    In this video, I vlog my experience at the PPA Tour stop in North Carolina, all while engaging in a heated debate on X (Twitter) with some of tennis' top professionals, both former and current. Watch to see me explain why pickleball is harder than tennis, and what Nick Kyrgios, Andy Roddick, and James Blake had to say about that.
    There's also a behind the scenes look at what it looks like to be a professional pickleball player and go up against some of the top talent in the game like Ben Johns and Anna Leigh Waters.

    If pickleball is harder than tennis someone explain to me how an 18 year old tennis player who has only been playing pickleball for maybe two years could beat the GOAT not once, but twice. That would be like a 17 year old taking up tennis and beating Novak - would never ever happen.

    • @casey10614
      @casey10614 9 місяців тому

      Novak never got beat by a younger player is what you are saying? Goat goes by wins vs loses homie. Novak don't want the smoke of BJ in PB and ain't no pros or former pros gonna put any money down in PB to beat Alshon cause they can't do it. I got my money on roddick though if they play tennis! Lets do a charity match that would be fun. Some of yall take things to seriously its all fun.
      Alshon keep going on your journey, train hard but have fun. Its what life's all about. Keep growing, keep getting better everyday.

      First of all, you’re only talking about singles, pickleball will always be a doubles dominated sport.
      Training for pickleball has changed so much in the past couple years as well. So many players can learn about the game and advance so much quicker. Singles has more to do with your racket sports background because of the passing shots. Quang dong is a great player who I know around south la, he has an amazing tennis pedigree and his tennis game is so adaptable for pickleball, therefore his intense training for pickleball, advancements in training and strategies for players looking to become better and having a better racket sports background allowed for him to beat Ben, however that’s singles, you can’t do that shit in doubles.
      Also, everything the guy commenting above me said. Stop being so butt hurt over pickleball, both are beautiful sports, I don’t like Christian’s opinion, but he has a great background for this conversation
      I don’t like people making comparisons so much, pickleball and tennis have so much in common and it’s so much easier for tennis players to transition purely because of the structure of the game and the equipment.
      Also, if tennis players are just so fucking amazing, let’s talk about Sam querrey, he’s been playing pickleball around Thousand Oaks for a minute with wes burrows, why can’t he beat any notable top people in singles? Oh wait he can’t serve the ball overhead. Try and think big picture rather than in a small box.

      @@casey10614 I'm saying Novak would never lose to a player who has only played tennis for a few years, especially not a 17 year old. If Duong can beat Johns after two years of playing PB you don't think Novak or Monfils could do that ? Also didn't Alshon just get smoked by Nadal's former hitting partner ?

    People have to comprehend that Singles Pickleball is similar to Singles Tennis in terms of style of play (majority of shots are top-spin drives whether it's angled or down-the-line); however, the actual pickleball how it moves/bounces is different from a tennis ball, and the size of the courts between both sports are different as well. Although in Pickleball, you'll see more situations where one player will eventually get to the kitchen to gain a positional advantage if the opponent is stuck farther back at the back-court.
    Put a pro singles pickleball match side by side with a pro tennis match, and you'll see the similarities and differences.
    Now.. If we're talking doubles pickleball vs. doubles tennis, the gameplay is significantly different.
    In doubles pickleball, high-level gameplay is seen with all 4 players at the kitchen-line trying to score the point on properly placed and paced shots whether it's the slow-game (which tennis doesn't have) or fast-hands battles (which tennis doesn't also have with 4 players battling it out close to the net).
    Pickleball has dinking, kitchen-volleys, lobs, drives, slices, resets, etc.. There are many shots and angles to acquire an advantage and maintain the game compared to Tennis' lesser amounts of shot options.
    Between Pickleball and Tennis, Pickleball is moreso the one to be called "Physical Chess".

    For someone who claims they wanna promote pickleball, pitting tennis players against you seems pretty counterproductive lmao some of the biggest advocates for pickle I’ve met are tennis players who understand that pickle is a great way for everyday people to get a lot of the benefits of playing tennis without putting in nearly the same amount of work to get to a passable level. Your tweet was stupid and wrong, just own it lol

    Overall, I agree. I believe pickleball requires more strategy and game theory than tennis because there is the additional dynamic of the kitchen. You also have to learn to play the soft game, and have extremely fast reaction times required in hands battles. However, I believe tennis requires more precision and more stamina/endurance. I think tennis players discount the skills required for pickleball because they have such a strong skillset that naturally carries over. And you don't see any pro pickleball players moving over to tennis...

    • @nerdjocky8006
      @nerdjocky8006 9 місяців тому +2

      Horrible take. There have been extensive studies done on game theory and tennis, and the “additional dynamic of the kitchen” does not even come close to match the dynamics of even just serving and returning in tennis. Also you literally contradicted yourself…you acknowledge that the tennis skillset that naturally carries over even on the professional level (Jack Sock) but there are no pro pickle ball players playing tennis lol why do you think that is?? They just can’t turn down the riches and fame that come with pickle?😂

    In my humble opinion: You need to Focus on each point as you play each point and do not worry about or focus on what the score is and everything will take care of itself. You need to stay positive, gun hoe and energetic during each point. Focused on your technique during each point and focus on what you are doing during each point and focus on that point alone and if you make a mistake, learn from that mistake and move on quickly and stop focusing on the score and stop letting the mistakes take you out of the match.

    Actually when tennis pros start to debate eye protection they can make a case about how fast their volleys are vs pickleball. I know Alshon is taking a lot of heat for this, but hand eye coordination and reaction speed is clearly more demanding in pickleball. That does not mean you need to be a better athlete to play pickleball, but it does imply that there are elements of pickleball which are more demanding than tennis.

    In NO way, is pickleball harder than tennis. I've been playing pickleball since February 2024 (I have a tennis background) and I guarantee you I could hang with any pro. May not win but definitely contend. Been playing tennis since I was 5, I'm 33 now, and even in my prime I'd be lucky to win a game against a pro in tennis. The skill gap is MUCH bigger in tennis than in pb.
    Congrats on getting some clout from this, but you are absolutely 100% wrong.
