Thanks for sharing, Seeing things that work and don't work for others saves us who dig in a ton of headaches and hopefully money. You have made that space look much bigger than it's footprint. WELL DONE.
Thank you for posting this. I am buying a house with a 3 car garage (getting only the 3rd bay..boooo...). Your setup has given me some great ideas. Going to do something similar. Just adding a plastic sheet to separate the 2 bay from the single bay garages.
Systainers are probably the worst form of storage for a workshop. Toolboxes are for carrying tools, not storing them. Why? Best storage is clips/racks/shelves etc. One step retrieval- you see it, hand goes on it, you have it. Same for return. Next is drawers. Open, grab, close, three steps. And it keeps the dust etc out, and can be sized to match the items. (Secondary tools and consumables) Next is toolboxes that are not systainer, on sliders. Pull, open, grab, close, push, five steps. (you do not need to engage the latches). Then Systainer- same as toolbox plus lock and unlock, 7 steps, because, unless you leave a lot of space between shelves, the catch fouls the shelf. The last two you add another 2 steps if they are not on drawer slides, because you have to both extract the box and lay it on a surface. 7 or 9 steps. Hard enough to get the tool, in practice it is not put away at once because of all this effort. So clutter. Systainers are quite small. In sysports the volume of storage is less than one third of the space the system takes, and the small box means much of that is wasted. So, slow, inefficient and expensive. Apart from that...
Hey Mike, thanks for the comment. To each is own with how we prefer to “organize “. I’ve had all types of storage solutions throughout my life, and I personally like how Systainers work for me. Are they for everyone? Absolutely not. Do they work for me? Yes. Sure there are much cheaper and faster options, but after years of acquiring Systainers that is how I have chosen to organize my shop.
@@BrianWatersOutdoors That, of course, was very much my point. You have systainers, so you use them. In your kitchen, do you keep your cutlery, crockery and pans in plastic boxes with lids and locking catches? Same for your tinned goods? Thought not- way too inconvenient. The very same applies to your workshop. Does your kitchen look untidy? Bet it is tidier than your workshop. And more efficient. Systainers look pretty, and may impress some, but they are not practical- and surely a workshop should be practical above all else. I am sure I will not convert you- I have learned that everyone will rationalize their choice. One guy said it was 'his showroom' to impress customers (only those who did not realize they were paying for his inefficiency.) There is no limit to the mental gymnastics people will perform to keep doing what they want. However, deep down you know that I am right.
@@jeffstewart6310 Not enough said, by a long chalk. 'I have chosen them, and they work for me' is not an answer to a reasoned argument. If the steps to a conclusion cannot be refuted, then the conclusion has to be accepted. What he is saying (even if he does not realize it) is that his workshop is an art installation and that is more important than it being a functional workshop. That is fine, a free country, but do not claim otherwise. Interesting that Ron Paulk has recently stated that he likes systainers- he immediately puts them on CL to give him a discount on the tools they contained. I am with him!
Brian, thank you for sharing your woodshop! I'm also "living on UA-cam" trying to get great ideas for my single car garage workshop like yours. Really appreciate the time and work you've done. Great job!
Thanks for sharing fellow Texan...My shop has the same issue with the dust collection tubing so I bought some 4 inch HoldRite J hooks which I mounted to my ceiling and ran my 4 inch tubing across the garage and out of the way. Great looking shop I don't think I have ever seen so much Festool in one place besides a store.
That’s a pretty darn good idea John. I’ve actually never thought of that. And even some type of retractable cord to tie to the end of the hose I could just pull down when I need to connect it to my table saw.....hmmmm
@@BrianWatersOutdoors Why not just make another holder like you have at 6:25 on the other side and when you need its available. Just a thought. Good luck
Great shop tour Brian. I love the way you used every spot in the shop in such creative ways. I had a similar issue with hard floor and ended up going with some 36"x10' mats in my high-standing areas and it made a huge difference. Keep making videos my friend!
A beautiful little setup. It is obvious that you love the hobby. The organization and work flow seems well planned and mostly efficient. I am fairly drooling! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. I’ve spent almost 20 years investing in all of my equipment, so it didn’t come fast. Just a new tool here and there, it adds up if you keep them in good condition.
I’m in the same boat as you. Got a single car garage. 10.5ft by 21ft, however I have open rafters for storage so that helps. But I still have to get really creative and videos like this help a lot.
@@BrianWatersOutdoors yes I have 1 complete sheet of plywood on each end for 4x8 storage on each end. Also just have all lights mounted to beams and it makes it easier to run electric for additional outlets.

You've got some good ideas there that I might check into but my shop is 30 by 30 with two cars parked in it also. The best part of my shop according to my wife is that it has a restroom in it. You gave me a great idea, when my Grizzly table saw comes. I'm going to make a rolling cart with my MFT table on top just as you did, but I'll use my MFT table as my table saw extension. If I need the MFT I can take it off the cart and still use it separately and still have storage in the rolling cart.
Thanks for sharing that. Just doing my shop. Most everything i have is on wheels, i had rubber mats down but the wheeled table saw/chopsaw bench rucked the rubber mats. So fitted self adhesive vinyl planks. Only just finished that but at present really happy with them, you have great shop. Cheers
Thanks Simon. I just started today looking for some rubber “gym” tiles just to put in the center of my shop to give some cushion where I stand most of the time. But WOW! didn’t realize how expensive rubber is nowadays. Good luck on your progress
Great use of space Brian, everything in its place. You were commenting about mounting the Festool track on the garage door. I was skeptical about it but I finally caved. I bought the Fastcap holders for the tracks and mounted one horizontally on the garage door and one vertically on the wall. I gotta say they work great and really hold the tracks secure on the garage door or the wall.
man great layout and use of the space! my shop is a 1 1/2 car garage 19x18. you've given me a lot of great ideas especially for all my sustainers. right now I just keep them stacked like a freaking skyscraper on top of my ct26
Very nice set up! Looking for small shop ideas. Leaving my 3 car soon. Like weeks.... Hopefully moving to a place with an acre and a over sized 2 car with a storage building. Maybe a new shop in the future. More prospects. Nice to see that I could do a very small shop. That might happen with the storage building that is there currently.
Brian, your shop looks great and more importantly, looks like it functions well. I'm working out of a single car garage myself, so I know all about the tetris we have to play to have things put away yet still maintain some semblance of a workflow. There's not a whole lot I'd change, though I would add a flip cart for the planer and the OSS under the miter saw. Subscribed. I'd like to see more of what you can come up with. :-)
You need to find a way to get paid for the skill of understatement. This is AMAZING by my standards and the organization is...dream-like. My garage makes me a mean person. How did you plan out the space? In advance? On computer or paper? Did you get a doctorate in granular storage solutions? How'd it go down cuz man, it worked.
Haha. This truly made me laugh! Well done sir. To answer the question though: I had a “basic” idea in my head how I wanted my shop setup and I just built it up as I thought of things. I put my table saw in first before anything and built everything around that too.
Very nice layout. The Festool Table top is OK but you should of used a Kreg top. Much larger and a great set up. I have one Kreg set up like you and another one with the rolling leg kit and that's is really a handy table
you probably dont give a damn but does anyone know a way to get back into an instagram account? I somehow forgot my login password. I love any help you can give me!
@Ibrahim Lionel I really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and I'm trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Fantastic tour. Thank you for sharing. I have a similar sized mechanics tool chest. The only downside that I see about them is the top door. You end up leaving it open or when you do close it you feel like an idiot for the whole upkeep of having to do it. Keeps dust off but whatever. If you replace it you’ll likely end up rebuilding all those drawers anyways.
Les, don’t let this fool you. Most of my stuff used to be kept in Rubbermaid containers and the bags the tools came with. My “collection” has taken many years of me spending too much, and my addiction for organization growing as I get older😜 but thank you for the comment! Stay safe and healthy!
Brian, I live in the subdivision directly to the west of you. It is a funny story of how the dots got connected to know what I was seeing is something that I see quite often. I'd like to meet you sometime. Charlie
Great vid. Love the organization. On the table saw dust collection, what about rotating the impeller 90 degrees CCW and running the 4" hose along the wall over to your saw? You'd have a few extra bends but it would be permanent.
Thanks for the tip. I’ve actually considered doing that, and still might. I just have to figure out the MFT cabinets that are pressed up against the wall that would get in the way of the hose.
What are the dimensions of your cabinets with the shaker style doors? Thanks in advance and I enjoy your videos, especially being a Festool fan myself.
Nice video, Mike. I appreciate your comment about the wobbly MFT table design - sort of amazing to me that all that money gets you a wobbly table, so I really like your honesty and solution. My question is what /how many electrical circuits do you have for your garage - when you run your miter saw, you have four units running: air cleaner, vac, dust collector and saw? Thanks for the tour!
When we built the house I had 8 dedicated 20amp circuits installed the builder thought I was crazy until I explained how many machines were going to be in this garage. Do, a total of 8 20amps, and 3. 15amp
Hey Jerad, those are about to start happening. I’m on a bit of a “break” right now after I finished up a couple of big projects over the last 6-8 months. I decided to use this time to re-organize and get ready for future projects. I know for sure I’ll be making a video on a full size bed with pull out storage drawers....just waiting on my wife to finish up her “idea”
Mint shop. Looking to go from a jobsite to a contractor table saw or even a used cabinet. Couple questions. What size is the shop? Also, I see lots of people place the table saw on the right wall. What made you choose that vs a central location?
Thanks for the kind words. My shop is a “standard” 1 car garage. 20’x 10’. I chose to put the saw on the right wall because I wanted as much space to the left of the blade as I could get. I have a 36” table, so the area I have on the right of the blade has always been more than enough.
Thanks for sharing this, Brian. Also a 1-car-garage-shop guy here, looking for ideas. Am I right, though, that you don’t have a drill press, or a band saw?
Hey John, thanks for the comment. To join my boards I do have a Rigid 6” JP0610 jointer on a rolling base....but he got put into the bigger garage due to my diminishing floor space in here.
Too damned clean and organized. I couldn’t work in your shop, I’d feel like I was violating a church. However, I wish I was as organized as you are. Darlington, South Carolina
Ha! Well, to be honest it didn’t look quite as clean the last 6 months. I just wrapped up a dining room table and a cabinet hutch for my wife I’d been putting off for years. Guess that’s the only good thing about “working” from home right now. But, thanks for the compliment!
What are the dimensions of your outfeed table? I have about 18-20’ to play with and planning a similar layout with my table saw then outfeed table, followed my MFT.
Nice setup. I’m fairly new to this game but am setting up a hobby woodworking space. Does your Mitre station have anti-static built into the extractor system? I’ve heard its something I should definitely consider for safety. I know a lot of people make their own. Just curious regarding your setup. Thanks
Very clean and organized. I also really like the Tanos systainers. They’re pricy but they do work quite well. It gets annoying to have everything in different types of organizers otherwise
You have an awsome shop bro!!! I have that same tickler 4” hose with the connector at the end as well..my question is... How did you get it to fit on your freaky planer? I have the same planer as well but the hose connector is to big for the planer ..it says it’s 4” but I have to take my connector off and plug just the hose in order for it to fit...how do you do it? Thanks
Hey Arturo - so I’m using the Rockler “dust right” 4” hose with their handle attachment and that handle fits on perfectly to the Dewalt planer. So not sure why you might be having an issue? Are you using the Dewalt supplied coupling on the back of the planer?
@@BrianWatersOutdoors yea bro I attached the coupler thing that comes with it..it’s actually for a 4” & one for a shop vac...but my dust right connector is like .25” bigger! Crazy right? Well I’ve been in SanAntonio Texas for the week and there’s a woodcraft store here and I explained the situation to the guy and he hooked me up with an adapter that will work... I’ve been going to that store every day!!! It’s addicting!!LOL...
I recently moved and did not bring my table saw (Rigid) with me. I'm going to end up with a small, one care garage or smaller workshop and am considering an MFT on a workbench and not having a table saw. Having a 24" planer, 24" drum sander, 8" long bed jointer and a miter saw, space is a premium. Did you add a second MFT? Could you cut what you need without a table saw?
Wow very nice shop. it is sooooo clean!!!!! So doesn't everything get dusty when you are working? I have the same tool chest and it gets dust all over it and even in the drawers and its no where near my work area. My 2 questions for you if I may ask are, 1. What type of things are you building? 2. Do you have a Jointer? I am in the middle of reorganizing my shop and my dilemma is that all of the smaller equipment that you have stored away I have on carts. It just swallows up my whole garage. Also, I do a lot of building with sheet goods and wood storage is killing me. Your organization is impressive and inspiring. Thank you for the vide I really enjoyed it.
Hello. I do have a jointer. A Ridgid 6” jointer I keep in the other garage. And, I build everything! Everything from full bedroom furniture sets, dining tables, credenzas, bookcases to simple coasters.
Great shop tour - organization is impressive although an uphill battle for all of us. Nice inspiration! Where do you put sheet goods when they come in?
Thanks Anthony. Sheet goods is difficult. I typically do t keep any spares around and when I do need them I only buy what I need for that specific project. Other option I do have is sometimes I’ll keep the sheets in my bigger carafe where we park our cars.
Very nice shop! LOVE all the Systainers and hope to have as many in about 5 years ... How did you run the hose from the sawstop into the back of the cabinet? Did you use a 45 degree hard elbow or just bent the flex hose? I love my 1.75 PCS also! I like the idea of hanging the Festool TS tracks - I have to find a good location for mine - maybe the garage door!
@@BrianWatersOutdoors thanks! I didn’t know if it would work with a harsh angle. I have run my dust collection across the ceiling in 4” sewer pipe and it works well with a couple of blast gates

@Ibrahim Lionel I really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and I'm trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Ibrahim Lionel it worked and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my ass :D
@Seth Jacob You are welcome =)
Clean and organized shop. I’ll definitely be taking some ideas to improve mine. I have about the same size garage. Good job.
Thank you Joseph. I appreciate it!
This guy definitely screams, “Systainersssssss!!!!!” when he hits the vinegar strokes 😂
🫠🫠
Very nice Brian, you've done a great job to maximize your space
Thank you! Much appreciated!
Very nice shop!!
Thank you
Fantastic tour.
Exactly. I think I’m about to banish mine to my bigger garage
You keep your stuff in sustainers I keep mine in coffee jars 😄. I would be proud to have a such a well organised and equipped workshop.
Les, don’t let this fool you. Most of my stuff used to be kept in Rubbermaid containers and the bags the tools came with. My “collection” has taken many years of me spending too much, and my addiction for organization growing as I get older😜 but thank you for the comment! Stay safe and healthy!
Awesome Shop man!
Thank you!
I like that very nice Shop
Thank you
Nice! Maybe something I missed, but how do you make measured stops with your miter saw setup?
I just use a clamp and a stop block. It’s not a permanent jig, but it works for me
That’s the way a shop should look awesome job
Thank you!
Nice shop. So where did you get the mini festool Systainer the ones next to your tool box on too your bench. Love that set up
Got the mini ones from Axminster tools in UK. THANKS!
How much do you reckon you've spent on festool? AWSOME set up
I reckon too much😉👍🏻
Brian, I live in the subdivision directly to the west of you. It is a funny story of how the dots got connected to know what I was seeing is something that I see quite often. I'd like to meet you sometime. Charlie
Are you serious? Crazy small world! Swing on by anytime
@@BrianWatersOutdoors So noted, I will. I drive a silver Silverado, so if you see me pull up, you'll know who I am.
Thank you. Majority of my uppers are 38”high x 12” wide x 12” deep
Very cool shop.
Thank you Rob
Nice video, Mike. I appreciate your comment about the wobbly MFT table design - sort of amazing to me that all that money gets you a wobbly table, so I really like your honesty and solution. My question is what /how many electrical circuits do you have for your garage - when you run your miter saw, you have four units running: air cleaner, vac, dust collector and saw? Thanks for the tour!
When we built the house I had 8 dedicated 20amp circuits installed the builder thought I was crazy until I explained how many machines were going to be in this garage. Do, a total of 8 20amps, and 3. 15amp
Nice shop. Do you have any videos of you using it to make anything? I scrolled through your videos but didn't see any builds.
Nice shop! Never seen so many shop vacs&dust collectors🤪
It’s terrible, I know. I’d hate to see how many I’d have if it was a bigger shop!
Thanks for sharing this, Brian. Also a 1-car-garage-shop guy here, looking for ideas. Am I right, though, that you don’t have a drill press, or a band saw?
I have a “table top” bandsaw, but no drill press
Nice shop 👌
Thanks👍🏻
You need to see a Fesstool phycologist for some serious analysis.
Absolutely agree
After watching this I’m going to rearrange! Thanks for sharing. What is the dimension of your shop?
12’ x 22’
Where did you get your mats?
I ordered the tiles from racedeck.com
@@BrianWatersOutdoors thanks
Very nice. Well organized. Look forward to seeing some projects. How do you handle jointing your wood. Thanks
Hey John, thanks for the comment. To join my boards I do have a Rigid 6” JP0610 jointer on a rolling base....but he got put into the bigger garage due to my diminishing floor space in here.
Great looking space man. How deep is your miter station from front to back?
Thank you. The two side cabinets on either side of my miter saw are 23” deep
Nice job, very tidy.
Thanks Ian, appreciate the comment!
Nice shop man! Just subscribed
Thank you Austin. Sure do appreciate the support
What are the dimensions of your outfeed table? I have about 18-20’ to play with and planning a similar layout with my table saw then outfeed table, followed my MFT.
The outfeed table is approx 76” wide x 36” deep x 34” tall
Nice setup. I’m fairly new to this game but am setting up a hobby woodworking space. Does your Mitre station have anti-static built into the extractor system? I’ve heard its something I should definitely consider for safety. I know a lot of people make their own. Just curious regarding your setup. Thanks
The hose is anti static if that is what you mean?
Very clean and organized. I also really like the Tanos systainers. They’re pricy but they do work quite well. It gets annoying to have everything in different types of organizers otherwise
I agree....obviously. Thanks for the comment!
@@arturofuentes3793 glad you got it sorted out! I have to put blinders on when I go into Woodcraft or I get in trouble! Like my wife going to Target!
Nice workshop, I am doing mine and have been forever. Can I ask what is the size of your shop in meters ( or feet) thanks
Thanks! It’s a “standard” single car garage, so approx 22’ x 12’
I did add a 2nd MFT. Honestly for me it would be hard without my table saw. It’s my most used tool in the shop
You really shouldn’t block your electric panel.
It’s not blocked. I can access both panels easily. That rail folds down flat
@@BrianWatersOutdoors but it’s not approved by Osha to have anything in front of electric panels taking you more time to get to them.
Good morning. Congratulations for your beautiful organization. How big is your lab? thank you and have a good day
Thank you. This shop measures appprox 12’ x 21’
@@BrianWatersOutdoors thank you🥰🥰🥰
Wow very nice shop. it is sooooo clean!!!!!
I bought a 4” Rockler Dust Right 45 deg adapter. Works great for my application
@@BrianWatersOutdoors thanks! I didn’t know if it would work with a harsh angle. I have run my dust collection across the ceiling in 4” sewer pipe and it works well with a couple of blast gates
@@adrianabshire it’s not a hard 45, but a rounded 45. Inside diameter is smooth.
Great shop
Thank you sir
