    Hey guys, in this video we are showing detailed step by step guide on how to replace your valve cover gasket on BMW N55 engine specifically on F12 640i, exactly the same on F10 535i, starting from 2012 to 2105 BMW 740i, somewhat similar on F30 335i and 435i.
    Thank you for watching

    Have you ever heard a whistling/nose in the 650ixdrive when accelerating between 20-40 mph? It usually does it when the car has been driving for a while. The AC does not have to be on. Dealership could never find the problem. They mentioned that intermittion noise are hard to locate.

      Watching this video and the only bolt left is that one and I think it’s stripped 😭

  • @ЕвгенийКолпаков-м6й

    Tim, many thanks for this video. The process looks so simple in your hands 😅 Sorry for the stupid question: could you recall what was the reason for changing the gasket? Oil leakage or it's just a preventive measure?
    By the way, I hope you eventually tightened the 10mm bolt from the 56:50 moment

    • @Zeiten
      @Zeiten  Рік тому +1

      Thank you appreciate your feedback🙌 well this valve cover gasket started to leak in the back area slowly so that was the reason, I wouldn’t change it as preventative maintenance since you can’t really tell how long it will last. The rule is simple - it starts leaking change if it doesn’t then don’t touch it

    The good thing is the valve cover gasket screws are stuck on the cover. It would be really hard to keep it from falling out. That's the only good design by BMW. The other designs are overly engineered to make it difficult for a DIYer to do than a trained BMW technician.

    Why is valve cover gaskets something that goes bad constantly on beemers? I thought BMWs were better than American cars but apparently it ain’t. Piss me off every now and then something breaks.

    It depends on the car some chasis are deeper some are narrowed making the back nuts event harder to take off.

    Why don't you use gasket cement? It would ensure the gasket doesn't slip or move while you are reinstalling the valve cover. Plus it will make the gasket more durable in case, over time, you get an increase in crankcase pressure which is what blows out gaskets...

    Getting ready to do a valve cover and gasket replacement on my 2016 X5 with 66,000 miles, gasket went but since the PVC is integrated into the cover I decided to replace the cover as well...any way, what is the gasket adhesive you used as it was not clear enough for me to understand. Also do you have the valve cover bolt pattern sequence for the 26 bolts? I've seen it elsewhere but I'm going to check and double check to play it safe. thank you for taking the time to post your video...

    • @Zeiten

      Permatex black is what i used, as for bolt pattern doesn’t really matter just hand tight all of them and then try to go evenly I usually start with left bottom corner and then opposite and so on, nothing special

    Is a vale cover replacement necessary or just the gasket?

    • @Zeiten
      @Zeiten  Рік тому

      On n55 usually gasket is enough but there are cases sometimes when pcv valve gets clogged and it is built into valve cover so the only long term remedy is valve cover replacement

I completed the entire valve head cover replacement along with gasket-flange and cap for oil filler on my 15’ 640i today at my local BMW dealership. Total invoiced was $1500. @@Zeiten I've heard that one before, truth is genuine bmw parts last 8 years plus. Aftermarket even with a bmw logo rubbed off for eg is still not the same. For the n55 engine especially I like the piece of mind genuine bmw gives... maybe my philosophy is different as I never sell my cars and don't want to do the job twice in 5 years.

      Elring seals last 4-5 years, and I’m telling you this from experience of not just one car but thousands of bmws only(we don’t fix any other car brand) we fix every year, never had any issues with elring and there is absolutely no difference with genuine

      @@Zeiten love the video, you made it look easy doing this job. I was just curious as the price difference is not huge on gasket... I have a 2003 e46 330ci still running strong at 240k miles. And have a 2015 640i at 125k miles. With the e46 i did the valve cover gasket twice before going genuine bmw. I also replaced every piece of rubber touching the intake manifold with genuine bmw in 2016. Since then never had a vacuum leak issue. (Owned that car since 2011). The 2015 640i gasket is due now at 7 years old and ive bought genuine. I put my failure down to high mileage mainly. Either way I just have a stronger preference for genuine bmw parts in certain places. Even brake discs for eg, the genuine ones last far longer than aftermarket. Either way I like the Elring brand and have tried their items over the years:) I like them much more than Meyle or Victor Reinz.!
