" fan one of these days :)
Good job Mr. Alshon to have the mental toughness to beat the no. 1 player in the world. Keep up that mentality and keep working on your weaknesses. Enhance your strengths.
Really neat and informative bliw-by-blow accounting of a great match. Also congrats on beating Johns! That's no small feat. Would like to know a bit more of what's going on in your head during the match. You were able for instance to regain your momentum at crucial times and I'm curious as to what your mental process was to achieve that. So much of the game is a mental one, as you know. Anyway thanks for doing this post-match analysis. It's truly helpful on many levels. Beyond basic tutorials for sure. Cheers.
Congrats!!! Love the breakdown as always.
A deep chip return to the backhand is probably the hardest shot to counter. Try some 'Stress Relief' tea for your nerves and try a lob every once in awhile when your both at the net...:)
Christian Alshon, "This is the best player in the world, and Ben Johns" Love it!
Thanks!
Chris you played it amazing!!🎉! You are fast and coming from less time in the PB Court than Ben. You are humble, you share the game with us, that is a professional athlete level. I’will be on a top 3 by the end of the year💪🏼
Great Win!! It's great to see what hard work & determination brings. I really enjoy hearing your self analysis and pointers. I too plan on working on the brush volley. Keep posting bro!
Stayed until the end 😆. Loved hearing your thoughts. Didn’t get to meet you in Atlanta but look forward to it. Good luck the rest of the year 👍💪
Nice job. Great accomplishment! I enjoyed watching with comments. Thank you
Awesome job! Both with the match and the analysis! Thank you! GL!
Appreciate the analysis and the modesty, congrats on the huge win!!
What an amazing journey of yours we all get to be part of!! You bring a super refreshing persona to the TOP pro circuit incl humility & total genuiness. As a serial entrepreneur I respect your hard work ethic in & outside of Pb. Btw, "brush" is almost like a "roll" correct? any subtle difference?
I took off my previous comment because I believe I was too judgmental without knowing a little backstory of this kid. He reminds me of what my either of my nephews could be in volleyball or my godson in hockey. And although he’s climbed through the ranks quickly with pickleball you can tell he’s put in the work with pickleball coming from a tennis background. Look at Jack Sock. Let me tell you, for anyone coming from tennis even if you have only played tennis on a recreational level at (3.5 and above) it translates in to a better pickleball game in a matter of months - anyway it has for me and clearly it has for this kid too. I also like his personality. He talks about having a car for the first time and mentions his mom in a very endearing way. I like the respect that John’s gave him in a previous match where Alshon was hitting a lot of tweeners and almost won the match. I think the last set was 11-6 after splitting the first two. He may have done so though it didn’t look like it at first glance. Anyway, lastly regarding this match perhaps someone could shed some light as to why John’s seems upset with him in this match aside from losing. Was Alshon talking smack?
Congratulation! and you should be happy and the audience should give you a good cheer too. Hope you will be the single champion soon!!!
I loved the video. So nice to get into your head during the game.
Respect buddy and congrats for winning against Ben....not many people do that! He is an awesome player!
The "brush" is simply a firm wrist swinging topspin drive volley familiar to most tennis players. One can swing volley from both fh and bh sides, and with higher power when above net level. PB players with table tennis background are more accustomed to hitting flick volleys which are similar to their ping pong quick response drive shots. IMO, overall, drive volleys more consistent than flick volleys.
Excellent content. Very educational for someone like me(recreational 4.0) trying to up their game and start trying some 4.0 tournaments. Your commentary, I thought, was the perfect amount. The one time you wanted to review a point with longer discussion, I don't think UA-cam audience would have minded if you paused the video you were watching. Anyways, I feel these are a big help and appreciate it.
I think we know the outcome by the title. 😂 Great job though! I was excited to hear you beat him. You’ve been working hard.
Worth all 42 minutes, thanks for the insight!
Thank you for the review and posting. Some day tour venues will be obligated to have court tarps available. :) When players create a player's union, that can be one of the standards for venues. IMO, the serve is going to progress into something much more difficult to return instead of the show lob. If you watch JW, Julie, or Jorja, the always hit close balls and don't call them out. They are some of the best sports in the sport, along with Vivian David. :)
Video time was fine. Sometimes when you cut to much, it is difficult to follow.
Aloha Christian, You are the man !! Nice job ! Proud of you for doing the videos. learned a lot from listening to you. What is the secret to being consistent ? Staying on top ?
Bruh how is that ALW water?
😂 hes not gonna address that and catch a case haha
What state are you on the Registry?
Excellent video. Loved the breakdown
This may be a dumb question, but on Ben's serve at 36:56, do you think the dude who comes flying in towards Ben from the adjacent court affected the serve?
Great job! Congrats!
I like your videos, and i agree with you, it will be best to make them shorter.
It will be appreciated if you can show us the techniques on how to hit the shots you're practicing.
Also, if you can go through some points and tell us the reason you picked to hit the shot ,ie. Topspin, slice, drop... and why you choose that location, ie. Kitchen, down the line... ext.
Also, you said you were nervous at some points, please tell us how you dealt with that.
Thanks!
Congrats on the big W! So happy for you!
7-7 in the third I'm expecting to see Ben lock it down with error free play and you seemed to flip the script. Definitely a big step!! Congratulations.
Ever since you won this match (which I watched), I've been hoping you would do a post match commentary. You are getting better right before our eyes and your athleticism plus your desire to be at the top of the sport will serve you well in the coming months. I've told many of my pickleball buddies about your channel and they also are enjoying. Also, congratulations on getting your degree. I'm a UVA alumnus and selfishly wish you had stayed in Charlottesville.
Fun match. I believe you got the silver or bronze this tournament, correct? Would love to see you string some strong showings together. It is fun watching you play.
great vid mate
6:30 is that really an Ernie?
Hitting the ball before the leep.
Well done!
Congrats!!!
Wow! Congrats CA!!!❤👏💥💥🇺🇸💪
Fantastic play Christian
Great job Christian.
The wind is the story of this match.
Good commentary.
I made it all 42 min😂
Good luck on your Pb quest.
32:38 ya'll are welcome
Congratulations! Great analysis and insights sharing from your game. Learned so much from this clip 💪
We saw the double bounce. Good match, bad call man.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Good Job!
You mentioned that you realized that you need to flick volley instead of brush volley. What do you mean by a flick vs. brush?
You use mostly wrist with a flick (imagine swatting a fly with the back of your hand). You use mostly shoulder with a brush (imagine petting a horse upwards with the back of your hand)
So what was your grip when find your new shot?
Legend ❤
Anyone know what Christian's paddle weight is?
And yes congrats on beating Ben, it is a big deal!
Waiting for your video from Denver event.
You played great. Good job
When was this match?
We will see if you can even come close to having 10% of the wins Ben John has.
You may think 🤔 your good, not too shabby, but you have a long, long, long, long, long ways to go. Look forward to see you grow in the sport, mature in your game. Best to you !
🎉
Don’t you date a 16 year old?
What paddle do you use Alshon?
I think it's Diadem. Not sure which one?
@@brandonnielsen I am not sure which one. I know it's Diadem.
Why are you dating a middle schooler? You are 23 bro
Soooo hoping this is a rumor - bc if it’s true, it’s honestly really f’ed up
How many tweener jokes are we gonna see in the comments? Bring the heat people
Duffin match 06/08: You should change your nickname from the tweener king to the dumbest man on the PPA tour, Wow...I am going to laugh when they end your contract.
Yes You were making Ben TRYING to hard
Only a matter of time
Clearly an off day for Ben… Kudos anyway, but yeah, you’re not at his level. Imho, of course.
Why not enforce Ben johns serve? His paddle is above his wrist on 90% of the serves. PPA is dumb for some of these rules
Play tennis
I'm sure this game is fun to play but it sure is boring to watch.
SOOO many things is so cringe about this dude XD he should do an analysis of his harddrive
So this game, what's the point of the whole court when u come to the net literally every point
Dude. Its a goofy ass drinking game! Dont get so serious. It not like its tennis or golf that takes serious skill and takes yrs to learn. Ben John even said you can be top 20 in world in 6-8 months. Not another sport on planet that you can do that.
