  • It is surprising that this great song isn't played more often. I was inspired by the great version by Dave McKenna on his Maybeck Hall solo piano CD. See • Dave McKenna Plays the... 29:10 for another version by him.
I used the basic leadsheet in Sher Music's 'Standards Real Book' (pages 557 -558), and did some minimal reharmonising.
There are 2 transcriptions - one exactly as seen on the video, and the other is a much clearer version. There is a sample of the first page of this transcription on my website free to download.
I will put both full transcriptions on my DVD, and the printable transcriptions can be bought together for just $1.20. www.bushgrafts....
The video, and midi file are free to download on my website at www.bushgrafts.com

Thanks so much for this Dog. I loved the turn around between choruses. I've used something similar (those cycle of 5ths) in the 2nd half of the bridge in Penthouse Serenade. I get lots of ideas from both watching you play and your annotations. It is so wonderful that you share your talent with us.

Great song Doug. There is a sad sort of video going around on Facebook of an elderly gentleman singing this to his dying wife, but expressing his love for her through "their song"..

I know I'm a new subscriber, AND i absolutely LOVE almost all of you Jazz song recordings, but as a singer I want to PLEAD WITH YOU ON MY BENDED KNEES...DO THE INTROS!!! Songs Like ALL WE KNOW, NIGHTINGALE SANG IN BARKLEY SQUARE, BLAME IT ON MY YOUTH, BUT NOT FOR ME, LITTLE GIRL BLUE, ETC. SONGS like Hang My Tears Out To Dry, like others where you absolutely DO INCLUDE the INTRO are ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. i USE THEM NOT ONLY TO PRACTICE MY PITSH AND INTONATION, BUT YOUR SUBTLE PHRASING MAKES IT EASIER TO SING WITH OTHER MUSICIANS instead of me making them match my pheasing, THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME A BETTER SINGER

Hi Doug - Great work. It`s such a treat to be able to watch you play while listing. To that end - it would be great if there was a tad ( a lot actually) more volume to enjoy the songs with. I know they aren`t for listening per se but.. Living in Sapporo, Japan, your videos are my anytime, anyplace Piano bar. You might even think about monetizing something like that as a service - Can`t hire a piano player for you event - play/buy/ stream my amazing videos.
While I play piano, I am still a few years from being able to pull off anything like what you do in your videos, but I am starting to understand more and more how Jazz works. Even non-piano playing my friends and family have enjoyed the videos.
Looking forward to your next offering!
    Jeff
