- We're off to the Weston Park classic car show 2024, on Easter Sunday in March, for this epic Old Classic Car video. It's been a while since I last uploaded a lengthy classic cars walkaround video so please forgive me for the duration of this one, but split into several sittings it should be manageable :-)
The weather leading up to the Weston Park 2024 classic car show had been less than brilliant, with flooded fields and roads all around being the order of the day for weeks leading up to this event. It was a two-day show, held on Easter Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday 2024. The forecast for the latter was quite poor, with Sunday looking a lot more favourable so that's the day we opted to pop along to see what would turn up. I was surprised just how many classic cars and other vehicles turned up (perhaps because most were pre-booked already?), and video-ing the extensive queues of cars rolling towards the showground reminded me greatly of the same show in 2023.
Many classic, modern-classic and retro cars turned up, and as always I've tried to include a bit of everything while prioritising the slightly older cars in the main.
We took our MX-5 in the hope that it would cope ok with any boggy conditions that we might encounter in the car display area. We arrived early and already many cars were struggling with grip on the sodden ground, we managed to maintain momentum up the gradual slope to the sports cars section and slithered into position, grateful to have made it with minimal wheelspin and pointing downhill in the direction of Weston Park hall itself in readiness for a smooth departure later in the day. I don't think the V8 Pilot would have fared too well on the same ground (although we wouldn't have needed to travel quite so far up the display field in that one).
Many fascinating exhibiting vehicles turned up, including a rare Simca Aronde coupe, Mercedes van, two Mk1 Lotus Cortinas, two A40 Mk1s, many MGBs and Triumph TRs of various flavours, a pair of Standard 10s, FIAT Gamine, Mazda 929 estate, two Citroen Traction Avants, a selection of pre- and post-war Rovers plus many many more - hence the size of this video!

Interesting contrast between the side by side arrival of the Camaro and Austin 7. It would be an agonising choice which to take home. I trust the Youthful Assistant was sent to his room to write 100 times "I must not confuse Notek and Wipac spot lights". 😄
Ha he pulls my leg as much as I pull his, usually over JDM or supercar identifications which I usually get wrong :)

Bit too precious about my classic and don’t relish covering the underside with wet mud. I don’t have the facilities to clean the underneath. I will have to do a through weather check before venturing to my booked show grounds this year

Ref the Triumph Heralds at this show. One ever sees a Triumph Herald COUPE, WHICH WERE A 2 seater and had the lifting handle on the bonnet. I remember seeing one in 1958 parked near my prep school in Deganwy

Hi 👋 Excellent car show. The grey Standard 10 is exactly the same as my grandfather had . I bought those Observer books like yours. You have kept your copy. I would buy the British Daily Mail car magazines too. They displayed world cars in them new on the market in the 1970s. The building in the background is amazing . I could spend all day looking at that. We don't have anything like that here in New Zealand. Enjoyed your video and commentary. From Carl.

@@oldclassiccarUK ps - now viewing the second half of your video and got to the bit where you have your mx5 boot open. Comparing to mine, have you decided on an extra large battery which requires the moving of the spare wheel? Looks very different to mine - just curious.

@@oldclassiccarUK Unfortunately these videos, although interesting, are now far too long for me to watch anymore, also now it seems on a Saturday evening when I am doing my books. You must have lots of spare time or be retired............
@@richardsealey3626 Hi, if you read my previous community posts, this one was uploaded Saturday evening as opposed to the usual Sunday timeslot due to it being somewhat longer than most uploads on here. You can still watch on a Sunday morning as usual, but if this one's a bit too long for you then just skip it until something shorter comes along (like next weekend's). Thanks for looking in.

I worked on the BL junk in the 70-90s, terrible, all of it, to have that stuff restored just does not make sense, its like putting new windscreen wipers on with a smashed screen LOL.

There is no comparison, the BMW V12 is far superior.................
They're both excellent V12s tbh, Jaguar's was designed back in the 1960s whereas BMWs is much newer and has a lot more tech

I'll do my best but we don't often encounter Devons, Dorsets or Somersets, but I'll bear that in mind!
The 1935 10hp Lanchester has the angled side window hoods similar to a Mulliner-bodied Daimler 15 of the same year.
I remember my parents booking a cab in the early fifties to take us to the railway station during our summer holidays (Norwich Thorpe) and it was always a V8 Pilot. As an excited passenger I was amazed at the quietness and refinement of the flat head engine compared with the smoking noisy cars of british origin, and a great shame when they were phased out to make way for inferior models. Also, the microphone of that irritating commentator should have been unplugged and used for anothe purpose.........
