You're absolutely a savage doing that solo and making it look easy, which it's most definitely not! I love going along via video each week! Thanks from USA Texas
Epic session and another great vid Sam. It been great to watch your solo work flow on big fish evolve into the smooth and professional action we saw today. We'll done mate!
So good Sammy such an accomplishment by yourself the videos don’t give justice to how much effort goes into the last 5mins getting them to the boat. Hope to see you out on the water one day 🎣
The one thing that these youtube video’s can’t bring over is the amount of graft that goes into catching a Marlin.. 15 years ago I was regular crew on a sports fishing outfit with 3 good mates… If they weren’t on the chew it was fine but the days they were you went to bed early.. Doing on your own what a crew of 3-4 would normally do and still feel tired afterwards.. Nuff respect from me Mate! That was “EPIC”
Been in that place many a time every bit of what you went through - all so familiar, loved to see someone else doing it. I fished out of southern Mexico for a decade mostly all solo in a 21' cat with a lot of marlin caught and released. Such a chore, battling them the last bit when you get the wind-on and try to set the rod in the holder and they take off again. And the bill roping, and them biting you when your hand slips too low lol. Keeping them out of the motor... And man, the wild rodeo when you first grab the bill of some of them even though they seem done... I've had to hold on for dear life where fish bigger than me - and I go 6'7" and 100 kilos - slam my arms back and forth against the side of the boat. My PB was probably a 150 kilo blue. Got a pair of 130-140 kilo blacks to the leader and was just impossible to break them out of their fixed pec plane and get them on the surface to pull the hook out. Just kept gliding two meters down out of reach. One went into the motors, next time I wrapped the leader on a cleat to tire it out and it still broke off. Caught at least a dozen striped solo, they were easy as in comparison. Mostly wore shoulder harnesses for them, though think I might have gone to a seat harness for the blacks. I usually got right on the rod that went off and reeled in other lines once I was clipped in to the rod and had my hands free. Always wanted to pitch a kind of Discovery Channel fishing TV show following four or five big game solo fishermen around the world in sort of a friendly competition, but never did while I was doing it. Still think it would be fun if I ever get into a boat and location to do it again. Great job, was fun to watch, brought back so many good memories.
Hahaha yeah mate sounds like you’ve definitely been in the same situation a few times 😂😂 It’s such a battle doing it solo, but always rewarding when you get it done 💪💪
Awesome catch!!! I just caught my first wahoo trolling for my first time solo.. I thought of your solo vids when I hooked up haha had no idea wat how I was getting it in. Thanks for the inspo
Congrats Sammy. Good day in the office. nice to see the life on the ocean “dolphins”.......... pretty sure you had few cold ones after that day. Great video. Regards Jaco
Super epic. Love the lures. Amazing the action you get running only three lines. The minimum I run is five and sometimes seven if I throw out the handlines. Yes, it’s a fire drill sometimes but always exciting. Still a few weeks until my boat is back in action….can’t wait.
Very cool. Like anyone that is good at something- you make it look easy! The amount of decision making needed to land a fish like that solo is huge. Congrats.
Really really nice. I've caught a bunch of them and some they told get a heart attack after such a long fight. Huge sharks eat them also. Long fight. Nice job from The Florida Keys
Hey mate great vid as always, on that 24kg tiagra outfit are you running all mono or just top shotting it. If you are top shotting mono on braid, how are you rigging it?
Hey Sammy can I get a definition of "STREUTH"(spell check)?!?! Its the one Australian slang you use that I haven't really figured out. Been loving the vids for years now so thanks for always putting out consistent, quality content! Cheers🍻
Great stuff Sammy ! Nicely done solo. I am a bit worried about your high speed boat manoeuvres though with regards to going overboard and waving your boat goodbye as it heads to NZ. I know that , above all , you are a safe fisho so how do you ensure that you don`t end up in the drink and what safeguards do you have in place to prevent disaster ?
G’day Ray, Unfortunately not a great deal you can do to avoid ending in the drink apart from being cautious and careful. It’s not feasible to wear the safety cutoff lanyard while moving around the boat. I wear a PFD and PLB around my waist at all times. So I might not have the boat if I fall in but I can float and signal emergency services 👍👍
@@SammyHitzkeFishing Thanks for the reply. Boating can give you the unexpected sometimes and things can go pear-shaped in short order. Happy to see that you take the necessary precautions. Stay safe and keep the videos coming. They are my vicarious successful Sunday fishing trips.
Well done mate legend , Saw a bit of a wound on the first Marlin, did you see it and was it a scuff from the line or perhaps from a cookie cutter ? Hats off to ya
Nice fish man, well done. Have u considered taging , with the amount of palagics u raise and release healthy u could help with some really interesting possible recapture data.
Took up your challenge Sammy. Completed my own triple billfish species solo in my 5.7m boat. Certainly easier if you have an extra hand on board. Got a lot of help from Adam Argyle of Redonkulous game and sports fishing, on how to fish marlin in small boats.
During some slow time commentary it would be interesting if you discussed the risks and safety measures you have in place for solo trolling for large fish, filming, landing and releasing while often the boat is in gear, often is some swell conditions. Thanks
Good fish, good video. In terms of keeping you alive Sammy, do you have a lanyard from you to the kill switch and a nice strong rope tied g=to your harness so you cannot overbalance and be dragged under by a big fish>?
Hey Sammy just wondering if you went out on Saturdays good weather We went out pretty early and we followed Shaun's boat "Mojo" out the seaway that day Great video mate!
Awesome job clearing after hookup! Does being in a smaller boat and not some giant sport fishing rig allow you to kind of reel the boat closer to the fish versus trying to bring the fish to the boat? The only issue I could see is if/when the fish runs at you and you can't get the boat moving. Still, just badassery! Great vid!
Hi I've watched near every episode and enjoyed them immensely The topics are mainly sportsfishing .Yes, there is a bit of snapper and pearly fishing as well but lately it seems to be more of the same . How about something different say Jew fish fishing , the rigs Technic etc. It may not be Blue Marlin but I'm sure alot more fishermen fish for Jew than Marlin ????? Terry
Ah the good old check the lure trick. I like it👌. Hey mate jst a bit of food for thought. Jst read an article on some blokes up ur way slaying Tilapia. Wouldn’t be a bad comp say between u and Whitey. Loser wears a dress on ur next fishing trip😂🎣🍺
That was certainly one fine bluey mate! Hate to upstage ya but got a 330lb big girl last Oct in Cabo and won 1st place in the Black n Blue tournament. But any blue marlin is a milestone! Great work brotha……especially solo! Thats some savage shit Sammy! Congrats once again. People dont realize just how hard it is to hook up and then land a big blue marlin is! Much less solo……you are a legend my friend😎
Hey mate! Appreciate your concern! If you look around my waist I’m actually wearing a inflatable PFD (looks like a bumbag with “marlin” on it) and I also have a Personal Epirb attached to that belt (the yellow phone looking thing). So if I happen to fall in I can float and I can signal for help. The kill switch lanyard isn’t very feasible to wear in this situation unfortunately 🍻🍻
Hay Sammy, I have a question: I have a similar size boat 5.7m and what speed you run those lures at? Ps p: love your channel at its just the type of fishing I do, except castneting, it’s ultimately NSW.
Thanks mate! Glad you’re enjoying by them! I run around about 15kph. I find I need to go a bit quicker then the big boats to get the lures working right 👍

I think that all the time as well. Piloting a boat in a fight is a job in itself and he makes it look so easy. 😅
Not fight a fish 🐟, fighting a Marlin!!
Also from TX and from fishing marlin in parts of the world with a crew, this is SICK! Absolutely agree, total savage and badass!
