My husband and I were hiking on Jeju Island in South Korea when we happened upon some women divers who had just come from the sea. They were preparing all the sea urchin they caught, and let us try some. It was the most delicious thing I've ever tasted!
I like the oysters here now is very difficult to get as mostly the havesters will havest it and sell to seafood restaurant. I love to eat as the restaurant fried with flour make into oysters pancakes. Yummy

Many times I got pricked by them. We used to collect them and put them in a potato sack, you drag them on the reef as you collect other seafood. By the time you're done, most of the sharp needle-like thingy have reduced making it easier to get to the meat inside. We also use the coconut flower heads to brush off the pointy thingy. We call the 'vana' also known as long-spined-urchin. There's another sea urchin without the pointy thingy. We call them 'avake' - hidden sea urchins. I like them too. We eat the raw with a bit of limeor lemon...yum!

In my country, Spain, there is a coastal area where a special party is held just to eat sea urchins. I have never eaten them but they say they are very good. I suppose it is lucky to be able to go to the coast and collect shells, snails and crabs to eat, so fresh without going through a market. You have to live in a place like this. We call sea urchins, kinas here in new zealand, we definitely dont cook them we eat it straight from the shell. Some cook them some dont.
