Thanks for the review. You make a good point regarding how conspicuous this bike is. Also, the other problem is that few people in this country live close to suitable ride locations. This means that they would need to ride on the highway to get there, (and risk police attention) or they would need a van or suitable trailer to transport it. I believe this is why there are so many on the used market.
I'm in the UK and bought the road legal version. I use it as a daily rider and have been around lots of police with it. Not pulled yet, but i get plenty of people looking. As long as its insured and your riding it normally, you won't be getting it crushed!
Yep road legal version is fine BUT thing is you have to ride it on the road or private land, soon as you are riding it around off road where only push bike are allowed it's a problem and you are easily identified with your number plate. I'd love one though, they look great fun and a option for commuting in the city.

99% of states accept the working pedal kit you can purchase for Sur Ron; get the pedal kit from Kaniwaba to make it a class 2 e-bike (working pedals with throttle). Additionally you can install their pedal assist sensor that lets you choose your power assist levels; this will work for local trails, parks, etc. that accept class 1, 2 or 3 e-bikes, so long as you don't speed or act like an idiot, and the bonus is you have the power/range to get up/around anything. If you are extremely concerned, or still being harassed for no actual reason after being responsible/legal, then buy the Sur Ron bicycle seat from Kaniwaba and it will make it look like an e-mountain-bike if appearance is the main issue. As far as the road goes, you can easily get your simple moped license in most states, or get a motorcycle license - just put turn signals on the Sur Ron if needed; STOCK Sur Ron is around 31 MPH, that's plenty on most normal roads. You can also snip the green limiter wire and get about 45 mph. You can go a step further and upgrade to the 72v battery/new-controller and get around 55+ mph which is way more than a enough, but it will cost you a lot more. The reason to still get this over an e-mountain-bike in my opinion is the power to climb anything with ease, travel roads, etc., among other reasons. The price, power, and mod-versatility is what makes the Sur Ron so valuable as you'd have to spend $6k + on a "comparable" E-Mountain-Bike (although great as well) to get a quarter of the Sur Ron's power. Cheers

You can't get them registered as an e-moped or e-motorcycle there in UK? You can get them registered everywhere in USA to ride legally but many areas will pull you over if it's unregistered. I might just add a FWD motor & small battery pack to my 2 stroke bike to make it a hybrid....That way if I see a cop give me the stink eye.
