Hi Dina. Thank you. Indeed, Penang is very cultural :) The Snakes are actually harmless, because they are asleep all day and not poisonous at all :) I did not stay at the blue mansion. I stayed at a cheap hotel instead :) But maybe one day, I will stay at the Blue Mansion^^
Hi. Nice! I miss Penang! I love the food there and the culture. In particular all the festivals like CNY, Jade Emperor God Festival and Nine Emperor Gods Festival. The latter I would love to come to see. I guess the main festivities for that one will be in Butterworth.
I'm flying to Penang tomorrow, your video has had some influence on what I'll check out there. One thing though: you said you found the Thai temple there unique because of the long dragons leading to the entrance... I've seen this at several Thai temples... Wat Bang Phil Yai Nai in Samut Prakan and the Wat Tham Sua in Kanchaniburi come to mind...
Hi. I hope you had a great trip to Penang. What you said about Thai temples is correct. I actually was referring the uniqueness of the dragons because of their glitter. I am not sure how common glittery dragons are overthere; possibly you know that better than me ;-)

Hi Sarah Jane. Thank you very much! Yes, it was an unfortunate mistake from my friend who translated long as snake but he wanted to say dragon. My apology for the mistake. Happy that you liked the video. In my other videos including dragon dance I already have named it correctly🤗🐉
I liked Penang when I went there a while ago although not as much as I love Langkawi but it is always worth coming here for the amazing temples, mosques and the diverse culture. Penang is mainly Chinese dominated area of Malaysia.
Hi. Yeah thats true. Penang has amazing temples and diverse culture. I would say Penang has the most visible Chinese culture of all places in Malaysia. I have not been to Langkawi yet, but I might consider going there in the future. I normally went to East Malaysia for beaches and natural sites. Have you been there? And if so, how different is Borneo from Langkawi?
@@DjemoGraphic Penang definitely has the more visible Chinese culture in Malaysia as well as Indian culture. The temples are a MUST SEE in Penang, no doubt about that. The best beaches in Malaysia are Redang Island and Perhentian Islands off the NE coast of Malaysia and really good for snorkelling and for total relaxation. I've never been to the Borneo end of Malaysia but I heard it is good so I can't compare that with Langkawi. However, Langkawi offers a few things for budget travellers like good beaches, natural beauty, limestone cliffs, Island Hopping Tours, Mangroves Tours, 3 different waterfalls and obviously the sky cab/bridge and plenty of night markets to sample some good food - you can hire a car for reasonable rate to go around the island - it is less lively than Penang though which is what I prefer (and less in terms of diverse culture). In terms of diverse culture and party life, Penang wins. In terms of natural beauty + beaches + less pollution, Langkawi wins. Penang has some natural beauty but personally think Langkawi is better in that area
@@brothersman524 Thanks for your brief answer :) Although I have never been, I also would say that Redang and Perhentian Island have the most beautiful beaches in peninsular Malaysia. Borneo is VERY beautiful and I can highly recommend to go for a visit! I published 2 videos about Sabah, which may give you some insight "Murug Turug Waterfall" and "Wonderful Sabah East Malaysia - Heaven on Earth".
@@DjemoGraphic I've been to both Redang and Perhentian Islands - they are amazing, better beaches than Langkawi and Penang. I have heard of Sabah which I know it is in Borneo and it was on my bucket list to go there. All these places or islands are good for different things: Penang for its diverse cultures, Redang and Perhentian for its beaches and snorkelling, Langkawi for its natural beauty and cable car/sky bridge. So I guess I need to go to Sabah and you need to go to Langkawi - that's a done deal!!
I lived in Penang for 5 yrs. A unique experience. Good video, but mostly centered around the Chinese culture in Penang, 1 of 3; omitting the Indian and Muslim influence. Looks like it was done around the time of Chinese New Year. Any videos on the many festivals and celebrations in Penang? Overall, very enjoyable, 👍!
Hi Gazelle. Thank you very much for your nice comment, feedback and subscribe. Yes, I went during Chinese New Year. I uploaded a video about CNY just 2 weeks ago. I actually intended to include the Sri Mahariamman temple in Georgetown for number 10 but while editing the sequences I realized filming was not allowed. My indian friends advised me to not publish the footage to respect the rules. Such ristrictions I did not find at chinese temples. That's why the video may seem quite chinese based
Hi Maretha. Thank you very much for your kind words :) I am growing faster recently, especially since I published this video. I am confident with a lot of patience and hard work to produce new videos the growth rate will increase.
may i know, if there is any Penangian here. Is there a high traffic that would reach 1 hour from gorge town to bukit mertajam during peak hour eg 7am in the morning?
I am travelling to Penang in a few weeks and I am looking at places to stay at the moment. Would you mind telling me where you stayed while you were there? I want to stay somewhere that is easy to access the different areas.
Hi Charlotte. I stayed at the Tune Hotel. Was cheap and convenient to go around. I mostly used GRAB to reach the places I visited. Within Georgetown old city you can just walk around ;)
Nicely sum up. Glad its all attractions instead of street food. Would be nice to add in a few Churches and Hindu temples. Do add a few hiking/walks at botanical gardens, moon gate to Penang hill hike, pantai kerachut/mukahead hike and dam to balik pulau hike. There are also quite a few activities at teluk bahang. I'll leave that for you to explore.... have a great one... 😁
I was filming at Hindu temples, but I realized later during editing the "no filming" signs, so I did not want to be offensive and instead replaced the Sri Mahamariamman temple in georgetown as #10 with the Goddess of Mercy temple. The churches I may include on another video, thanks for reminding me about it. Also the other suggestions you gave me I will take a closer look at them. Thanks a lot.

Hi.. Are there any good vegan or vegetarian (no meat no egg) options in Penang. I know Indian food has veg options, but I want to try more of Malaysian local cuisine. Plz do assist.
@@littleprincesshezal8905 Vegan may be difficult, because its considered still very exotic in south east asia. But there are also chinese restaurants that serve mocked meat (mostly imitated with soy). I think you can find such stalls in food courts. Then If you check the place in my video at #6 at the beach. The restaurant I showed is vegetarian (it is though more for brunch). I think nowadays even in a foodie place like Penang vegetarian options are more likely available (especially in georgetown). Maybe if you check the dining options on tripadvisor that can be very helpful. I hope I could help you
KEK LOK Si TEMPLE in the 80's, 90's was named the temple of a thousand rip offs but over the years it has changed for the better and is nothing what it once was best change Penang made.
That's interesting. I have been to other temples in the world, where I have experienced such practises; luckily my drivers warned me about that. Having returned to some of the places, I saw these practises have been mostly discontinued. My first visit to the Kek Lok Si Temple was in 2013, that time there were already no scams.

Hi Brandon. I have not seen much during my 2 days trip in Sarawak in 2013, but I definitely have seen enough to say that these two cities are VERY different. Penang has a very strong chinese influence and long history; cities in peninsular Malaysia that I would say are comparable would be Melaka and Ipoh. Kuching is on Borneo and the ethnic composition of that side of Malaysia is totally different from the west. In Kuching there are a lot of Iban and other Borneo native people, which still have a lot of tribal culture. That remains very visible up to today, which is something you wont find in West Malaysia. Kuching has a small chinatown (or chinese street), which has similar houses as in Penang. But there is not much street art as you would find it in Georgetown. A city that has some similarity to Kuching is Kota Kinabalu, but there is no river.
Hi Kris. You are quite right with your comment, but this is the result of a few circumstances. I actually did film in Hindu temples. However, during video editing I realized, filming was not allowed, when I noticed the signs. This was for example the case at the Sri Mahamariamman temple in Georgetown. Because of this, I included the goddess of mercy temple instead. I did not want to be offensive towards the Hindu community, as apparently filming of the deities inside the shrine is according to my friends advice not well accepted. Very sorry about it.
Hi Farhan. Penang has a very rich heritage of chinese culture, of which temples are part of. Furthermore, myself, I love to visit temples/worship places in general. Out of these Top 10 places, 6 were not temples, but beaches, town, museums etc. Also I only had limited time on my travel and could not explore the entire island like visiting the national park or monkey beach. What places would you recommend me to visit for my next trip to Penang?
Hi Richard. I know about the dragon dance. My friend did a wrong translation. My bad about this. Having lived 5 years in Singapore i know the other dance is called lion dance and i named it correctly. The blue mansion tour guide she said the mansion used to be the embassy of the chinese empire for some time.

So pleasing to see the Blue Mansion in it's completely renovated glory. When I lived there in the early 90's it was being restored. It was fascinating to watch it's progress! Truly a great Penang success! Fond memories!

Amazing video and recommendations. I was thinking to visit Penang in July. Do you believe it is a good time? I am also going to Ipoh, KL and Melaka.
Hi Alberto. Weather-wise July should be fine. It's just that the entire western world has holidays then. Whether that is much impacting Penang I am not sure. Usually there are a lot of tourists from China.

Thanks a lot, Djemo, for presenting this amazing video. Happy happy traveling! Btw, did you stay at blue mansion?
Hi Dina. Thank you. Indeed, Penang is very cultural :) The Snakes are actually harmless, because they are asleep all day and not poisonous at all :) I did not stay at the blue mansion. I stayed at a cheap hotel instead :) But maybe one day, I will stay at the Blue Mansion^^
I personally live in Penang and it's a good city and I love the foods
Hi.

Yeoh jetty temple is where i pay respect
Very nice :) I loved that temple :)

That's why the video may seem quite chinese based

may i know, if there is any Penangian here.
Great video and no worries to mistaken the dragon as snake. Afterall you are not a Chinese and no one knows everything in this world :)

Is it different from Sarawak Kuching cat city?
@@DjemoGraphic that's cool 😀I'd love to go Penang again
@@brandonlw7264 :) happy to hear! There is a nice chinese temple in Butterworth (across the bridge)
Very Chinese and Buddhist temple only. What about the Balathandayuthapani Hindu temple .
DjemoGraphic ok no worries.
