  • How to finish or end a note is one the most requested videos I get asked. So I deep dive in this mini masterclass and talk about all the ways you can end a note. Yup, there is more than one way! Grab a pencil and take some notes! It can be tough to play in tune when ending a note, but with these practice techniques you'll be able to play like a pro.

    Very happy to see this -- I didn't even realize how bad this was until I recorded myself and realized I sounded like a depressed frog when ending a note.

    Thanks for making this video! Stephanie Mortimore actually did a masterclass with the flute choir I’m in, and one of her tips for note endings was to close the embouchure by raising your bottom lip. That has helped me a lot with note endings.

    What are some of your hardest spots in music where your note ending has to be perfect?

      The higher register notes. I still struggle to get it nice

      I think that in Lacrimosa, the last two notes have to be perfect.
      First there is a long RE, that must be piano and hold always on the same tone, without even a vibrato. And then a shorter RE also piano but because it's shorter you have to end it without having the feeling that you cut the musical phrase before its end.
      It's not that hard to do, but because Lacrimosa has a lot of emotion, the final is so important in this music.

    Hi Amelie, thanks for your tips! I have a question: I recently learned ''Spirited Away'', but find that when I play the note C# in it, it really sounds false. (Just that one particular note.) How can I correct that problem?

    • @flutechannel
      @flutechannel  2 роки тому +4

      Yes, C# is notorious for a lot of flutists. I would really work with a tuner and find the adjustment in your playing to get it a bit more in tune. Alas your not alone.

    Hi Amelie,
    I notice that when I cut off a note on the flute, I close my aperture(I believe the aperture is the opening hole my mouth creates for the air to come out of my embouchure). Do you think closing my aperature is the wrong way to cut-off a note?
    also, am I using the word aperture correctly?
