My rank would go to (obviously cf the consoles) 1. Vita 2. 2ds/3ds 3. Ps5/4 4. Switch 5. Wii u 6. Ps3 With all those you got mostly all emulation covered.
While the WiiU itself doesn't has many jrpgs, with it's retro potential you can get pretty much anything up the ps1 / n64, plus is the best way to play DS on TV. That, and Paper Mario Color Splash and Xenoblade X, Color splash might be hindered down because of it's direction but it has gorgeous graphics and music, and Xenoblade X might feel more like an open world game than an rpg but in that I'd argue is even better than Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
Shouldn't switch be higher than everyone else than as android has the largest/most well developed emulator selection outside of windows for a platform and being more powerful than the other handhelds?

Definitely agree with PS4 being so high up, had some enjoyable hours with games I'd never heard of before. Mainly thanks to you and your channel, thank you 🙂
Nope. SNES and PS1 are top 2, followed by PS2 just because of quantity, even though that was the generation when JRPGs lost course, leading to the dark ages of the shite, not top 10 deserving, not even top 20 placing dumpster fire for JRPGs that was the PS3. Best "exclusive" JRPG on PS3 was Tales of Graces f, a Wii port and all-around middling Tales game. Better than the trash that was Xillia, though. Speaking of Wii, at least you had Arc Rise Fantasia there, a deeply flawed JRPG that at least had the stones to do a turn based battle system that generation. As for Trails of Cold Steel, you could just play those on PC. Oh, and Nintendo handelds over Sony's for JRPGs, too.
You can't have a top 10 JRPG list without Snes. Im sorry but the 3DS, DS and Vita is not even in the same ballpark as the SNES. I agree with top 4 though, but I would put SNES in 5th place as the lowest. Chrono Trigger, FF4-6, Mario RPG, Lufia 2, Secret of Mana, Star Ocean, Breath of Fire, DQ5, Terranigma and Soul Blazer. To name a few. If we look at untranslated games which got fan translations i can name like 8 more. Like Live a Live or Trials of mana for example.
My personal list: 1 and 2 have more games in total than every console combined, so they deserve it. 1. PC ridiculous library, with other methods it also even includes almost every console 2. Portable PCs: Steam Deck, Rog Ally, etc: same as above, not as much power but portable. 3. PS1 4. PS2 5. PS4 6. Switch 7. PS3 8. 3DS 9. DS 10. SNES
Would you consider listing "every JRPG that Erick Landon RPG would play" you could even break it down to a video per console, I bet it would make great content and a lot of us would try games we didn't know existed. Psp and ps vita being above snes is a joke. Ps1, PS2 and SNES will be the top for me. PS4 is good mainly for quantity but not exactly quality like the others. Some of the Gameboy (ds, 3ds, etc had some good ones too)

PS3 is mediocre for me since I am not a fan of the Trails or Atelier series. The great games I liked on the PS3 also came out on the 360 which had a few unique I liked way better. I would rate SNES way higher by a lot, but that is due to where I really fell in love with the genre and can still go back and play them today. It would most likely not raise much, but SNES also had some games from the NES days. I do believe talking about current systems is kind of moot, basically, games are either on multiple consoles or a console & computers.
i started playing jrpgs back in ps3 days around 2008 because back then western 3rd parties games are all about zombie shooters or some mediocre super hero stuff i was bored with them back then , so change of pace i started playing games like eternal sonata , tales of vesperia .. Now here i am still playing jrpg since 2008..
Funny enough you could say that I started my Jrpg journey on the Game Boy Color. I guess that’s why I’ve always related the genre to Nintendo and Handheld consoles. But, regardless we JRPG fans have been eating well these past thirty-or so years
Dont agree with ps4 since i think that most ps4 jrpgs are playable on other platforms as well such as pc, switch, xbox and so on. I got the ps4 from my brother last year and found out i already played almost every ps4 jrpg i was interested in despite not even having had a ps4. No hate i just wouldnt rank it that high personally.
I’d agree there, at least it’d be top 3 for me with the Steam Deck and how easy it is to emulate you can easily play everything up to the PS2/GC generation really well, combine it with a hacked 3DS/2DS (to be able to easily play all your DS games) and Vita (the same with PSP) and you have the ultimate handheld trio (throw in the Switch for good measure for newer stuff that hasn’t been ported to Steam) though I’m also loving my PS5 for RPGs because it runs the PS4 stuff better than ever
I think that choosing the best one, above others, is highly subjective at this point. What cannot be disputed is that there never was a more amazing combo than a PS4(or PS5, even better) and Switch. If you're lucky enough to afford both systems, there simply isn't anything else that comes close to the crazy amount of quality games at your disposal.

I'd argue Nintendo DS was pivotal in carrying the torch for the genre during initial darkness of the 7th generation when budgets skyrocketed for PS3/360 and most JRPGs just could not keep up as everyone was interested in TPS or FPS for that wide appeal.

Did you watch the video? This is a list of best RPG consoles for their list of games and what they did for the genre, not what console is better to play on.
@@redscience2117 i did. if you mod a ps3 and Vita you not only have the coolest hardware but also the greatest functional library. of course it requires some research and work to mod stuff or you pay for it.
Japanese Saturn should be in TOP 3 (MASSIVE catalog of japanese games)
1. PS2
2. DS/3DS
3. PSX / Saturn (Japan only)
4. PS4
5. PSP / PSV (emulation)
6. Switch / SNES
7. PS3
8. Dreamcast / Gamecube
9. Wii
10. PS5
Put the PS5 above the PS4 since it can play all the PS4 games plus PS5 exclusive jrpgs like FF7 Rebirth and FF16. Oh and it also plays all these jrpgs better.
@@dammyoyesanya4656 I count PS5 as standalone console for jrpg, no with PS4 compatibility (like i did with PS3 which had PS2 and PSX compability). PS5 have only one ekslusive JRPG - FF XVI - and this is main reason why i putted PS5 on 10th place. All jrpgs from PS5 i can play on PC or PS4, PS5 literally have no builded jrpgs for PS5 except FF XVI, and this game is only jrpg by name (westernization of series).
Ps1 and Japanese Saturn... You know what's up I've got both of those machines currently Hooked up to a 27 inch Sony Trinitron CRT it's glorious
My rank would go to (obviously cf the consoles)
1. Vita
2. 2ds/3ds
3. Ps5/4
4. Switch
5. Wii u
6. Ps3
With all those you got mostly all emulation covered.
I have all those minus the vita lol
@@ericp631 In terms of form factor I would not call it the best portable though the library is great.
@@SuiteLifeofDioBrando gotcha. I to prefer pocketablity for handhelds/wished the lite was as small as a vita
Putting the Snes on spot 10 is ridiculous. It has Terranigma
Illusion of Gaia
Soul Blazer
ActRaiser
Super Mario RPG
Final Fantasy IV, V and VI
Lufia 2
Secret of Mana
Front Mission
Live A Live
Chrono Trigger
Romancing SaGa, 2
Breath of Fire 1 and 2
Dragon Quest IV and 5
Tactics Ogre
Treasure of the Rudras
Star Ocean
Ys 4: Mask of the Sun
Treasure Hunter G
Earthbound
The 7th Saga
Harvest Moon
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 SNES
And I'm forgetting a lot of games probably
It's true, the PS2 is king. I have a chinese handheld that kinda-sorta runs PS2, which wasnt good enough for me. I went WAY out of my way setting up an extra PC to stream the emulation to my handheld just to play PS2 with flawless performance, lol. I would have never done that for any other library.
Odin can run PS2 games at X3 resolution, and the hardest one to emulate ( like DQ8) you can run at resolution X 1.5 or 1.75.
@@awesomereviews1561 Yeah, I deliberated over it for a while - but I settled for an RG505. I probably shouldnt have done that - but it is "decent" for the $165 that I paid.
Totally agree with most of this list
1.ps2-2.switch-3.ps4 for me though, also Iam still praying for a remastered of tales of destiny series & actually release to the west, they kept so many great tittles from us, great video as always 👍
PS2 doesnt hold a candle to this list, no offense
Final Fantasy (7, 8, 9), Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, Alundra, Vandal Hearts (1, 2), Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Arc the Lad (1, 2, 3), Parasite Eve (1, 2), King's Field (1, 2, 3), Legend of Dragoon, Breath of Fire (3, 4), Grandia, Wild Arms (1, 2), Lunar SSS Complete, Lunar Eternal Blue Complete, Legend of Mana, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Star Oceans: Second Story, Suikoden (1, 2), Persona (1, 2), Thousand Arms, Tales of Destiny, Valkyrie Profile, Legend of Legaia, Brave Fencer Musashi, SaGa Frontier
Ni No Kuni started on the DS, not the PS3.
1. PC ridiculous library, with other methods it also even includes almost every console
2. Portable PCs: Steam Deck, Rog Ally, etc: same as above, not as much power but portable.
3. PS1
4. PS2
5. PS4
6. Switch
7. PS3
8. 3DS
9. DS
10. SNES
Look at them. Don't you see it ? The Pc players smirking in the shade of the comment section.
Not really smirking but the PC opened a whole new world of JRPGs for me with fan translations. God bless those involved in bringing them to us.
Would you consider listing "every JRPG that Erick Landon RPG would play"
you could even break it down to a video per console, I bet it would make great content and a lot of us would try games we didn't know existed. (or we could make it into a... Erick Landon's complete JRPG challenge!)
reminds me of the animaniacs when yako sings the countries of the world 😂
I still think what the PS1 did for the genre will never be replicated and it will be #1 for years to come…
But damn, that YS song during your PS2 presentation gave me shivers of nostalgia!
Ps1 has some absolute classic JRPGs thay yes ofcourse they have some Jank but if you can get past that there's never been a system since with such incredible stories xenogears alone puts it at number 1 for me
Psp and ps vita being above snes is a joke. Ps1, PS2 and SNES will be the top for me. PS4 is good mainly for quantity but not exactly quality like the others. Some of the Gameboy (ds, 3ds, etc had some good ones too)
Hi!! Great Video!!! I Totally agreee with number 1 & 2. Please could you tell me what games we are viewing on minutes 1)12:13 and 2)17:03 ?? . Big hug from Argentina!! Juan Pablo
No saturn ? really !!!
this console have her place here.
Saturn USA/EU - no games, no jrpg's
Saturn JPN - many games, many great jrpg's, still the only one console (with PSX and PS2) who beat Nintendo in Japan
Thank you, Bernie Stolar for killing Sega ...
I have a modded Vita but I'm not sure if it runs PS2 games I have a lot of PS1 ROMs anyone have a link to a good modding video for Vita?
1st...android with emulators 😂
PC with emulators
@@ericp631yup imagine Emulating on a phone povos 😂
Its hard because ps1 had ff9 but ps2 had shadow hearts, ffx, and personas 2 and 3
how in the world does PS2 top this list over the switch and ps1? unbelievable. such a mid tier rpg console lol
steam deck...
I was surprised to see PS3 on number 5 but you're right it's such an underrated console!
What is the criteria? Number of games or quality of games?
do you recommend getting a 3DS if I already own a Switch? cool video!
top 10 cheese in jrpg next
It's not a matter of opinion, but fact, that the PS1 is the best console for JRPGs.
Ni No Kuni came out on the DS, not the PS3. PS3 version is a remake.
Well... obviously the best platform for JRPGs is the PC. You can emulate almost all the other consoles.
I’d agree there, at least it’d be top 3 for me with the Steam Deck and how easy it is to emulate
you can easily play everything up to the PS2/GC generation really well, combine it with a hacked 3DS/2DS (to be able to easily play all your DS games) and Vita (the same with PSP) and you have the ultimate handheld trio (throw in the Switch for good measure for newer stuff that hasn’t been ported to Steam)
though I’m also loving my PS5 for RPGs because it runs the PS4 stuff better than ever
If we count pokemon, then it may legit be gameboy
Mr Landon i know you may or may not answer this but have you ever said how many rpgs you had or did a room tour or whatever
SNES, Switch, PS2, PS1, DS, in no particular order
the ps2 is with the most great jrpg, but the ps1 jrpg era was the best jrpg for me.
I still have a functional PS2
Me too !! ❤
@@TheAntifluencer Nice. I still play Wizardry, tale of the Forsaken land.
I thought the DS was only Pokemon games. Hahahaha.😅
Ps classic was the best purchase ive made for jrpgs
A built in emulator for PlayStation games is pretty cool, but would it be possible to add snes games to it
@@bullsteak3468yes you can add anything up to ps1 and some ds and PSP games
@@Blernster dang I might just have to get one, I’ll just have to figure out how to mod it 😂
@@bullsteak3468 there's lots of good tutorials on UA-cam! If you prefer playing on the couch rather than emulating on a PC it's awesome
Gotta love hearing Silver Will in the background for the PSP segment.
For me, it's still the PS2, but the PS4 makes a solid case.
14:52
FF 7 Reamke is shit so nope thats a win for Nintendo
One recommendation: You really should consider playing Earthbound for the SNES if you haven‘t. It‘s an important JRPG.
Best consoles for me is nes and gb/gbc
Did you know that the creators and developers of this genre didn't like the J in JRPG? PlayStation 2 Rules!
No XBOX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? 😨🤯
I love your channel. Stuff haters.😂 Gotta make those thumbnails work.
Or PC and Switch. But PS4 and Switch is definitely a more affordable combo. I got my gaming PC as a gift.😅
@@ltb1345 I was just talking about consoles, since it was the topic of the video, but yeah, pc definitely gives you a lot of options as well. But as someone who likes to collect games, consoles are always my preferred way of playing.
@@ltb1345Or just PC. Why have a Switch when you can just emulate it and run the games better?
@@redscience2117that's true
Why I stopped watching his channel the snes had amazing jrpg and you didn't even mention earthbound you mention the casuals smfh why because you're a casuals gamer
Name me 5 JP-exclusive SNES JRPGs without looking at a list...
@@nahbruh3226 Bahamut Lagoon, 7th Saga 2, Terranigma, Live A Live. That's 4 in the span of 10 seconds. I can't think of a 5th. I mean technically Terranigma wasn't JP exclusive, but it didn't make its way to America.
@@ivenstorm Rudora no Hihou would be the 5th
@@ivenstorm treasure of the rudras, star ocean, final fantasy 5, tales of phantasia?
Phantasia, not Symphonia... you get the idea.
What’s the game in 9:31 ? 😮
I was just about to comment about emulation perspective, defending my Vita, lol. Glad to see you included that at 17:37. Awesome video as always.
If xenasaga ever get remastered on switch that system has potential to be number 1. Either day completely agree with this list and ps2 has so many iconic jrpgs that never got re released. I wish emulation was better on ps2. Valkyrie profile 2 n xenosaga is unplayable on emulation. I would buy those games in a heart beat if it got released.
Gotta be 3ds or PS4 for me
I'd argue Nintendo DS was pivotal in carrying the torch for the genre during initial darkness of the 7th generation when budgets skyrocketed for PS3/360 and most JRPGs just could not keep up as everyone was interested in TPS or FPS for that wide appeal.
but Switch' success is still progressing, and games keep coming perhaps for years to come
I think it's winding down now.
Idk if im just nostalgic but i still feels till this day ps2 was the best console of all time and my favorite game of all times Radiata Stories was there too, but i too feel ps2 was the Goat for JRPG
