- I made a trip back to where i grew up, Detroit. In this episode i am exploring my first abandoned building. Detroit is such an amazing city and i cant wait to film more there.
We have all discovered the round basins were hand washing stations just so everyone knows and doesn’t keep commenting on it 😊
They had those in the Mercedes Superdome in New Orleans. I don't know if they still do as I haven't been there is over 10 years.

i’ve been in there before. the energy in that building is unreal. i love detroit i pray it gets better

I also grew up in Detroit, and I remember when these structures were still in use. Coming back in 2020 has been a very interesting and eerie feeling as the world deals with a pandemic which actually feels a bit apocalyptic at times. Detroit is evolving into a new, different place. That is fun to see, but also there are so many places I knew as a child that are simply gone or so dilapidated, it defies logic!!

that old round wheel looking tub thing I Think is one of those round sinks used to wash your hands where a bunch of ppl could use it at one time they usually have a bar underneath to step on to turn the water on

I worked at Oldsmobile in Lansing Mi. as Skilled Trades Machine Repair/Machinist. There was a Fisher plant here also that I have been in. I'm quite sure the round object you asked about is a hand wash station. We had them too.
Yeah I figured that out. My dad was an engineer for Ford Chrysler and am general. He invented the army hummer so cars are definitely in the family having grown up in Detroit
This plant had multiple uses in the 60’s And 70’s. It was where the lo
Iimo bodies were made by modifying standard Cadillac bodies. It was also used as a pilot line for final assembly of new products prior to production runs. They also made welding guns. There was also a trim repair facility and repair parts shop.
Wow thanks I figured it was used for multiple things at different times as they often repurpose these factory’s in time of war.
The music sounds a little like a Vangelis song from Blade Runner. Just an FYI. Also, I see some people commented on the "Wheel" you discovered. It is for washing hands, also most of those have a round metal tube near the floor that fits around the wash basin so workers can step on the tube to turn on the water instead of turning a faucet with hands that may be greasy.
My pal and I retired and took a road trip to The Henery Ford from Maine,We thought a lot of Detroit,seems to be on the rebound.Took a ride to Piquett St to see Fords Model T plant,saw this huge building up the street and did not know its history so now we do,do some more tours of Detroit plants,very interesting. Lets not forget Detroit made our country great back in the day ,Regards
I will absolutely be back to Detroit. My family and Detroit go back many generations. I grew up there my parents did and so don my grandparents on my moms side. On my dads side he moved to Detroit to work as an engineer at Chrysler the. Am general (gm military division) where he designed the original hummer) the. He worked at ford headquarters before quitting and going insane. I love Detroit and my parents remember Detroit rising to its peek in the 60s and how great it was. Sadly I was born when Detroit was already destroyed. However since moving to Ohio in 2016 Detroit has been making huge improvements and I can’t wait to document it and share it with the world. Thanks for supporting my work. Glad people are finally seeing Detroit for what it is. A great city not just ghetto.
Very cool. This is one of abandoned buildings that I actually really enjoy exploring. Although it has been at least 10-15 years since I have. There is a room that sits on the top floor that is not particularly large but it is clean. Yeah the stairs are scary
12:17 Those resemble wash basins designed for multiple people to wash their hands. Something similar was installed at my grade school in the late 60s/early 70s. You depressed a bar close to the floor with your foot to dispense the water. I can't say for sure though.

Man you have a great eye...the little details, the smooth camera moves, I appreciate it. I just moved to Detroit from Seattle. Drove past this gem that's infamous in the urbex world, and I was shocked how wide open it is, no fences or trespassing signs anywhere! I can't wait to get in there on my next day off!
Grew up in the Detroit suburbs and I miss it sooo much. At least Cincinnati isn’t too far and I can make day trips. Yes you will soon learn that you can freely explore abandoned places throughout Detroit and rarely if ever get stoped or harassed. It’s amazing.
You are lucky to be living in Michigan it’s a great state as is Ohio just for different reasons.
the round thing is a wash basin there was a ring around it near the floor that you stepped on and water would stream into the basin and you washed up
The Large Round stone thing was a Hand washing Sink would have had a round tread around the bottom to step on for water.

At 12:12 your "wheel" is a wash stand,so the workers could wash their hands/arms.

Great video, thanks for posting. Most of my family moved to Detroit from Northeastern Tennessee and Southeastern Kentucky back in the day. Better pay and better conditions than the coal mines had to offer in Appalachia . Now all is about gone, so sad.

Working for Fisher Body Livonia and at peak operation employed 5,500 workers and sadly closed after 1987 .Rousch (unsure it's business) has occupied the factory site and rents out space. Great work but remove the baseline as it tends to minimize the true value you gained graphicly.

Teyah Herbin wow that’s fascinating. My family has a huge car history with my dad being an engineer at Ford Chrysler and gm. He designed the very first military hummer. So exploring this building was like exploring my family history. If you want I’ll go back to Detroit and film other abandoned places if you have any in mind.
That round object looks like a hand washing station. In the middle was the head for the water and sprayed out like a fountain, usually operated by a foot pedal.
Would be cool to see it working.

We called them "bird baths". There was a bar at the bottom that circled the basin to activate the water with your foot. Hands free! Way ahead of it's time 😂

You didnt do the old packard factory and now its being demolished as i speak finally its going and making way for something else and the value of the land too.
Having grown up in Michigan. Once I became old enough and became interested in filming abandoned stuff I had already moved away around 2013. 2016 I moved back closer and could make day trips. However stepping foot inside the Packard plane was highly dangerous and would immediately get u arrested as it was patrolled. Plus it was in such ruin that it just wasn’t worth the risk. And I wish I had have been able to document it when it was more intact because my grandfather worked for Packard.
If there is any other cool place in Detroit you want me to cover I’ll gladly do so in the near future
When I went there where giant limestone spikes coming down from the ceilings on the upper floors they where pretty cool

Bro that's not limestone it's a type of mold. They drip onto the floor too that's why under a lot of them there is a flat white hump
the large "wheel" 12:20 is a sink. Foot controls with a center fountain and everyone can stand around it and wash their stinky hands.

It’s a great place and I mean metro Detroit as a whole. It will always be home even though I live in Ohio now.
The love for the automobile used to be done with craftmanship and hand skills. Today its only numbers built by robots without a soul.

@@bluesharp59 I would like to say that having robots produce things would remove human error and defects as well as lower the cost to buy that product. Well unfortunately it just gives greedy corporations more profit when they continue selling the product at the same price but with lower production costs.

Not sure if this is the right vid., but I saw a goose who being a little aggressive.
There is a female goose who will be having ducklings and protecting that area and is usually on top of buildings or high areas.
It will hurt you if you get too close..

I didn’t encounter any wildlife while visiting this area. However I have had many encounters with wildlife and am use to it. There is a park in Michigan called Kensington and the wildlife is so use to people. I grew up going there touching sand hill cranes deer and even a raccoon of course I let them approach me and even once a sandhill crane stole my Sandel and I had to chase it around. Even in my own backyard in Ohio ive had encounters with hawks foxes and deer. Thanks for the support. Oh I do have footage somewhere of baby sandhill cranes on their nest. It was incredible to see.

I was watching 2 young guys friend looking at the abandoned GM plants in detroit.
These guys were outside one of the buildings and on top of the building was a goose keeping close watch of them.
If you ever come across this with a goose in my story.
The male goose will stay with the female until she has her ducklings.

that was a sink. it had a "tower" in the center that would spray out water like a shower all around. there was a bar you stepped on to to let water flow.

Not sure what you mean? I’m not trying to be them. I don’t break into places breaking the law like they do. Detroit is where I grew up. It’s my turf and I know it well. I grew up exploring every inch of the city they didn’t. Thank you for watching and I hoped you enjoyed it.
Cool video, but I sort of have my doubts as to whether the Fisher Body Plant built WWII German Panzer tanks in 1943.
I’m not sure but I do know they built vehicles for the war effort as I had family members that have worked in the auto industry in Detroit for many generations.

@@darryldddd yes by definition I lived in the Detroit metro area and constantly went downtown. Anything the city of Detroit and Wayne county did affected me since I lived in the same county as Detroit. So yes I’m a detroiter

The round ceramic things you showed and asked what they were lol. They had a foot petal around the bottom and u would step on it to start the water. The idea was more than could wash at a time thx

Depends. If it’s graffiti that’s artistic then I do enjoy it. If it’s just someone scribbling or tagging the place up then no. I’ve seen some graffiti around Detroit that’s absolutely incredible.

Its sad when Detroit was a good city and now its a sh#ty city of all time and filled with bankruptcys
Its my birth city and having lived there till age 23 my family also grew up there seeing it flourish in the 50s and 60s. Ive seen the city fall and now its rising from the ashes and reinventing itself. The suburbs and downtown are fantastic. Big companies are coming in, shopping is returning to downtown and they just put in light rail.

@@PontiacFan68 Detroit still does make cars. They manufacture about 7 different models In Detroit.
