The rule is pretty stupid to be honest.. And should come under heavy criticism. But also if there is a rule, it should be followed unless it is changed. Magnus was warned beforehand and he chose not to comply and he paid the price for it.
dude, what an emotional comment to make. what will be next? people coming to a classy tourney in bath robes, wearing thongs? not washing, being drunk, taking drugs? seriously, think before spitting rubbish like you just did.
@@lemonade2345-j4e I am of course against that but the important point you decided to omit in your reckless submission is that Magnus chose to put on jeans, a very modest apparel, without any rips or tears or any kind of excesses of the hypermodern style that people might take offence to. The things that you mentioned should be objected to and FIDE are within their rights to do so if ever it comes to that. But a jeans, the one that Magnus wore was by all appearance a material alteration of a formal trouser and does not outrage the established sense of decorum or modesty in any way, at least in the manner a thong (as you mentioned) does and therefore I said that the rule is stupid. Now when it comes to enforcing it, FIDE were right in doing that, I was pretty clear about that too. If a rule exists, it should be upheld and Magnus even as the best player on the planet deserves not to be exempted from it. For instance I support Wimbledon's all white wear, it gives the event a distinctive look befitting its tradition. But FIDE has no such distinctive traditions of its own and often allows players to put on casual attire, a plain jeans in my opinion, one that's not ripped or too low waist is not too big of an ask.
@@suchetdas5392 no, in reality its very very simple. players know the rules, and they also know that it is made a condition to abide by them, in order to participate in a tournament. carlsen knows it, all of the other players know it. carlsen may well be the best chess player on the planet, but also whomever followed him for some time knows that he is also a primadona. don't take me wrong, i like him. but he cannot simply expect to be exempted based on his recognisance.
FIDE just outed the greatest player of all time - what a dumpster fire! Quality of leadership is measured by competence in resolving conflicts. This has been an ongoing situation and Emil Sutovsky is only making things worse. He is clearly not on top of things. Any other leader would have been fired immediately by the board for loosing the biggest attraction to their business. What a disaster!
But it has been rules in all Fide event like forever. Why would changing you jeans for some pants be such a problem? It seems quite unreasonable and a bit childish to throw a tantrum, to be honest. I love MC, but this is so unnecessary.
People dont realise that dress code exist in every sport that has nothing to do with dress. Golf, billiards... so many. How difficult is it to follow a simple dress code of a particular tournament. MAgnus has been playing for years now in these tournaments. He is well aware of the controversies that happen many times due to this. It just looked like ignorance from his part
Dress code is stupid especially for a game like chess where you are sitting and people don't even see what you are wearing. Jeans absolutely can't be distracting. We shouldn't accept rules just because they are rules. We should acknowledge when a rule is stupid and openly criticise it. Magnus could have been fined but not allowing him to play is absolutely stupid.
Nope. He wasnt disqualified. He was asked to change the dress and he refused and they unpaired him in the last round. He had absolute freedom to come the next day and play the missing round as well. He withdrew due to ego issues and that is blatantly clear. Also, the rule itself is stupid i get it. But the enforcement was nothing wrong
I don't think that's the case. He could have ended the day on 6/9 and if he get 3.5 out of 4 on the final day he would still be up there. He also decided to withdraw from the Blitz as well. So I don't think it's about winning.
@riyaadrhoda3990 of course he withdrew from the entire event since he had disasterouse losses. His wining chances were nearly zero so he preferred to be remembered as someone who withdrew rather than not wining due to not wining. He preferred not to come as number 5 in the table score. That's it. He knew the rules Jean's rules and dress codes he could have change it. Don't tell me stories
@@BenOri-vg8le I totally disagree. He has at many occasions come back from similar positions in the past to win. He still had a decent chance to finish strong. If he withdrew from the rapid only I would probably agree with you. He is still the best player by far in blitz.
As he said, they have the right to enforce their rule. But also the rule is stupid.
Ya Rule are really stupid
Not even necessarily the rule itself. It's the fact they didn't allow him to play the round. He got fined and got a warning, that should've been it
And that why hes the GOAT....hes 5 steps ahead of all u screeching dress code. Its NOT about that ...if u LISTEN to him .....

Magnus can play today but he chose not to play . It is not like fide disqualified him as the video title is suggesting

drama queen.
Rules are rules set for all......he has attitude 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
If you are taking in serious then no otherwise yes
Yes rules are set for all and they should have taken action against Hans too for wearing jeans yesterday. This is fide's beef against magnus
FIDE, again is getting too big for their britches. It would be great to see players like Nakamura and others come to the tournament wearing jeans.
🤣
How stupid can FIDE be!?
Magnus become half mad😂 victim of own success
😂
