Synopsis: A successful lawyer's entire career is built on the basis of lies. His life takes an ugly turn when his son wishes for him to not lie for a day and his wish comes true.
This movie would really not be much without Jim Carrey. He is so hilarious!
Facts
The Mask and Ace Ventura are a MUST. And if you want to see a different Jim Carrey, watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It's a wonderful, heartwarming mind-fuck of a film and you get to see how versatile his acting ability really is.
Yes man is also a good one but all of these are amazing and indeed a must watch for seb
CUBAN PETE!!!
definitely agree with both of these. Ace Ventura still makes me laugh as much now as it did when I was a kid.
The Number 23 is amazing as well. Between that and Eternal Sunshine, you get to see a ton of range for him.
@@PHSDM104 I’m the crazed Dominican freak
@@signergirl1 When play the maracas, I go chick chicky boom chick chicky boom.
Your simultaneous "HOLY HELL" with Jim Carrey had me literally snort-laughing so much that my wife was wondering what was wrong with me 😂
“But you’re the only one who makes me feel bad!” That line is like a dagger to the heart. I don’t have kids but I would absolutely hate myself if my child said that to me 😢
Outtakes at the end of funny movies was relatively common in movies when I was growing up the 90s/early 2000s. When an animated movie like Toy Story went the extra mile to *animate bloopers* it was really a treat.
“But my teacher says that real beauty is on the inside.” “That’s just what ugly peoples say!” Hilarious 😂😂
I think about that line far too often haha
@@jillmayer9501 me too!
the "a goose!" line got me so out of left field I legit cried of laughter...
I still remember when my oldest was still small enough to be in the back of the shopping cart at Walmart. There was a sale paper in there with her and she suddenly picked it up and began wadding it. I watched, a bit puzzled, and then she pitched it forward and said, "A goose!" I almost died! 🤣
I love this movie. Taught me from a young age that lying to others is easy but then you start to lie to yourself about who you are. Only when he was given this gift to be honest with himself did he become a better person.
My favorite line Jim Carrey says in this movie is "I'm kicking my ass do ya mind"
Same!
@@betteryourlife865 😆 🤣 😂
This was around that time in the 90's when Jim Carrey was at the top of his game. He was the funniest man on the planet and everything he did was gold.
As a divorced dad fighting for custody of the brightest stars in my sky, my amazing daughters , this hits hard! When u divorce and suddenly have time where your kids aren’t with you you understand instantly how incredibly much you miss them every second their away, now fighting for as much time as possible with my daughters. If you have kids and are married, don’t EVER take for granted thst you get to see them all the time because they grow up SO fast! 💜
Keep it light mate!
I hope you won
This and Mrs Doubtfire are my comfort movies.
My favorite scene has got to be. "The color of the pen is Reeeee!"
The bloopers are hilarious 😂
The older I get, the more I think Jerry really didn't deserve this.
He's a genuinely good guy, who really tries hard to make things work.
He deserves better than Audrey.
@vt_sandman He's not really a villain, but the boring new boyfriend. The reality is that being really nice can be quite boring. She liked the idea of him, but didn't find herself all that attracted to him.
@vt_sandman Also, like all happily ever afters, we only see a brief glance of "reformed" Fletcher. He's been a horrible husband, father and person for a long, long time. It's a fun movie, but like @heavycritic9554, the more years that passed since I first watched this, the more I grew really dissatisfied with the general formula - which is really more a fault of the general formula than this specific movie, but it's definitely interesting to sit down and really dig into some of the stuff we grew up with and really think about the lessons we were taking away from it.
Yeah, I kind of would’ve preferred the movie if they did what Miss Doubtfire did, and end the movie without Fletcher and Audrey getting back together, but Fletcher, promising that he’ll be in his son’s life more, maybe even Audrey deciding on staying in LA. It would work to show:
1. That Audrey will be fine without Fletcher, and won’t be taking advantage of.
2. Fit with the more cynical tone in the movie. As it was Fletcher‘s own actions that caused a family with a good father to be destroyed. Therefore, he realizes that he is indeed a bad father, and that this may be the best action to just only have visitation with his son. However, Fletcher promises to try and not lie as much anymore and stop representing criminals and lowlifes.
@vt_sandman3392 he’s not the villain he’s just a push over
@@cobra7282 lol “being really nice can be boring” yeah sure keep believing that until someone hurts you and then you’ll say “why aren’t there any good people in the world” 🤦♂️
His birthday was yesterday night at 8:15pm so he has till 8:15 pm that night, 24 hour curse i guess😂😂.
"over-actor!" is my favorite outtake
"Yes man" is in the same vein. VERY well done.
If you're a lawyer who knows your client is guilty, the code of ethics means you're OBLIGATED to tell the presiding judge not only THAT you know, but HOW you know, failure to do so results in your disbarment.
In theory, you mean.
@@andreduarte8372 Law it self is in theory way people should behave in society. Law tries to capture spirit of Justice, often failing because of us human beings. In theory every human knows how to behave... in practise they don´t.
Not sure what country you’re in, but in the United States that’s not even remotely true. In fact if your client tells you they’re guilty and you tell the judge, you’ll be disbarred for breaking confidentiality and privilege. The only obligation a lawyer with a guilty client has is they can’t knowingly allow their client to lie under oath (but that doesn’t come up often because, except for rare circumstances, it’s incredibly stupid to put a criminal defendant on the stand).
@@JDJase Your statement is false. While a private lawyer may be dishonest or lie in court while representing a client, if the court or any public lawyer (state attorney) finds out about this dishonesty they are REQUIRED to charge them with Perjury and Attorney Misconduct. REQUIRED. This places a huge burden of truth on all lawyers. Most state when you meet them to only tell them information they can share in a court room. They are not your therapist.
@@joshuacoldwater You’re bringing up an issue which I didn’t address, so not sure what statement is “false”. No, a lawyer cannot lie in court, as that is a violation of your oath as an officer of the court and will get you disbarred (but not charged with perjury because a lawyer is not under oath and any statements of fact from a lawyer are not material). A lawyer also cannot ask a question to which they know the answer is a lie - as I stated in my comment (and is one, but not the only, reason letting a criminal defendant testify is a bad idea [aside: even 100% innocent defendants should not testify, most of the time]). Again, statements of facts by a lawyer in court are not material because the lawyer does not have first hand knowledge of the fact, hence why witnesses are required (and if the lawyer does have first hand knowledge, eg. they witnessed the crime, they may have a conflict and be unable to represent you anymore). As for the “only tell your lawyer what they can say in court, he’s not your therapist” issue, not only have I never met a lawyer with that philosophy in my 15 years of practice, it literally goes against the entire point of Privilege - meaning that not only is a lawyer LEGALLY BARRED from disclosing this information, they are legally protected from being compelled by the court to disclose (with very few strict exceptions in exigent circumstances). Privilege rules very specifically exist so that a client can feel comfortable telling their attorney information in order for the attorney to provide the best representation possible. Your lawyer wants important information without having to wait to find out from the prosecution witnesses.
I only just realised Jim Carrey was drinking water to the point he actually needed to pee as he couldn't lie and say he needed the toilet if it wasn't true! So he needed to acutely need to pee to leave the courtroom 🤯
Meant actually, but acutely sounds good
Your face when the stepdad did the claw is the best thing I've ever seen in my life. You're so damn cute
The face Seb made when the guy tried imitating the claw. lmao
For the step dad guy, you should really watch The Princess Bride and Robin Hood Men In Tights. It'll change your view on the actor and tbh you'll probably not be able to see him like this goofball the same way.
The worst when someone says, _"We need to talk... tonight, I'll call you."_ Uh, uh, right now! 😄
You should Check out "Yes man", and "Cable guy", two of my favorite Jim Carrey movies
you missed the “Thanks son!” to jerry 😂😂😂 that part always cracks me up
This movie is so hilarious and will always be one of my favorite jim Carrey movies. Such a classic. 👌🏼
There is actually an amazing movie about what if people were unable to lie. "The Invention of Lying"
The guy asks her to marry her and move to Boston after being together for only 7 months, that's wayyyyy too soon.
It feels more out of spite
@@punklover99 so why did he stay when Max wanted to? Get a grip!
@@TheRedPeril she said yes(kinda) because she was being nice. She decided to move to Boston because Fletcher flaked again. That's the spite, Jerry saying they didn't have to move was also him being nice. And that Jerry and Audrey were breaking up
I asked my wife to marry me on our 3rd date. 7 days after we met. We got married 5 months later.
How? People get married in even shorter amounts of time
you want another Jim carrey masterpiece I recommend the Mask an iconic film that's incredibley funny and memorable you'll really enjoy it
Dude I can’t believe you reacted to this. This is such an awesome and somewhat forgotten comedy.
Comedies like this just don’t exist anymore 😢
Oil and rubber band makes the leather in the glove more flexible.
Jennifer Tilly played on the movie Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky 😂
My favorite Jim Carrey movie, I had a broken family and this really hits home.
Had??
He can't ask a question when he knows it's a lie
Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind or The Truman Show are GREAT Jim Carrey movies! He plays a serious role in both, but they are my favorites!
The oil and rubber band is for softening and shaping the baseball glove
I always feel like the director just told Jim to have fun, this is the basic idea. He also plays a camio as Fire Marshall Bill in the end when Fletcher is layed out after flying off the plane
ive been watching you synching up with Jim's HOLY HELLLL on a loop now
2 of his movies that are not comedies but brilliant are The Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and The Number 23. It will illustrate the kind of range he has.
11:17 holy shit the sync lmao
"Just don't make me watch a Chris Evens movie on that day." Lmao
This film is hilarious and it's very clever the premise and the story oh and the plane scene in the crowd you can see Jim as a fireman in the background it's very funny
Please consider The Cable Guy starring Jim Carrey and directed by Ben Stiller. It an underrated psychological comedy.
Damn this was one of my fav films as a kid/teen lol its so funny and holds up today ^^ love Jim Carrey comedy
My mom got this move from Blockbuster when I was a kid and what a banger. It's one of these movies you can watch over an over, during lunch, while waiting for something or at any moment.
@4:15 Seb baseball gloves are pretty stiff when new. A good glove would be made of leather and need to be broken in. I used to oil my glove, put a baseball in it to develop a good pocket, wrap a rubber band around it then put it under my mattress and sleep on it to help soften the leather. Nothing as nice as a properly broken in glove for a kid.
You know it’s a good movie when your face hurts by the end of it 😂
The Truman Show. Amazing movie, one of my favorites. I also liked The Majestic when I saw it, but it's been years so I dunno how good it really was.
I forget baseball isnt popular in the UK lol so you dont know about Baseball, but you oil the glove to break it in and prevent cracks & you rubberband alone the crease so it can fold correctly
Rubber band: fold the glove & wrap a band around it...or place a baseball then wrap glove & rubber band around...
Breaks in the glove so won't be so stiff
@4:20 baseball gloves can be super uncomfortable until they're broken in. There are tons of short cuts and tricks, this is one of them
He described himself 6'2 180lbs big teeth kinda gangly 😂😂😂
Classic. It was a banger when it came out. Worked my first job at a movie theater 96-97. This movie played a long time in the theater. Shout to non existent Cobb Kendall 9 in Miami. RIP
I watched this movie as a kid and to this day I still quote
"THE PEN IS BLUUUUE"
"a GOOSE!"
"I'm kiiiickin my ass, DO YA MIND??"
I mean Jim has basically retired at this point because of his mental health and I’m sure performances like this have burned him out over the years.
I have been waiting for this when I saw it on the community section of the channel
The way he coincidentally timed those two lines was hilarious
funny thing about the end is one of his characters he plays in comedy is in the crowd dressed up as a fireman.
I think that the guy Jerry plays on The princess Bride, i think 🤔
Yes that's cary elwes.
@@Themandalorian935 oh ok I thought so I wasn't too sure, tyvm for your help 😊
And Robin Hood : Men in Tights. He's terrific in medieval spoofs.
ahhh i love this film. it always stuck with me because as a kid my dad was never around and used to lie a lot and let me down, but it made me hopeful they'd get back together and things might change. at the end of the film my mum would chase me and my sister with 'the claw' and made me forget all about it lol. classic from my childhood and one of my faves from jim carrey! had a lot of fun watching this one!!
Frickin love this movie! Jim Carey owned this one 😂
11:18 That's got to be the most one in a lifetime JINX 😂😂😆🤟🤟🤟
'Can you imagine you're a lawyer for a guy you know has done it?'
That used to fascinate me so I read up on it one day. Defense Lawyers aren't always there to prove their client is innocent, they're there as a burden of proof to the prosecution. Their job is to make sure that every single viable explanation of why that person MIGHT be innocent is looked at, to make sure that someone isn't being put away that didn't do the crime. So they'll ask every type of question, present every type of evidence in defence of their client to make sure that the burden of proof is met and the person is in fact guilty.
I love Maura Tierney! She's Abby from “ER,” my favorite TV series! She played Dr. Abby Lockhart, who struggled with alcoholism. She got sobered but then relapsed and got sober again. I wish I could fight my alcoholism 😪
Should definitely watch Yes Man after seeing this. Loosely familiar feel to it.
To see a completely different side of Jim Carrey, I fully recommend Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. His co-Star is Kate Winslet, and Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood, David Cross…truly beautiful movie that I hope you’ll give a chance.
This is my favorite Jim Carrey movie 🍿 he was freaking hilarious 😆
Use to watch this film so much as a kid
you put oil and a rubber band around the glove to break it in and make it more flexibile
I love the movies DUMB and dumber with Jim Carrey and The Mask
I love this film there’s another one with him in Me Myself and Irene and Ace Ventura that’s a good one
11:16 How are there not more comments about the simultaneous “Holy hell!” 😂
Maaaaaaan, i swear jim carrey was the god of comedy back then
That kid plays on Home Alone 3
please!! Watch the cable guy its one of my favourite jim carrey film!!! And very! Under appreciated
As someone with Big boobs. It's not a compliment
That's all I'm gonna say
THE MASK🔥It even has Cameron diaz🔥🔥
Watch "Yes Man" next, it's just as hilarious and has a similar premise!
if you read the books i suggest watching jim as count olaf in lemony snicket a series of unfortunate events
I like that you said "they get hurt" when it came to the Pro Wrestling reference. Not only do they get hurt, but a lot of people would argue it's one of the most brutal forms of entertainment, fake or not. Pro Wrestling might not be real, but they put themselves through absolute hell. Brock Lesnar has said many times that nothing beats the brutality of the pro wrestling lifestyle, and he has been through a lot of different "legit" sports on a professional level. So, if he is saying how brutal it is, I can only imagine.
@3.35 looks like Seb’s writing
I think you would love "Me, Myself and Irene" Jim Carrey in it. It's also hilarious!
I pray that you never leave YT
your reactionto this movie is one of the best
24:00 that face you made. Lol. We were Twinsies. 😂
One of my favorite movies growing up in the 90's
Crossing my fingers, you let this play through to the end for the outtakes😆
You should watch Yes Man i think you will like it 😊 it’s quite similar to this
This was one of his best!
I used to watch this movie so much as a kid
New baseball gloves are stiff when they're new, so you oil them up and wrap them in a rubber band to soften the leather and help break them in.
Me, Myself and Irene is still his funniest movie in my opinion.
I like how the most replayed part of this video is the elevator scene with Krista Allen
I always lose it at the Thanksgiving turkey 😂😂😂
I don't think I've ever heard somebody say they wanted to knock Jerry out. Sure, he's a dork but he's a good man!
It’s surprising that he didn’t use double speak considering he’s a lawyer 😂😂
22:00 that clap morphed into something weird lol
I was expecting Seb to make a comment about hit the runway isn’t infinite since he wrecked lol.
When I was a paramedic I wouldn’t have made it through one shift if I absolutely couldn’t lie about anything
