I can't _believe_ anyone actually took a nineteen eighties video camera (those things were the size of a small suitcase) to Donington and managed to get through it without the thing being crushed/lost/soaked in flying piss (don't ask).
Fair play to you.
This is a piece of genuine Rock history.🤘
I can't either, I wrapped it in a big jumper and put some glass coke bottles on top, knowing that they would remove them. It's just a pity the video was so bad in those days.
@@RockNewsUK It's better than no footage at all. You did well brother!
@@LeoHodges Thanks
@@RockNewsUK This is epic.
All we old f***ers have else is memory.
The bog roll , bottles of pi$$ and the 20 yard surge forward which very regrettably caused me to stub a fag out in a blokes eye when Slade came on in 1980. The bloke face down in a foot of piss soaked mud at Knebworth in 1985 for Deep Purple. Not probably as bad as what happened to Malt Loaf, but that's another story.
@@simonengland6448 🤣I remember Knebworth, it was an epic day but very wet.
I was there! Best act ever! RIP Colin
We are the veterans 😄
I really didn't expect someday I'd watch the actual footage of their performance at Castle Donnington. I'm laughing so hard at this! 😂
Hello Maria. Watch bad news on the tube. UA-cam. Cheers.
Me neither!
RIP Colin Grigson.
He is stealing the show up there right now.
He entert heaven like Flashheart entert in Blackadder two 🤘❤🤘
@Dan Wrong.
We won't see his like again.
I love the guy in the crowd shouting 'it says sausages up there!' haha brilliant
Cannot believe this has surfaced after all this time! Comedy and metal gold!!
if you download kodi the whole comic strip presents series all 5 of them are on there.
Cheers - I have the box set. 🤘🏼😁🤘🏼
bollocks, I got kodi and they don't work
@@fongy200 Whats the 5? here's only Bad news and bad news tour that I know of
@@Sloposse wow seriously? There's loads
Vim is a rock god, Spider is a legend (once he's signed on) Den.....no I still can't read that bit....and Colin was a banker...God rest is soul. Best Band EVER!
brilliant that this surfaced, like Hendrix at woodstock
I was there, I was 19, I remember the "f**k off bad news", and the piss bottle battle, I also remember when Lemmy stopped the motorhead show when an a**hole flew a rocket on the stage, august 16th, 1986, crazy days.
I was 17 and was twatted on the head by a big stone... was a little miffed for a few seconds then carried on headbanging. I did think Bad News was shit... funny but shit haha
I was also there as a nineteen year old... I remember "Vampire Spunk Merchants From Hell!" 😂
I stood in the queue to the beer tent for this entire set lol.. RIP Colin.
Ade would have actually made a great metal front man. Vocal wise, I mean. And the songs he wrote for this series were actually really great rock songs. They could have done well as a legit band, maybe with a better bass player. lol
Draxler Chronicles I’m Trevor, Colins twin brother and I resent that last statement !
The Bad Shepherds are pretty good, for folk punk /metal...
Hey give Colin a break, he went through bad times like when he was shacked up with punks and “almost” had a drug overdose. 😂
@@Mors_Inimicis Hes much groovier than you, Trevor!
@@Mors_Inimicis You must admit Colin's got a lot of talents, playing the bass is a tiny bit upgradeable among them! ❤️
This is solid gold. RIP Colin Grigson.
His brother Trevor died.
Drink 'til I Die 5:38
Vampire Spunk Merchants from Hell 9:19
Bitch Hell Mother 10:29
Motorbike 14:26
Warriors of Ghengis Khan 17:30
Bad News 22:20
incidentally, this show and Live at Hammersmith Odeon are now available on a new double CD - F**K OFF BAD NEWS!
Thanks for the upload (I never thought I would ever see this whole performance).
That long delay at the start wouldn't have happened if they'd scheduled a soundcheck for them the day before
I'm crying with laughter here. Rick & Ade changed my life forever, god bless em. Amazing historical artifact, thanks for posting!
top man andrew for uploading this.. in bad news fan eyes (and I am a big one!) this is the holy grail of the four horseman of the rock apocalypse. (Leaders and saviours of the wild ride to oblivion and ecstasy!) I was there and they did blow ozzy off the stage.. also at hammersmith (still have the ticket stub for that one!:) thanks again for letting me relive it all again! :))
Haha I was here as well and went to see them at nott'm concert hall, me and bro got t shirts - which we still have - super vintage 🤘😂🤘
This Donington set is now available on Spotify believe it or not!
I still have my vinyl - fully signed by the guys (in character no less) which still makes me smile. 😄
I seem to remember Def Leppard had more bottles thrown at them than Bad News at that festival.
Def Leppard were awesome that day, pity they turned queer soon after
They deserved it . Wtf was a pop group doing at CD .
This was probably the incident mentioned in the Def Leppard book by David Fricke.
love it, Monsters of Rock 1986 was the best one pitty i missed it had the best bands
I remember spider blowing himself up at the end of this gig. It had to be done as it was the best option for him considering the crowd bolted to the stage to attack the rest of the band, he literally just detonated himself.
Back in the day when you could take your own alcohol inside. The plastic bottle launching in the crowd that day was one of the highlights of the entire show and I was there to witness it. If you were there too, you know what I'm talking about.
Were you there? No probably not, wasn't even born I expect. It was an
experience that I cherish to this day. Piss or no piss I got hit a few
times sure and I'm still here to tell the tale. It was a day of pure
energy and nobody gave a f**k about being drenched in piss or alcohol.
There was no fighting, no body got hurt and everyone just laughed it
off. We had the best of times. Yes being drenched in piss in say a
supermarket would have ticked me off no end, but this was a Rock
festival in the heart of England in the mid 80's. We were all pissed
inside and out. You could have showered us with liquid sh*t all we
cared. I celebrated my youth in my way along with my best mates and you
know what those days were the best ever.....I WAS THERE.
I remember in '85 a big 4 pint demi-john landed near us. Some bloke picked it up and said 'I wonder if this is piss' and took a swig. He then said, 'Yeah, it is' and hussed it forward :)
I was there!
I 984 was completely insane - I was 13 and will never ever forget that day, the crowd, the bands - this will be preserved in heavy metal history 🤘🤘
@@functio1 ROFL!
I’ll never forget being in the audience at Donington for Monsters of Rock in 1991 and the amount of bottles (and basically anything else that wasn’t bolted down seemingly!) launched into the air during Metallica’s set when they played “Battery” is an experience I’ll never forget! It was mad! 😂
That's me being called a wanker by you all. Ade very kindly apologised after the show.
Is that Alan from Alan Metcalf painters and decorators limited?
PURE GOLD!!!🤘
Thank you so much for posting this
I was there that day
This is freaking AWESOME!!! Just watched 'More Bad News', so did a search... Can't believe this is on here!!!
I Was there, Nigel came on at the beginning saying "I got some Bad News we aren't going to play the crowd went crazy for them " I went three years running no other gigs have ever come close to Castle Donnington.
Drink til I die is one of the greatest Rock n roll songs of all time.
😆
Ha, ha, we were there all the way from Northern Ireland, about 30 of us all together drinking Derby dry, R. I. P. Tommy vance
WOW cant believe someone has posted the Bad News Concert!!!! What a Documentary....RIP Colin!
Den........dippy den.....I wanna go 2 the toilet.
Riks rocking in heaven probably laughing his cock off at this!!!!
History recorded brother. Thank god you did this.
OMG my older cousins were there!!! Bad News got bottled; Lemmy and Motörhead were next on stage. Castle Donington 1986 - it never got any better. Huge thanks for uploading this friend 🙏
Hell yeah!
I was there too they wouldn't play till the crowd chucked bottles at them
@@markrainton9466 😂😂 I miss the old days.
ade is a fucking grate singer
rik , awesome as ever
" Another heavy-metal day. No sleep until Castle Donington. Better have some vibes. "My first MoR - seeing these has brought back some great memories. Many thanks for posting
LOL You have a keen brain. That's where his mum brings him his tea in bed.
Ha ha "..er, thanks very much Mrs.Grigson"....."there's no need to be so formal,Colin,I AM your mother"
"Daddy, daddy, please put the power back on! I promise I'll turn it down!"
Nice to hear "Motorbike/Doin' a ton down the highway" in it's glorious entirety.
Masturbike I think!
@@foxee36 Masturbike is an entirely different song. "Fires of hell, doomsday bell, prison cell, bloody hell... On my masturbike."
Motorbike was part of the soundtrack in the original Bad News Tour film.
Haha, I too was there, great day, I was 20 in 86
"Answer that and stay fashionable"
_ Vim fuwago
Thank you so much for posting and to the guy filming this back in the day, with a monster video recorder.. RIP Colin Grigson.. Loved Bad News and still do...
Ha ha! Terrific to see finally see the whole gig after a mere 30 years.
Thank you to the forward thinker who recorded this.
It was a great day, I must have been 17 then.
Jeez.
i refuse to leave just as we're on the brink of success!!
Do you hear me Vim?! I refuse to leave. Colin, stop crying.
@@controloz3310 who's that playing base ???
Finding this is absolute gold.
Fantastic. Best band in the world ever :-)
This is fucking amazing, I'm glad the meter didn't run out.
I CANT BELIEVE THIS, THIS GOT RECORDED BY SOMEONE IN THE MOSH PIT! :D
Without a doubt the most talented and entertaining act that year, or any year since.
SUPERB!
so glad i found this ...fantastic!!!!
Thank you for uploading!! first song I ever played live was Drink 'till I die. I never knew they played it here.
Did not expect to see this. Ever. Thank you!
This is invaluable! Must've been a twat dragging an old style full size vhs camera through that audience to film that day! Good footage though! Thanks for this rare upload!!!!
I don't think that's VHS... I'm gonna guess it's video8 or U-matic, based on the dropouts. The camera used is the limiting factor...
I've only waited about 3 decades to see this. Thanks for uploading. Awesome footage :)
This is amazing !!! Thx for uploading this. To see the actual Bad News gig at Monsters of rock , after all this years , is fantastic.
Apart from the footage on More Bad News, I've never seen this before. Thanks so much for sharing. Absolutely brilliant.
i was there aswell...f'kin brilliant...cheers for sharing xxx
I was there. Great times 😊
DUUUUDE !! YOU ARE THE MAIN MAN !! It is SOOO AWESOME to finally see and hear ever bit of this RARE GEM OF RIDICULOUSNESS !! THANK YOU !!
Great stuff , brought back some great memories of that day , thank you for posting it !! \m/ \m/
I still have the single with the scratch and sniff cover.
Bad news. The best band in the fucking world. Let's all get some lager. Cheers 🍻
😆😆😆😆
when I was getting my nose piercing I noticed the piercing dude had a maiden sticker on his utensil draws, we started talking about music and that. He mentioned he went in 86 too, and I was like 'so you saw bad news then??', his response was 'yea!!, I was one of the ones throwing bottles throwing bottles'
I was there, and it was awesome!
Brilliant to see this, I was there, hell of a day.
I want a bad news tribute band!
Impossible, there are no musicians with so much talent.
@Sterlingjob i think there is a tribute band, called "Guns & roses" 😅
You rock for posting this . cheers
Thanks for this, brings back some great memories. What a great line up... Ozzy, Scorpions, Def Leppard, Mötorhead, Warlock and of course the show stealers Bad News.
class, never seen this before, bad news & more bad news were brilliant, could watch comic strips 24/7,good days.
Work with a guy who was an extra on this , said rick mayall was great guy shared beers out !!
So good to see this - I was there.
This is revolutionary
never knew film existed apart from what was on the More Bad News
I know there was audios floating about on the net of Donnington, reading and Hammersmith
Brilliant!!!
This is brilliant.
Thanks you, never thought I'd see this - Warriors at 17:20 is sublime. Shame they didn't do Masterbike.
I was there !!! somewhere down the front ..in front of Mr Nigel Planer !!!!!
Fucking brilliant. Legends.
A great find 👍
09:16 - "Okay ... the next number is ... Vampire Spunk Merchants from Hell"
10:14 - "That was one of our shorter numbers ... okay ... this next song is about a woman I've known for about 25 years ... it's called: Bitch Hell Mother"
I was there, amazing day, my first ever live show :)
Not seen this before. I was there that day. It was a lot of fun.
Brilliant. Thanks for putting it up
Vampire Spunk merchants from hell.😆😆😆
One of their shorter numbers. 😂😂😂
This is amazing!! I always wondered what the rest of their set sounded like. Bitch Heel Mama sounds almost like doomy stoner metal
I wasn't at this gig
Oh jimmy art in heaven hendrix be thy name!
*Jimi
Still waiting for the reunion of Even More BAD NEWS and a world tour!!! RIP Colin!!
Thank you so much for uploading this Bad News rock and are far more talented and entertaining than the dross we are served up now
They were better than most of the dross then ! Watch clips from ECT to be reminded how shit most metal was in the 80s
This is gold
gave me a real laugh, i was at this concert thought i would never see this again and laugh all over again
This is excellent ! Thank you for posting this ! They actually rehearsed in the same rooms that my band at the time used. We never quite managed to play at Donington, however !
Brilliant! Any nice little anecdotes?
@@fang_uk Yeah he dreamt the f lot. Rehearsed in the same room my ar5e
@@garymitchell5899 Sure, because they obviously never needed to rehearse like the rest of us mere mortals. 🙄 Grow the fuck up.
I remember this. There were lots of bottle with warm, er, liquid in them, as was the norm those days - you didn't move the whole show, so what went in, was returned to the bottle it came out of. And then lobbed.
This video is so awful it looks like a deliberate parody of a Bad News documentary or bootleg. Well done (unintentionally) I loved it all. Thanks for posting.
You should have seen it before it was cleaned up. 😀
I thought the whole thing was a spoof documentary, I never knew they actually played there! Absolutely awful but a great piece of history
Yeah - you can find this set on Spotify believe it or not!
@@fang_uk seriously??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This brilliant!!!! How long have you been sitting on this footage??! Killer to see it from an audience point of view. I've watched the "tour" movie a billion times! Thanks for this!
I was there !!!!!!!
Just brilliant! I thought they were supposed to have got pelted with way more bottles than this?! A respectful crowd taking in masterpieces like the rare gem Motorbike (Doin a Turn Down The Highway) and Warriors of Genghis Kahn. The video cuts out at the key moment though; like just before Colin got his throat slit?! A shame; we'll never know which bastard did it?!
It was his mum's fault for sewing his name on the back of his t-shirt.
*'Doin a TON down the highway' :)
They did but Def Leppard faired even worse.....they were perceived to be American sellout at the time.
it was Vim wasnt it???
This is fucking brilliant!
After 37 years it only just occurred to me that Rick with a silent P could probably play the bass well enough to not fuck around as much as he did. I wanted to be a bassist, but I became a singer instead. I should have stuck to painting gates.
You've got to be pretty fucking good to sound that shit on purpose
that was amazing and bloody awful all at the same time!!!! Long live BAD NEWS... (fuck off bad news!) 🙂(my favourite "the comic strip" creation ever)
