Max’s voice was so unique and very much needed...Without it, it’s throwing the whole harmony off. The other 3 sang around her bottom. Rhona or even Cindy for the matter, aren’t strong enough to replace Max’s bottom

It sounds to me that these vocals were done in advance (with Rhona) and they are singing to a track. Their mics are live so they can come in when they want with live vocals. But they are not singing these harmonies live. Mariah was the first person to do that I think back in the early 2000s when her voice began to fail on her. It is recorded in a way to make you think they are singing live, real time; since it doesn't sound like the original record; but in actuality, they are singing to a prerecorded track that they made before the show. That is actually very common. Janet Jackson does it as well for her live tour. I am not saying that they are totaling lip syncing. There are adding some live lics and ad libs. But this is a prerecorded track playing behind them.
