At 02:31 you mention the River Leven and it's counterpart in Fife.
Now, the Leven in Fife drains Loch Leven which is watched over by the Lomonds, East & West (aka the Paps o' Fife).
The Leven in Dunbartonshire drains Loch Lomond (formerly Loch Leven) which is watched over by Ben Lomond.
Your challenge is to find a link between Leven & Lomond.

Ha ha, thanks. Need to give that some thought!

Very carefully pronounced. Most people I know just say it Bollock. The visitor centre is the former station building.

Thanks for introducing me to an area I have no knowledge of at all. Coming from Inverness, if we head down the road we tend to just go to Glasgow city centre and hardly ever venture out.

What a lovely area. I can understand that this is a place I must visit. Directly flight Bergen-Edinburgh, train to Glasgow and another train, that’s not too hard of a journey 😊 Cheers! That beer looked nice 😅

Beautiful! How far did you walk that day?!

    • @RogEdwardsTV
      @RogEdwardsTV  3 місяці тому +1

It’s quite a compact area, Betsy. But because you have to go back into the village to cross the bridge it does add up. My FitBit says I walked about 7 miles - but I do go backwards and forwards a bit doing different shots! 😀

Haven't been in that area since I worked in nearby Luss 45 years ago on the STV production
    Take The High Road.

Welcome back Roger, hope fully recovered! Thanks for this. Haven't been to Loch Lomond for so long! Thanks for wander around Balloch. Here's hoping the "Maid of the Loch" will sail again. I remember in the late 60's, sailing on it. Great vlog as always! 😊 👍

Thanks Alan. Amazing that you went on the Paddle Steamer back in the day. Such a shame they let it go.

@RogEdwardsTV Yes was a school trip, and we got off at Rowardennan. The Maid sailed on the Loch between 1953-81. We used to holiday, "Doon the watter", in the '60's, & the paddlers were my favourites!

My village! Yes, Scotrail makes sure we always have the worst trains on the network. I worked in the Visitor Centre for a few years, it was a great job. It's actually located in the old station building because until the very late 80s the railway line went all the way down to the pier. When they closed that station they decide to move Balloch station to get rid of the level crossing. There used to be a signal box next to the station building too. There's a great wee coffee place you missed right at the pier, they only have outdoor seating but on a sunny day it's the best place to sit! Yeah I don't think anyone local likes the main building at Lomond Shores very much. When it was getting built its nickname was Chernobyl. It was never originally meant to be a sealife centre - when it first opened it was a visitor centre that had next to nothing in it. So understandably it got very few visitors, and they ended up selling it to the sealife centre company. The state of the castle is a disgrace. Until about 15 years ago it was open and in use as a museum and gift shop. Prior to that it was also a conference centre. Its owned by Glasgow City Council, but leased to West Dunbartonshire Council who seem to have decided to let it rot, but there are a couple of local interest groups that are trying to change the castle's fortunes. The garden next to the Castle is called the Chinese Garden, though there's nothing much Chinese about it these days. It's still nice to wander round though. The Walled Garden is a hidden gem - even on busy days it tends to be quiet. Unlike the castle it's had a lot of work done to it to restore it. There are some amazing walks near the village too, like Stoneymollan (very steep), Whinny Hill, and further out at Gartocharn there's the Dumpling and the RSPB reserve. Also, there's at least 3 river levens - the third one is at Kinlochleven!

Sue, thanks so much for all that information which is really interesting. I hope the castle gets restored. I was very taken with the Walled Garden. It felt very private. Looking back they should have kept the railway line all the way to the pier. Thanks again for watching. 😀

Hi Roger.... been there quite a few times when I lived in Glasgow.... it is quite a Gem whilst on the train from Glasgow there is this mysterious factory on top of a hill and my mind boggles every time I see it.
    Great work Roger.
