  • Ahoy legends, In this weeks episode I make the most of the "good" weather to see if the pelagics are still running hot! Although there is plenty of storms and rain around, that doesn't stop the fish from biting! With the lures in the water at dawn it isn't long before the first reel starts to scream! I hope you enjoy the episode!

@@SammyHitzkeFishing I have been to Australia twice, for 3 weeks in a campervan, my only bit of success was a couple of tailor from the beach, a lot of sharks, and I dont know how many china cod on a boat trip up in Exmouth. I would love to have a go at snapper, jigging or bait, think they are the same family as our sea bream, which put up a great scrap, but the snapper seem about 10 times the size, I wondered about using light gear, but then also wondered what if you got a good one, to be honest Sammy, what I mentioned above would be very good, I would have thought its tricky tying an 80lb leader (Well this is from the man who lost two poppers in Aus casting from the beach because his leader knot caught in his top ring, I have since resorted to tying the braid to a swivel, then a heavier mono after that) But I suppose a lot of people would also be interested in how you tie up your trolling rigs

@@johnfurness2346 the knots you need for general fishing is loop knot, uni knot, FG knot, and you can get heaps more complicated with dead bait rig knots but that's really not required.. I would advise against using dead bait unless you are deep dropping or big game.... Cheers

We're in Central Florida, surrounded by Chains of Lakes. Loving Aussie fishing and gold. We have a premium on Dolphin mostly medium sized to schoolys. One thing I don't see you guys do is to leave your first dolphin, especially smaller ones, on the line in the water. We can often catch the entire school! That's fun. I grew up on a Navy Base in the Philippines, Subic Bay, where the fishing is killer and the reefs are as loaded as yours for spearfishing. I was 12 to 13! Hell yes! Loving that show. sm

One thing to note guys, have a look how Sammy fillets the mahi. If you pay close attention at no point in time does the flesh come in contact with the wet filleting table, its always touching the fish it came off. In my mind thats the sign of a pro fisherman. The level of meticulous care when cutting up the fish is what separates the hacks from the pros, the only thing I'd add is some paper towel at the bottom of the container to catch any moisture. Well done Sammy.

nice vids mate !!! but a notice what i consider mistake so there's some small tips
you decrease your speed to much before clearing your line (decrease to 3-5 knots)
clear your line before fighting the fish, like just let the fish run until you're ready
and then decrease your speed again if needed
i think it'll save you a lot of trouble

    * what speed ranges are you typically trolling at ??
    * Do you ever include hardbodies in the spread e.g. Rapalas ??
    * What are your thoughts on using Teasers
    * When you hook up you seem to briefly increase speed (to set the hooks?) then throttle down to fight the fish but keep pressure on whilst also retrieving your other lines?
    * Can you explain how you like to manoeuvre the boat in relation to the hooked fish please?

      - I usually troll between 15-20kms depending on the lures and conditions
      - yeah I do put hardbodies in from time to time 👍
      - teasers when solo are just another thing to get in the way. They are good if you have some hands on deck
      - Yeah give it some juice after hook up to set the hooks then keep it in gear to keep the pressure on
      - I like to run the boat along side the fish while fighting, but that doesn’t always go to plan 🤣🤣

Not a fan of the skinned Mahi. They're a weird fish. Have a lot of stringy fibrous connective tissue right under the skin and that gets left behind with skinning. For me id rather have it filleted and take the skin off with a knife and leave 1/8th of an inch or so on the skin. Regardless. Fantastic contend and great fish. Cheers mate, appreciate the support!
I’ve actually found that if you cook the fibrous side down on the hot plate it actually breaks it down and you can’t even tell it’s there when eating it 👌👌

So we have to get it straight for yr Pelagics; Blue Marlin, Black Marlin, Striped and Sailfish all in one year challenge. We can’t have you being airy fairy about the dates and cheating on us. When does yr year start, is it Jan 1st? Good luck.
