Fair play to Everton coming straight back after the major disappointment of losing the double to Liverpool and then seeing Lineker move to Barcelona. The 86 Everton team would be up there in terms of great teams who didn't win a trophy.
Adrian Heath exudes an incredible passion for playing ...just watch how he celebrates ALL the goals whether or not scored by him.He obviously loves his club, his team mates and FOOTBALL..just watch other player's reactions when their team mates score , the majority of the time there is NO visible reaction of joy, happiness and elation which proves what I once heard Danny Baker say on his radio show that it's only a MINORITY of footballers who really LOVE football ,they just see it as a job which is sad for fans who want their team to share their joy. Anyway enough waffle from me ..Adrian Heath was a FANTASTIC player, and Everton were a fantastic team, and I'm sure, still can be.
I can remember every one of those goals, Never missed a game home or away.,Brilliant team shook hands with each other after every goal! The squad players all did their part, Paul Power was the bargain buy...As was Clark Nevill Southall saved us 20 points!
Should have won it in 86 too, would have been 3 in a row. Still a great period for Everton just a shame they never got to play in the european Cup considering Steau Bucharest and PSV won it in the years they would have played you would have given them a real chance of winning one.
Fully agree Everton would have won the 1986 European Cup. The one thing I still cannot forgive Liverpool is that through their fans actions they denied the likes of Coventry, Wimbledon and Luton the chance to play in Europe and the sight of then winning the double a year after Heysel I still find offensive, the club should have been disbanded in my opinion.
How good were we in 87! Trevor Steven, Kevin Sheedy, Graeme Sharp and Adrian Heath were absolutely world class at scoring goals. Despite going to every game back then, I'd forgotten how good they were.
I was there that day aged thirteen got a coach over from North Wales, Mold. Ran home with 15 other blue mates down the road after getting off the coach, waving flags and cars beeping their horns at us - come back please.
My brother was going to the games back then. He had chosen to be an Evertonian when we moved from Scotland as kids and that was a tough choice given Liverpool were at their peak. Felt sorry for the kids from Evertonian families through most of my school days, coming in to get stick on a Monday morning. I didn't watch them much at this point but they were a great side. Sheedy was brilliant and even wee Heath - if there was a prize for winning penalties it would have been his. Sharp and Heath were the Toshack/Keegan tandem of the mid 80s. Heady days on Merseyside with Reds and Blues vying for top spot.
Manchester City fan here, you got a great signing in Paul Power then. Seeing the game against Manchester United in September is so sad. That poor little boy who was mascot. Bless him. RIP Jamie Baker xx
what a fantastic performance to win the title in 1986-7.when liverpool, arsenal, tottenham, nottingham forest and norwich city all looked like strong contenders.everton fell behind at the beginning, just like they did in 1984-5!

1987 was only 12 remember us being the best team and playing the best football how I miss those days and to think everyone of the Everton team was white greats days, hopefully we will get those days back but I honestly think till we get the right manager who will play the right style of football nothing is going to change getting beaten by Sheffield United what a joke Bournemouth aswell Aston Villa Silva has to go how he got the job in the first place I will never understand he has never won anything useless would even like to see Moyes getting the job again now that we have money if I'm not mistaken that's what we all said at the time if only he was given the money which I understand we didn't have at the time to buy the right players he would get us into that top 4 I'm sure anyways best wishes to all my fellow Everton brother and sisters take care and best wishes from Ireland and of course Come on Everton
Everton are without doubt English giants 9 league titles 5 FA Cups and a European Cup Winners Cup. Taking into consideration the fact that Everton have been league champions of the first division in the years before both world wars 1913/1914 and 1938/1939Therefore dismantling their excellent accumulation of 2 title winning teams and as history tells us a great side will continue to be a successful side at least for a period of time in their defence of their championship winning team. Evertons most prolific and of course statistically speaking Evertons most successful teams in the 80s under the great Howard Kendall were brutally disheartened by the news that they could not by rule of law, show the entirety of European football that they were indeed capable of beating and in fact were better than the so called giants of European football. Everton had dispatched the most feared team bayern Munich at goodison Park in a most illustrious manner and as for Liverpool the late Howard said if we can beat them then we can win and so we did!
Oh how the mighty have fallen , with awfull running of the club since 88 we are now just a mediocre bottom 6 side now having to sell our best players , just shows the genius of Howard Kendall at that time never mentioned amongst the greats like Ferguson, Busby, shankley Clough , paisley his spell from 84 to 88 was fantastic building two teams from nothing and along side the Liverpool team of the 80s

Good times to be an Evertonian - mind you, EFC and LFC were backed by the Moores family back then, so its little wonder both clubs were able to flourish, paying more for wages and transfer fees than everyone else.
