It seems all these principles have to do with aligning two complementary properties (traditionally known as yin-yang): 1. Core & limbs 2. Attention & form 3 & 4 together: Solidity (e..g in the grounding) & Looseness (e.g. in the movement) 5. Upper & lower 6. Expansiveness & Reservedness 7. Health & Martial intent ... etc ... For those who're not aware yet, the word Taiji (太极) is indeed about the balanced state from which yin-yang arises or to which it returns. :) So Taiji Quan is literally the "martial art" that brings the yin & yang together in good balance.

I have a question master Gu. As you were mentioning the poor eye movement topic. You mentioned eye follows the movement. But I can't help but notice that the Eyes were leading the movement. How am I to understand this? Isn't it that the spirit leads the chi and the eye therefore leads the hands? Thank you for taking your time considering my question.
When you want to hit something from the center of your body , energy comes out & breathes out , you look at the target first , then the movement follows ( eyes lead the movement ) . When you start the movement back to the center , energy comes in , breathes in , eyes follow the movement ( the movement leads the eyes ) . In general , energy comes out from the center of the body , then moves to another center ( breathes in ), then energy comes out , then moves to another center ( breathes in ) , etc . O.K.
I just finished Tai Chi the 48 and like all the others I practiced , I remembered and practiced make the shape. Make the shape means like, hold the ball. When you see the shape demonstrated in front of or beside you, you make that shape, and if done correctly you don't overextend or underextend. The mixture of lateral foot work combined with circular hand movements should motivate every Tai Chi disciple to practice at least twice to three times a week.ℹ️💯✅❤️👍👌🙏✝️🗡️🥷☯️😎
How does Tai Chi help one to fight? Is there a translation of moves to fighting response? Lest you misinterpret, I have health, I have strength, I have peace of mind... but I have enemies who are bigger and stronger than me... and I wish to add effective combat moves to enhance my ability to respond to these adversaries. Thank you..
You need to find a good instructor who understands the martial applications and push hands drills etc. it’s worth looking up books on the Tai Chi Classics.
Fighting, fighting and fighting... this is a mistake. First, learn all movements correctly, thinking this is an ART, do not forget. The Martial Arts are so beautiful. After, FEEL your body in stable position and I movement. That's all. There are two schools, one practice meditation in moving and the other practice the techniques to fight. The first is unlimited and the second is limited...¡ choose! Good Luck!!
@@shanosevillano8319 Fighting is a fact of life... and the world shows no signs of improving... any advantage I can find is a step towards survival. I am 77 years old and been meditating for most of it... fit, healthy, calm, possessed... but constantly looking to improve my fighting skills.
I havent seen your practice or how well you move, but you already know the martial art, your teacher just needs to basically explain how to use your current practice as it is. But, it will require work still to be good. What I can offer is take a few postures and just do those over and over as drills. Your movements have to be without thinking, just doing.
@@rickmortis You are right. I'm hoping to recover my former Tai chi ability in form 24 after some setbacks. I'm hoping to see better explanation of Tai chi walking.

Some teachers were never taught the martial art, but it also depends on the students a teacher has. In my case I have many older students and so they are only interested in just the health benefits Taijiquan offers. For them I do still introduce the martial art side but more as a theory to help with deeper understanding.
