  • Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren) is an utterly beautiful anime. It is so refreshing to finally have something other than a slice of life be featured on the channel, but also have a fantasy anime which isn't also an isekai. Literally, one of the best anime I've seen this year.

    Corrupt Priest was just a joking nickname for Heiter because he drank so much and was nonchalant and seemingly carefree about his duties as priest. Heiter means cheerful, bright, or happy in German. He wasn't actually corrupt, it was just the way he carried himself that earned him the nickname.

      Also Corrupt Priest is a frequent joke name for Buddhist priests in Japan because of their historical actions fighting the government in the past and having illicit affairs and such.

    I think a good way for Christians (though I am not one), is to view magic in fiction as a biological function rather than a supernatural function. A skill born from inherent capabilities they were blessed with at birth. They did not call to the devil when they casted the magic, and the people who had holy magic are greatly respected for their ability to bring miracles.
    Think of a world where God gave all humans a gift, such as real life where we are born with talents and potential. All one has to do is stretch the scope of God's blessing to a fictional attribution.
    Think of their affinity to magic (at least the non-demon magic) to be born from God's will that they be born with the gifts to wield it powerfully. And take note of the fact that demons in this anime spend their whole lives training one specific magic, yet end up trumped by the inherent God given talents (that were supported and trained) that the non-demons fought them with.

    Elves in this universe have expected lifespan from 6-10 thousand years. Imagine if they did exists irl. They would watch the construction of the first pyramids to its destruction and to its rediscovery by modern archeologist in a single lifespan. For them WWII is basically yesterday's event. That's wow.... No wonder Frieren has such trouble to understand humans. It's like us trying to understand the life of a mouse.

    • @HousecoatHero

      That's one of the reasons I appreciate this show. There are a lot of elves in the media that are depicted with these long lifespans, but I think frieren is the only one that has used it as a major theme for character development instead of just a footnote for why the character is "cold"

    You should keep in mind that this manga is from Japan were christianity is only fairly recently implented and is not a part of the culture at all. While the author took obvious inspiration from christianity to build his world, he probably made it exactly in the same way western author use various mythologies in their work to serve their world building. Don't excpect a Christioan story, you will be wildly disapointed. The christian subtext is here to enhanced the theme around time and immortatlity. We already know that ancient heroes became story that have few things to do with their real accomplishements and story.
    Soilers !!!!
    It is fairly plausible we discover later in the manga that the Goddess is not a divine being but an elf (or some unknown species) so ancient and powerful she developped a time travel magic to come back in time or something similar as well as a spell to share her power with others. There is a lot of clues here and there suggesting there is more to this story (in particular that elves and dwarves doesn't believe in her to begin with, saying her cult appeared at some point in history, which is weird if she is supposed to be the creator of this world).
    I hope you will be able to still enjoy the show even if it is not what you think it is.

  • @jlawsl
    @jlawsl 5 місяців тому +3

    I think the part where she finally meets the other elf, who is possibly many times older is asked if he knows who she is. The others are in wonderment at how he doesn't know who she is and state that she defeated the demon lord. Then he states that she must have lived for over 1,000 years or more before that, what did she do in that time. Also, that she was still young and had a lot to learn. So it also put her into perspective of others. While she likes to seem like she has done everything and accomplished something, one cannot live on a single good deed and there is always someone older and more wise.

    Callin it a "christian" anime is very strange to me.
    If you're claiming that it holds values similar to certain christian ideals then sure, but you'd also have to throw in a VAST amount of fiction I know a lot of christians wouldn't go near with a 10 foot pole.
    It would be just as unproductive as calling moral atheists christians in disguise or something.
    You didn't mention it in the video, but it seems very likely that the fact the clergy for this universe's religion show up quite a bit, and that the premise of the show deals with uncovering parts of the devine. But I would like to remind you that the religion practiced in the show is very much not christianity.
    Ive heard others speak of how it's a "christian anime" because it holds "christian symbolism" within. Which I find rather redicilous tbh.
    The show (much like many other modern fantasy stories) is obviously centered around "the hero's party" much like thousands of rpg's and roleplaying gameslike dnd. It is not uncommon at ALL to include divinity in a fantasy story, and I would not consider that making any of those examples those "christian" to any extent. There's thousands of religions across the world, and while this anime takes most of its inspiration from europe, a place where christianity has been the prodominant religion among believing households, and thus obviously takes most of its religious inspiration from it, it does not make it christian in any sense of the word.
    I'm not entirely sure what point you're trying to get across with this video. Cause it seems like you pointed out just a bunch of good things about the show and called it christian.
    I don't really see a logical throughline from one to the other I guess.
    And why chistian? Why not Jewish? Or any other religion for that matter.

    Sorry, but Sousou no Frieren is not a christian series, because there's propaganda of evolutionism contained in it.
    I too was having the impression that overall the manga is very christian, but I changed my mind and dropped it after reading chapter 88, in which evolutionism (which is the lie promoted especially by marxists as a means to make people cease to recognize what is written in the book of Genesis as the truth of the origin of the world and humanity, then disregard Christianity, and then begin to find the absurds of communism more acceptable) is portrayed as if it were the truth.
    And there are more bad things promoted in this series, such as cremation of corpses, and also the idea that demons do evil things not for having evil intentions against humans, but for having good intentions and not being able to understand what an evil intention is, being such inability of comprehension supposedly caused by how the demons evolved. So clearly the author has a materialistic view of morality, as he thinks that some intelligent living beings do good or evil things as a result of genetic factors and not spiritual, and he doesn't understand that having the intention of doing something that is objetively evil is intrinsically an evil intention regardless of whether or not the individual with the intention is aware of how evil doing such thing is.

    • @ChristianAnimePodcast
      @ChristianAnimePodcast  6 місяців тому +10

      On the issue of the demons, I'm not sure how you've come to that conclusion but the demons definitely do evil things for the sake of doing evil things, and even when having the option to do good, they refuse to do it. I don't think it's a result of genetics, considering that the humans are also capable of doing evil things.
      In regard to evolution, you should already be aware that it should be treated as a secondary, non-salvation issue for which I won't engage any further in.

      As an adult, you should understand the difference between propaganda and portrayal. It makes no sense to expect or even wish for evolution to be absent from a story told by a person who lives in a world where evolution is largely regarded as fact. There is no merit to casting aside a story that has genuine value in its core themes for those reasons.

    • @kauekodama3234
      @kauekodama3234 6 місяців тому +2

      @@reijishian2593 As an adult, you should understand that by portraying a terribly dangerous lie such as evolutionism as if it were true in his work of fiction, the author is automatically making propaganda of evolutionism.
      In most manga and anime series evolutionism is not mentioned as something that is true, so what you wrote there made no sense.
      The japanese people live in exactly the same world as the one in which we live, and there are lots of japanese people who recognize the fact that evolutionism is false. They have plenty of access to the truth, unlike the north koreans for example, so there's no reason whatsoever not to expect them to have already learned it.
      Of course it makes sense to expect everyone to learn the truth, and not to agree with a dangerous lie such as evolutionism being portrayed in a work of fiction, which destroys the intelligence of the readers and leads them to become atheists.
      The excuse you're making is really dishonest, and it's easy to imagine one saying basically the same thing to try to justify a western fictional work in which gender ideology is portrayed as the truth, since it's being largely regarded as a fact.
      You should never make the mistake of seeing some terribly wrong thing as more acceptable just because it's being commonly thought to be true. That's what results in people ending up accepting more and more evil and then corrupting themselves. Even if everyone in the world begins to believe that a man can be a woman, that won't change the fact that it's terribly wrong to promote such idea, and the same goes for evolutionism.
