    Another fun vid! What a great machine for XP glory. I remember that having "soft shadows" enabled in FEAR was a big fps killer. Top marks to your GTX donator, for the donation and the packaging!

    Having too much VRAM on that graphics card causes Quake 4 to display low-resolution textures; this issue can be resolved with a few lines in the configuration file.

    there is a patch for FEAR that fixes your frame issues using newer hardware than the game era release date… if I recall correctly it’s just replacing a DLL file in the installation folder and instantly double your performance if not more, depending on your hardware of course.

    • @MidnightGeek99
      @MidnightGeek99  2 роки тому

      That's right, I did not use that DLL initially, I've thought that it's a modern OS problem, but afet copying the DLL, the FPS went up quite a bit.

    Even if that motherboard doesn't have any particular vrm cooling you should be able too push a unlocked I5 2500k too 4.2 ghz no problem on there, worth considering maybe for some games like stalker coc there.
    Also for F.e.a.r there is a fps patch on " pc gaming wiki " that fixes the low fps i believe, not 100% sure it's needed on windows xp but worth looking up.
    The texture problem in Quake 4 is because your gpu has more then 1 gb vram now it forces the textures down in quality too their absolute minimum, simple fix in a config file or launch command on a game shortcut and making it read only should solve it though.

      Thank you for the tips. The CPU is next to be upgraded, I really want at least a 2500k, but I'm aiming for i7 though.

    I just ordered my GIGABYTE GTX 950 XTREME Gaming card yesterday and an ASUS GTX 960 DirectCU II Black OC, both with 2GB of video memory and close in performance (it doesn't hurt to have a spare, right?). In the first phase I will use them on my already existing system with Intel Core2Duo E6500 and 4GB DDR2 800 memory and I can't wait to see what the two video cards can do.
    But in the near future I plan to get a Core I7 2600k with a frequency of 3.4GHz/ 3.8 GHz BOOST with 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz and a Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3P-B3 motherboard. I understood that this motherboard also natively supports Windows XP.

      Absolutely no problems with the resolution, only with the refresh rate, although I have a feeling that it's because of the video card + drivers, because I also have some issues with a CRT, the image flickers like mad when using higher resolutions and refresh rates (1600x1200@75Hz).

    I don't know why my previous comment was rejected, maybe cause i left a link. Anyway, Q4 has a known glitch with cards that have more than 1GB vram. Easy fix though, check PC gaming wiki for the config file changes needed. It's actually a fantastic looking game for it's age, and I'm pretty sure it can look even better than your config with the other monitor.
