    Bloody hell, Neil! I was trying to find crash pants for dry slope snowboarding and came across your video. Most useful I've seen, so thanks for that mate.

    I wear them for pure bowl days and I have been wearing them as I learn Downhill as well.
    I also have a set of RHip Clhips. Hip pads that slide down your hip where you want them and clip them to your pants or belt. I use them for street skating so if I hit a ledge on the way down I have some protection. It is like. A shoe insoles for your hip.

      Cool 👍🏻 another friend mentioned the Rhip Clhips too, they look like a nice idea but I like the ass and thigh protection of the shorts, a few times recently I’ve hit those spots.

    I've used the BodyProx for over a year. They were very inexpensive so I anticipated quality issues but I liked the padding placement /coverage. Pleasantly surprised that there WERE NO QUALITY issues. Very durable and I have no seam separation or deformity of the elastic waistband. I also use them every single session- and they are so breathable that I don't know I have them on. I'm in Florida, USA and so far don't get excessive swamp ass from using these in the summer. Especially if you load up the skivvies with baby powder or Gold Bond. Great video, Neil! I especially like when folks take a moment to focus on safety. Safety first!

      Thats great to hear, its very interesting that we've independently happened across the same ones with positive experiences. I'm also very impressed with the quality, comfort and breathability, I dont even need to wash them very often as they dont seem to hold the sweat or expected resulting smell which i guess is what you mean by "swamp ass" 🤣 Florida certainly has the right climate to test that to the extreme! As an older-ish skater i feel like we have to get all the right saftey gear because it takes so long to heal from injury and i dont want to be held up from progressing in the time I have left. 👊

    I’ve been wearing the body prox shorts for about two years. They work well. I ended up trimming the tailbone piece some because it seemed a little long. Also, in the summer I got a few sore spots wear the plastic pads were rubbing on my lower thighs when sweating. I fixed this by wearing under armor compression shorts under them.

      That’s cool they are working out for you too 👍🏻 I haven’t noticed the tail bone piece being too long but I’ll take a look now you mention it. I’m not sure what plastic piece you mean as mine don’t seem to have any plastic but I always wear long legged Lycra sports underwear underneath mine anyway as it seems to reduce the sweating feeling.

      The open spots/holes on the inside where they insert the pads through. Those areas can rub if you don’t have a long enough under garment.

      Cool thanks, I’m happy with these bodyprox ones and I think they will last a long time but when I time comes to replace them I’ll have a look 👍🏻

    The trouble with using skate & snow protection skating is they are too hot. Too warm for winter and totally unwearable in summer here. (43 degrees celsius today.) I stopped wearing my bodyprox within a week of buying them and made my own using one size too big shorts & sewing in CE motorcycle pads to protect my hips & tailbone. Much cooler.

      I agree they make you sweat and i mentioned this in the video, but I sweat like crazy when i'm skating anyway so it makes no big difference for me, I still wore them Skating in Brazil in 40 degree heat too but lukily it doesnt reach that kind of temperature in the UK and most of the year its below 15 degrees. Thats cool that you made your own, i'm all for doing whatever it takes to protect yourself but most people need an off the shelf product and these are the best i've found so far.

    I have a bike short they have a hard pad on the side but nothing for the tail bone but they are less bulky. Do you wear something to protect legs or ankles ?

    • @NeilHesterSkateboarding
      @NeilHesterSkateboarding  6 місяців тому

      I wear knee pads and high top shoes for any skating where I think I will bash my ankles which does me pretty well.

      I agree with Neil on the high top shoe tip. I can't fathom rocking lows or even mid. My Achilles would be toast. I wear a cheap set of these- JBM Knee Brace Soft Non Slip Knee Pads Breathable Knee Compression for Fitness Exercise Basketball Running (One pair, Black) after injuring my patella last year - just for extra padding under my 187. I like to slide these down low if I'm starting to take hits to the shins. Double duty from something inexpensive.

      @@friscotecsk8s119 👍I wear lows for vert skating because the chances of bashing my ankle are much lower in my experiance (I'd wear hightops if i could find some with the same kind of midsole impact and toe protection of the DC's i use but ive not so far) and i only tend to bash my ankles trying lip tricks like front side rock n rolls on mini ramps. I did smash my shin really badly recently with a full bodyweight fall onto it from a slipped out 5050 on the vert pool coping and took a dive headfirst down into the bottom (check out my shorts for a clip) which put a huge dent in my shin but no hightops, high socks or knee sleeves would have prevented that so there's always going to be some possibility of injury.
      For a couple of weeks afterwards i couldnt even touch my shin without pain so i wore some football (soccer) shin pads under long tousers while it healed which helped prevent any further damage. I used to wear them when street skating in my youth which really helped protect against the ineviditible shin bash from trying flip tricks. I also wear knee sleves under my knee pads to stop them slipping out of place when sliding on grippy concrete which I'll make a video about soon too.
      Always good to hear what other people do to work around protection issues they come up against, thanks for checking in 👊
