This video really reminded me of something that I love about your channel in that despite this experience obviously being a dream come true, you never display it as idyllic or without a sense of the real hard work that is necessary to be where you are. It is not a ‘vacationized’ version of your life for the sake of the audience, and that’s really valuable and refreshing! Sunday mornings are always made better when you have a new one out :)

That shot of Jesse and Pancake walking down a path, that was then shown flooded, wow! What an amazing shot. You really get a sense of the immense amount of water a typhoon brings. I live in a coastal area on quite high cliffs, so though it gets very very windy, I've never had to worry about flooding before. Now I've got a new fear!

I would expect your re-introduction every episode to be tedious or annoying, but instead it's oddly comforting and relaxing to hear such a similar intro each time. It's definitely a vibe.

Once again you captured the natural beauty of the crows and the clouds before the storm. Loved all the details of the prep required to ride out the storm, and the beautiful birds on the wire and flowers at the end. Pancake seemed to be a great supervisor of all the preparations. Thanks again for sharing it with us.❤️

I know you may love the charm of the old Akiya houses, but perhaps when you find you're new home, you should select a completely collapsed residence on high ground. Once the debris has been cleared, you could build a Monolithic Dome with hurricane rated windows?

Hey, Mika and Jesse. Greetings from Brasil. Love your videos, I've been watching them for some time now. Something caught my eye in this one. At 6:24, that little insect, I can't see if it's green, like if it has a green leaf mimicking trait, or if it is a common grasshopper. When they are green or look like a leaf, here in Brasil we call them "esperança" (hope), it's often considered a good omen. Just thought you would like to know!

Your home is so cute. The Japanese countryside is so beautiful.
I live in Northern Michigan we get some bad lake effect weather at times. We live out in the countryside and our nearest town in two directions is about 15 minutes drive. So we usually keep water on hand in case of an outage. We sometimes get a little flooding in spring and summer (nothing close to what you get). We have propane heat but also wood heat which comes in handy when there is an outage during winter. Sometimes I wish I had an old fashioned indoor water handpump then I wouldn't have to worry about water.

I was stuck at the Busan airport, for hours, about 20 or so years ago, when a typhoon tore apart the shoreline and smashed ships up. Truly terrifying. When we finally got a pick-up from a brave JAL pilot, being in a bucking plane for two hours was no fun.
Glad all of you are safe.

Nice one! again 😄 I wonder how crowded it must have been with all outside stuff brought in. I’ve never experienced a typhoon, the pictures were very educational…like, whoa! You must have spent some time thinking about how much effort to put into reducing the next typhoon prep effort (eg railings for those outside panels).Tough balance when you’re looking for a new place. I also thought about that whole “enforced idleness” around waiting it out - it’s probably good to be reminded now and then that we don’t actually control everything in our lives, and that just accepting that is a good exercise. The only similar thing I can think of here in Canada might be a big snowstorm. Anyway, thanks again and take care over there.

I can understand why people living in days of yore, would need to be able to slide storm shutters out quickly. Before accurate weather forecasting, they would have had very little warning, and would have looked to animal behaviour/the skies/granny's aching toe to tell them to hunker down, so time was off the essence!
