I saw this tour a few months later in Sacramento. The band was awesome for the most part. George is George and George is in my opinion a top 2-3 most influential guitar players of his era. Jeff was and still is the hardest working bass player in rock. Mick....well Mick is Mick and Mick is crazy and he's a perfect fit for this band. On the other hand, Don proves once again, a great voice when the studio can fix it and marginal at best live. I have met in person 3 of the 4. Pilson as cool in person and he seems on stage. SUPER laid back and humble. George, I met at a clinic. He spent 3 hours of a scheduled 1-hour appearance signing every autograph, taking every picture and spent time after the clinic talking and LEARNING from other players, what influenced them and why they play. THE HUMBLEST rock star I have ever met. Cliche' says "never meet your heroes". In George's case that can't be more from the truth. Don, when I met him at a signing was as stand offish and bothered that he was doing what he was doing. I love Don's studio vocals, I really do. Among my favorites from this era but what an A$$. #georgelynch #mescary #axelegend #humble
Met Don in 2016. Couldn't have been any nicer. Spent 30 minutes speaking to me and my son. Made sure we got a couple of autographed t shirts and pictures. I think time has made him appreciate his fans. Also met Jeff Pilson in 1999 . He was one funny sob sat right next to us at a bar and started talking to us like we had known each other for years.
Thanks for the vid. I saw the opening show for this concert at RFK in DC. Dokken was awesome. So were the Scorps. Liked your story about getting your mounting rod thru security. Very ingenious.
Jeff Pilson claimed that the biggest regret with this tour is that the band wasn't in best form or at the top of their game and that they were better during the previous tour. I think they sound pretty fuckin good. This is one of Don's better performances. George was awesome as usual. Sounds tight to me.
Yep. They were just about done touring for their Back For The Attack album, when mgt. talked them into doing this tour. They were burned out, and Dokken and Lynch completely loathed each other at this point. The band sadly broke up right after Monsters of Rock. Like a lot of posters say, they were probably one album away from being a name band like Motley Crue and Poison, but shit happens. Sadly, by the time they reunited, grunge had taken over, and most fans didn't care about them getting back together.
i saw them on this tour in LA - i was a big fan but honestly they didn't seem to cut through very well where I was sitting which was on the 50 yard line, front row in the stands, left side (right where the gates got busted down by Metalica fans). They didn't seem even close to being loud enough. Whatever the reason I wasn't impressed by the live performance, it was very weak compared to everyone else. I don;t know if Kingdom Come played or we were just late them not included. Metalica was also tough to follow which was part of it. I'm still a fan played the first 4 records a lot. This show seems pretty good. This is the first live performance recording I have heard/seen that is even decent IMO-- glad it's exists. The rocording quality is good enough.
@@1FeistyKitty we caught them in Houston on this tour. Don had a mini meltdown during their set, seems like they were having some monitor issues. He threw down his mic and stomped off stage for a bit. Bummer as it was the only time I got to see them. Other fun fact: Giant trash "fight" broke out later that afternoon and I was nearly hit in the face with a bottle of suntan lotion! It was at Rice Stadium and some people were throwing down those brown paper towel rolls from the upper deck, ouch!
Man I went to see Dokken (Under Lock and Key tour) open for Judas Priest on the Fuel for Life "TURBO" tour in 1986 but Dokken cancelled because Don got sick. Man that sucked. Judas rocked though. We had a convoy of about 20 cars and drove 2 hours one way from Carlsbad NM to Odessa TX to see them.
But.... how could you possibly “forget” how good he was when younger? You haven’t seem to forgotten how good the Scorpions were. That’s like saying you forgot what it’s like to be home after being away for a while.
I didn't know about that but I recently learned he did vox on a few songs (recordings) in the studio to assist the band while Klaus was recovering from vocal chord surgery for which Don' says we will never hear - maybe they will release them some day - would be fun to hear.
Saw MOR at the Silverdome, 2nd row. Crazy show, Scorps were so loud. Dokken kicked it hard, Mick Brown was out of his mind. So was George Lynch. The lead singer from Kingdom Come, wherever he went everyone flipped him off, pretty humorous. They weren't bad, James Kottak on drums. Metallica was raw and superheavy. My left ear was probably permanently damaged from that day. Missed VH to go see Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea at Pine Knob. Thanks for the upload!
That can't do many shows because Don is TERRIBLE now. HE had surgery and has lost the top 1 - 2 octaves of notes (which is every song they recorded). He's fat, stands there looking lost, and kind of scats through the lyrics with a scratchy low voice. George has done a little playing with them, but it's just depressing. Lynch is still great, as is Pilson, but it's just depressing to watch.
Great show. This how a rock band should look on stage. Bassist Jeff Pilsen rocking 7 svt 8 x10 cabs & one looks like a 1 4x10 cab George with 5 full Marshall stacks & 2 half stacks..lots of energy nobody staring at their dirty sneakers playing through combo amps. Not saying they’re using all of it but it looks cool as hell. I’ve talked to Jeff & drummer Mick Brown a couple times. Very down to earth cool dudes. I remember this show in my back yard in Buffalo New York.
Wow, I saw this tour, with Van Halen headlining. Oxford Plains Speedway, Maine, cold, rainy day. Metallica was amazing. Dokken was great. Scorpions awesome. Good times!
a bunch of us were at this concert kingdom come , metallica , dokken , scorpions , van halen it was ok i still got the t shirt i was 5 rows out on eddies side of the stage it was very hot that day the guy beside me passed out twice and had to be passed to the front we were all hungover from the night before partying i dont know how we all made it through the day/night thanx for posting Scott
I remember, I was supposed to go to this show and couldn’t come up with the money. I later saw Dokken open for Aerosmith at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto Canada.. I have that same guitar that George is playing here. I took the ESP LTD. 600ST Sunburst Tiger, took the neck off and put an ESP Banana headstock neck on just like George had on his early model shown here.
I never understood why with the cash involved in this tour why a Pro-Shot film production wasn't employed for at least a few select shows, pick the best performances for a future release.
I saw this tour at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. with my dad and uncle. It was incredible. Dokken didn't impress me so much as Metallica did or Scorps .... but Van Halen killed it. Amazing footage and a throwback to my metal teenage years. Ty for upload.
Looks like Eddie Van Halen, his brother Al, Valerie, and Al's wife at the far left of the stage watching the show. Al has the vest, Valerie a long coat.
Cool notice! IF you have the VH brothers (WITH Valerie) watching your live set? THAT IS something, RIGHT THERE, NOW! Wonder IF they knew TOO, that ALL DOKKEN band members were being LET GO, AFTER THIS tour?....So DON DOKKEN could put together a WHOLE NEW BAND..... 😕 TRUTH.......
I saw This tour i was 21 years old and Saw them@ the LA coliseum LA CA July 1988 dokken was beyond awesome 👍👍👍👍 but rhe scorpions stole the show 💯 just like they dud@ the Us festival 83 👍👍👍
You feel sorry for the kids today. Yeah, they are gonna outlive us. But we got Van Halen and they get Drake. Doesn't seem quite fair. I'll take it though. It was a blast! I've seen Dokken twice. Once as openers for Judas Priest and the 1988 Monsters of Rock at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. 80k in attendance. Love watching George Lynch shred. Love it!
I agree Sweetie, but maybe it's better that WE were fortunate enough to experience it? Let's go back to1986 just for a weekend PLZ !! Everything is on me, it'll be my treat. :0)
I was at this show right on the barricade om front of George. Got there early so we could hit that spot. The security guard in front of us was cool as he kept filling our canteens for us. Kingdom Come was kinda boring. Metallica made their intentions known of taking over the world. Dokken sounded rockin, but you could see the writing on the wall that this band was not feeling it with each other. The Scorpions were good, but I was kinda burnt on them as I had seen them 4 times in the past year. Rudy threw his guitar in the air and misses catching it, and it nearly skidded of the stage. hahaha Van Halen was a lot of fun. I enjoyed this show more than the 5150 tour and equally as much as the 1984 tour.
I dont think Metallica shouldve been on this. Their promotors were being paid up the ASS and threw them into many spots they didnt fit with. It shouldve just been ROCK
I had the awesome pleasure in my 20's to see this tour in Alpine Valley, East Troy, Wisconsin. I remember getting trashed up on top the hill while Metallica was opening up for this concert. OMG!!!!!!!!! Great times!!!! My cousins in Milwaukee got to see Don Dokken in person as he was touring the bars in Milwaukee the night before the concert
In an interview with Don he was not happy about doing the monsters of Rock tour because they just came off of a 14 month tour. They we're burned out from the drugs and they he didn't want to follow Metallica.
This is so cool to see. I was 16 years old when I was at this show. I remember it being ridiculously hot that day and the security guys up front brought out fire hoses and doused us up front between bands. It's good to see the bands sounded as good as I remember.
I will always be rockin with Dokken. I saw this show in DC at RFK stadium and it was absolutely the greatest concert ever with Kingdom Come and the Scorpions and Metallica and of course Van Halen
Thank you so much for Posting this! I wish I was at this. I saw the commercials on TV but my mom knew I was too young lol. 10 at the time haha. I loved Metallica but whichever promter put them on this were idiots. Took away from how fun Glam was. Dokken rocks foreva!!!
YOU SAID THAT BROTHER Everything nowadays sounds overly processed aka FAKE, especially that thin hollow weak sounding snare, Only a small handful of drummers maintained that big drum sound of the 70s and 80s into the 90s Alex Van Halen, Neil Peart and Great Whites Audie Desbrow and maybe a couple of others
Quite possibly my all time favourite performance of Dokkens If I remember correctly they shared this stage with Van Halen, Scorpions, and Metallica where they absolutely gave all of them a run for their money.
I saw thie concert when it came to Spokane, WA on July 20th, at Joe Albi Stadium, and it was my first major rock concert I'd been to. Dokken was good, although you could tell that they were not getting along too well, especially Don and George, as they would avoid being near each other during their set. Also, when George did his guitar solo, he had his back turned towards the crowd the entire time, but other than that, they sounded good. Metallica was on fire, and they blew an amp on stage, which went up in smoke, hehehe!!! Scorpions kicked ass as usual, and Van Halen rocked the place! I didn't realize they were hiring extra people afterwards to help with dismantling the stage, load out, etc, and they paid you with a free t-shirt and around $100, or so. Best concert ever!!
Dokken is solid. I used to talk to Jeff Pillson at LA Fitness, Van Nuys, circa 1996, but didn't put 2 + 2 together. We talked football, and he's a Packers fan. I used to know his wife Ravinder, from LA fitness Sherman Oaks. LA life, what can I say. And I used to talk to Rudy Sarzo at LA Fitness, Sherman Oaks, circa 1994, and didn't put 2+2 together. We had long philosophical talks about Cuba. U know he's Cuban?
Van Halen Scorpions Dokken Kingdom Come....I wish I could’ve been @ one of these shows monsters of rock 88. Unfortunately I was only 10 years old and no concerts till I turn 13.
I saw this Monsters of Rock tour at Giants Stadium in NJ. Across the Hudson River from Manhattan. I went strictly to see Metallica back then. AJFA hadn't even come out yet. MOP was their latest release. Scorpions were good too! VH with Hagar I could take or leave back then. Hagar being in VH was still a new and strange thing for me in 88. But I'll always respect Eddie of course. Back in 1988 I felt like Dokken was soft and bubble-gum rock. I never got into them. But looking back on it.....all those bands on that tour are awesome. Including Kingdom Come...whom played first. You don't know what you got until it's all gone! I wish I could turn back time. I was 21 at this concert.i miss the 80's so much. Peace.
Seen them on this tour Indianapolis, IN. 16-17 Yrs old. Was my favorite band through Jr. High and HS. I remember standing outside in a very LONG LINE with my BF to buy tickets.😂
Damn I wish I could somehow zoom in on the crowd. I was at this show and went down to the floor for Dokken. I was 17 and afraid of getting crushed near the front during this set.
I saw this show in Florida in the Orange Bowl man it was a great time I think I remember they opened with In my Dreams and God must have been listening because all of a sudden the heavens opened up and it started to rain just like in the video awesome
I was at the Miami MOR. I'll say one thing Van Halen took a chance of getting upstaged, but IMO in Miami, VH had the best set. The crowd sounds amazing in Buffalo. Lynch is on fire like in Miami.
Went to the 06/25/88 show in Oxford, ME. pouring rain. Only saw 4 Scorps songs, and left before VH's shortened set. We were freezing. Metallica was crazy good.

Thanks for posting this!!! I was 15 & would’ve sold my soul to see this tour!!!
Was the same age, another year older and I was there😭
I saw this tour a few months later in Sacramento.
Can confirm. Saw them open for Aerosmith in 1987 and they were better.
Mick is spot on also
TODAY IS DONS 70th BIRTHDAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY DON WE LOVE YOU AND WILL ALWAYS SUPPORT U NO MATTER WHAT😊
*Thanks man! Nice to see something else besides the Philadelphia show opening for Aerosmith.*
One regret I have from my younger years was not getting to see them original 4 of Dokken in concert.
i was right in front of goerge here
Saw them warm up for Aerosmith outdoors in Minneapolis. Killer
Seeing the later stuff, I forgot how good this guy could sing. No wonder the Scorpions had him doing backing vocals on their albums.
But.... how could you possibly “forget” how good he was when younger? You haven’t seem to forgotten how good the Scorpions were. That’s like saying you forgot what it’s like to be home after being away for a while.
I didn't know about that but I recently learned he did vox on a few songs (recordings) in the studio to assist the band while Klaus was recovering from vocal chord surgery for which Don' says we will never hear - maybe they will release them some day - would be fun to hear.
What album did Don sing with scorpion?
Saw MOR at the Silverdome, 2nd row. Crazy show, Scorps were so loud. Dokken kicked it hard, Mick Brown was out of his mind. So was George Lynch. The lead singer from Kingdom Come, wherever he went everyone flipped him off, pretty humorous. They weren't bad, James Kottak on drums. Metallica was raw and superheavy. My left ear was probably permanently damaged from that day. Missed VH to go see Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea at Pine Knob. Thanks for the upload!
Silverdome was a great place for big shows. I was up close for Metallica/Guns/Faith show. Love Pine Knob too.
Toilet paper fight first night
Total Awesome!!! Definitely Rockin with DOKKEN!!!!!!!!
I was there. Had a great time all day! Thanks for uploading this William.
I always respected Dokken, but now that I see the bassist is playing Moog pedals with keys I really like them.
awesome man. saw them on this tour but in the european monsters tour with deep purple headlining in Stuttgart germany. thanks for taking us back !
This band was so tight, one of the tightest of that era too. Sad that they don't get along now and thus can't do the oldies circuit.
They’ve done multiple shows in the last 2 years.
So true! The tightness totally came from Mick and Jeff. Mick, especially. What a beast. Best drummer of the 80's.
@@bigdaddycool4242 Its bad though, you can see they are not getting along and it is reflected in the music they are performing.
Good times!
I quit my job to go to that show at Oxford Plains. Great choice. Made some great memories that day. Killer show.
I was there as well. Great show considering the damned downpours with thunder and lightning.
They sound great, especially Don.
the 80s were something else. I couldn't tell you how much Id wish I was alive to say how good it was.
Born in 1970 being a kid in the 70’s and a teen in the 80’s and in my 20’s in the 1990’s was all great..
I can't thank you enough for posting this. I was there!! I was just coming out of my sophmore year of high school at Greece Olympia.
a bunch of us were at this concert kingdom come , metallica , dokken , scorpions , van halen it was ok i still got the t shirt i was 5 rows out on eddies side of the stage it was very hot that day the guy beside me passed out twice and had to be passed to the front we were all hungover from the night before partying i dont know how we all made it through the day/night thanx for posting Scott
I never understood why with the cash involved in this tour why a Pro-Shot film production wasn't employed for at least a few select shows, pick the best performances for a future release.
ikr
I saw this tour at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. with my dad and uncle. It was incredible. Dokken didn't impress me so much as Metallica did or Scorps .... but Van Halen killed it. Amazing footage and a throwback to my metal teenage years. Ty for upload.
good camera instincts, you pulled back to reveal the enormity of the crowd while they were chanting
Who is still rockin with Dokken in 2023?
Still do
I just aw them with Lynch a few months ago in Oklahoma , I remember getting Under Lock and Key in High school in the 80's on cassette , wore it out
I got tooth and nail album that was a killer , George knew his old band Exciter wasn’t going anywhere so he came at the right time with Dokken .
Ill do it for a lifetime
I saw these guys two nights in a row in London supporting AC/DC around this time. The best times.
Looks like Eddie Van Halen, his brother Al, Valerie, and Al's wife at the far left of the stage watching the show. Al has the vest, Valerie a long coat.
RIP Eddie
Looks to me like Alex on the far left with three chicks. Where's Eddie, unless he was wearing a skirt?
Was thinking the same thing.
EVH loaned Lynch a bit of equipment on this tour. They had a much closer relationship than I knew at the time.
Love it!
Well these kids dont know any better, its what has been pushed exclusively the past 25+ years and that is a shame.
Thank you guys for saying that. Im fully against Rap and its just PUSHED on people. Its fuckin bullshit
Could not agree more I wish I had the chance to see my favorite bands like Dokken, Whitesnake, quiet riot, mötley crüe, KISS, Ratt and Twisted sister.
Sad they have killed rock n roll with all their black rap crap.. Music is nothing like this anymore. These were the days of my life! I miss this!!
You are 100 % correct Headbangers ball !
I agree Sweetie, but maybe it's better that WE were fortunate enough to experience it? Let's go back to1986 just for a weekend PLZ !! Everything is on me, it'll be my treat. :0)
Ain't that that the truth. I was 23 then, the music and culture was way better!
Don't be such a Karen and just enjoy the music.
@Zizzi's Genetics Go away
Metallica and Dokken had the same management. QPrime. $$$$
Saw Dokken open for Loverboy 8/13/86 in Greenville S.C. on the under lock and key tour.
I was at this show one of greatest concerts I've ever been to kingdom come dokken Metallica scorpions and van Halen
$25 where I saw it. Legend show from all the bands. Memories.
I wish drums sounded like that today, you never hear this pounding any more :(
YOU SAID THAT BROTHER Everything nowadays sounds overly processed aka FAKE, especially that thin hollow weak sounding snare, Only a small handful of drummers maintained that big drum sound of the 70s and 80s into the 90s Alex Van Halen, Neil Peart and Great Whites Audie Desbrow and maybe a couple of others
yep, mostly triggered/compressed digital bullshit today
Aldridge is still a God full of energy the best.
Go to a fuckin Steel Panther or Airbourne show, there's no difference, all of this is coming back
Was there. Left before Van Hagar. Thanks for sharing!
Pilson is a work horse~ excellent background vocal as well
I saw the Monsters of Rock show in the Meadowlands in New Jersey……..awesome show.
Quite possibly my all time favourite performance of Dokkens
If I remember correctly they shared this stage with Van Halen, Scorpions, and Metallica where they absolutely gave all of them a run for their money.
Rock on people, I was there 16 years old.. Hot as hell day and it was father's day good time.
That's awesome
Yes it was, I recall it clearly.
saw this tour in Miami. There was a storm while Dokken played, it was pretty cool because they were playing Lightning Strikes
I was there too I thought it was storming while they played In my Dreams Idk I could be wrong but it was a great show anyway
@@edwardleonetti2492 was storming for a couple songs. i was on the field rain got really hard we had to seek cover under
I saw thie concert when it came to Spokane, WA on July 20th, at Joe Albi Stadium, and it was my first major rock concert I'd been to.
Unfortunately I was only 10 years old and no concerts till I turn 13.
todd long I cannot believe I forgot Metallica FML good looking out and believe me shame on me.
uma das melhores bandas dos anos 80!! 🤘🏼
Thanks for posting this!!
Peace.
Wliiam G, thank you for uploading this concert!
❤😂モンスターズオブロック🎉当時見たくてしょうがなかったライブです✨貴重映像ありがとうございました😊
Seen them on this tour Indianapolis, IN. 16-17 Yrs old. Was my favorite band through Jr. High and HS. I remember standing outside in a very LONG LINE with my BF to buy tickets.😂
Was at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. Think it was a great show !!!! The entire 65,000 seat stadium, one giant party.
Saw the same show, but in Denver CO at Mile High.....in July !!!!!!!!
Good times !
Damn I wish I could somehow zoom in on the crowd. I was at this show and went down to the floor for Dokken. I was 17 and afraid of getting crushed near the front during this set.
Who’s still loves this in 2022??
I saw this show in Florida in the Orange Bowl man it was a great time I think I remember they opened with In my Dreams and God must have been listening because all of a sudden the heavens opened up and it started to rain just like in the video awesome
Awesome! Was there for this that year @ Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Miss those days.
Me too... and it was HOT!
I was there as a 17-year-old kid. The 80s were the greatest!
I was a 23 year old kid at this show!
I was 24, lol...great times am i right?... I saw the show again a few weeks later at a different venue.
18:36 amazing high note by Jeff!!! He was an awesome singer and songwriter
I was at this show!!!
Me too.Hot summer day. Metallica crushed.
Saw this at Akron Rubber Bowl, senior summer!
I remember this time......that orange and purple Tiger guitar was sounding real good 🤘
I was at the “Candlestick “ in San Francisco for this concert. I was so wasted,I don’t remember any of it 🎶🎵🙆🏻♂️
I was at the Pontiac Silverdome.(Detroit).88.. Kingdom Come, Dokken, Metallica, scorpions, van Hagar..
I'm here for George Lynch solos. Just amazing phrasing, speed and all around tone to everything. Lynch at his most prime here.
Thanks for posting this .
Wild Mick Brown on drums ladies and gentlemen
What I would do to go back to 1980-89.
I was at the Miami MOR. I'll say one thing Van Halen took a chance of getting upstaged, but IMO in Miami, VH had the best set. The crowd sounds amazing in Buffalo. Lynch is on fire like in Miami.
I was there! George Lynch side.....row 3-6 depending on how the crowd pushed! lol
Went to the 06/25/88 show in Oxford, ME. pouring rain. Only saw 4 Scorps songs, and left before VH's shortened set. We were freezing. Metallica was crazy good.
