I completely agree with you. Cabin location makes or breaks a cruise! I don't care how much people say they don't spend time in their cabins. You sleep and relax there! I always look at deck plans before I book a cabin. I also book a cabin as close to the front or back of the ship and as high a deck as possible.

We always book as far to the front as possible with the five side rule for quiet and also being lulled to sleep with the motion of the ship but we're a little weird because we love the wavy weather;)

I wish I had the luxury to do this haha. I don’t have a lot of disposable income, so the only way I can afford to cruise usually is to do the “guaranteed interior” and hope for the best. I’ve gotten very lucky with some nice cabins but always bring earplugs. My neighbors at my apartment at home are extremely noisy and annoying 24/7/365, and there’s always lots of banging and annoying kids and loud music, so being on a cruise - even with all those things - would still be awesome for me because at least I’d be on a cruise! 😂

I also wish I had the luxury to do this. I have a family of 5, and booked a family cabin on Princess. Unfortunately, our suite was the first bow cabin. It was "okay" until the last night when we hit rougher seas. Just a little disappointed that a large, 2 room suite would be in such an undesirable location.

Must be nice to be able to afford the higher fare to get the choice.
We got a deck 5 cabin last time, and it was fine, apart from the throbbing of the engines as soon as I put my head on the pillow, and the staff slamming trolleys against the wall behind the bedhead. P&O were great about it and moved us to deck 14.

I don't know if that always works out. We just returned from a 14 day cruise in a balcony cabin surrounded on 5 sides with guest rooms. That did not stop whoever was staying above us from flushing the toilet all night long and making terrible noises from 6am on each morning. It really sounded like they were throwing boulders around every morning for at least 2 hours each morning

Everyone is fine to have their own opinion. In my mind, I'll take the worst cabin on the best boat before i take the best cabin on a crappy boat. I really like being on a massive and magnificent ship. The smaller the boat, the more likely i am to get motion sickness too. But I'm a HEAVY sleeper, i never wake up from random noises.

I leant a few things differently about cruising (for myself): I am WAY more tolerant of crew noise; less for passenger noise. So trolleys are fine, neighbour cabin noise is not. Also with dead end hallways: you think it's a good idea, but if there are any kids in your zone, they will typically RUN full speed to reach their cabin... so you will hear those booming runs from tiny/not so tiny feet! Most important - know yourself!

Tbh, I find being either at the front or back (preferably wit a dead end) + having cabins above and below you even better. That way you don't have that much walking traffic. If you're in the middle of the ship chances are high you are very close to the main elevators and therefore you'll have a lot of people walking past your door all the time.
Also make sure you're not on the side with a water slide right above you (even if you're a couple decks below) and water pipes running along your balcony. I met sbd on my last cruise who was sitting at my dinner table and she had issues with water constantly poring down a pipe on her balcony 24/7. She couldn't even use, nor open her balcony door because it was so loud. Very annoying! At least she got a new stateroom on the second half of our cruise (the first part was completely booked out). I think she didn't even got a partial refund or whatever. So she paid premium for a balcony that she couldn't even use for half of her almost 3 week long cruise.
On that particular cruise I was almost all the way at the front (also balcony) like two decks above the theater and two below the promenade and it was super nice and quiet. Sure, you'll feel the waives a bit more, but I don't mind that at all.

@@conniebruinsma5681 When it comes to Europe I would rather take my car and use ferries, choosing my own itinerary, accommodation, places of interest to visit, restaurants and entertainment.
You can take ferries from the UK to the Netherlands, France, Northern Ireland, Eire and Spain. There are also ferries from Ireland to France and Spain to cruise the north-western Atlantic.
There are ferries from Denmark to the Faroes and Iceland. From the Scotland to the Outer Hebrides, Orkneys and Shetland for the North Atlantic.
For the Baltic there are ferries from Denmark to Norway and Sweden, from Germany to Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Baltics. From Poland to Sweden and Finland. From Sweden to Finland and the Baltics. From Finland to Estonia.

For the west Atlantic there are ferries from Spain to the Canaries and from Portugal to Madeira.
For the Black Sea there is even a ferry from Bulgaria to Georgia.
If you want to cruise the the Norwegian fjords there is even the Hurtigen ferry that goes the length of Norway with multiple stops.
Many of these ferries can be taken during the day or overnight with a cabin. Many ferry crossings are often longer than 24 hours and include either one or two nights with cabin. I have done many of there ferry crossings and have always found the accommodation clean, comfortable and fit for purpose. Food is acceptable to good with lots of deck space and lounges. I also take onboard my own food and drink and entertainment. Many ferries use easy to access small port towns, although many go direct to major city centres. Did you know you can take a ferry into Venice? I believe cruise ships are now banned from Venice. I could suggest many great itineraries for you that would easily surpass anything a cruise line could offer.
