Hey Jeff, great video. These are incredible drums. I had one in Halo Black Glitter, which I regret selling. Nothing wrong with a midline kit throw on some good heads top and bottom you're all set. "Pearl, The Best Reason To Play Drums" lol
The muffle you used on your snare drum, I use these on all my drums. They really work well and I make them from old Remo pinstripe heads. Anyway nice kit.
Its a great/inexpensive way to muffle them, isn't it? I made some more recently out of a few old emporer heads. the 2 plies in an emperor are pretty thin which works perfect for me - just enough. thanx for watching/commenting!
Awesome kits! I have the same kit on order from Pearl, minus one kick drum, plus the 8" tom. The kit really needs a rack system, not a fan of the cymbal holder brackets, to flimsy.
I prefer the rack system as well, went stealth on my kit. The band I was helping put this together opted for this which works well for them. Its a great sounding kit though, isn't it? I'm sure you love yours
Great review Jeff. This new Session line looks very cool. I like the mahogany finish on the inside of the shells as well, something the previous generations of Sessions didn't have if I'm not mistaken. So does the band change drummers constantly? Or why is the reason for them to want to have their own kit that is not yours?
Correct you are! My session kit that I play at church is about a 2013/2014 and it doesn't have the mahogany on the inside. It still sounds great but I prefer the mahogany visually. The band has one main drummer and a few subs and logistically it made more sense to go this route. The guys are all loving it and there is a big level of respect for the band kit as there is also a big amount of respect for the band b/c they treat everyone very well.
Yeah, its the trade off. They want the look, it DOES have a double pedal for the sound and this way its quicker setup and teardown. But like you said, it wasn't my $$ :)
Hey Mark, yeah, Pearl is tops for me and I'm not an endorser, just a statisfied customer since 1987. We looked at the MMR and the other maple series but there are two reasons that they went with this: price (double of the SSS) and wait time. It was going to be 9-10 mos wait for any maple series besides MCC (still twice the prices) and everything they ordered except the 14" which still hasn't come in yet, was available. I did put this with my MW kit right after this video and recorded it which I should have up this coming Saturday. It sounded great. So I still think this line of kit is a win/win. Thanx for watching brother!
For this band they want that extra thump that muffling gives but for me personally, I only use a hand towel folded inside of a pillow case and sitting against the batter head, front head is wide open
@@JeffWald Thats cool. I didn't mean to sound offensive but I luv the new options available. I tried going back to the old felt strip on these new style drums and was surprised how good they sound.
Hi Jeff.. I was wondering if you would eventually review this kit.. I'm really surprised that the toms on this kit are way more lively than I have heard on any other demo on UA-cam... and thats good news! I had pretty much written these off cuz they sounded dead to me.. But I love how they sound on your vid. You're so good man. Love to watch and listen to you.. I may buy this in the pro beat config w 24 13,16,18 and add the 10 and 12
Hey Brad! Thanx man. They sound really good in person. When the sound guy came to pick them up I demoed for him and he was in awe of how good they sounded in person. The maiden voyage show that I played with them on Sept 10, 2022 (I posted the La Do Da-ish drum solo from that gig) he said they sounded amazing out front. Several other folks commented to me how great they sounded thru the PA. So for the money, I think you'd do great with the config you're looking to do. Hit up Matt Kerwin and tell him I told you to call, his contact info is in the link. I don't get any kickback, he'll just take care of you. They ordered this thru him and I ordered my MW kit thru him in 2014 as well as I currently have the matching 18x16 on order thru him as well!

Its a really great kit. I had a blast playing it. They knocked it out of the park with this line
Very cool Jeff love how it sounds especially the floor toms
They're really tubby but clear, I'm impressed for sure
Looks like a blast to play!
It is! Good sounding and good looking kit
@@JeffWald I'm only a little jealous...Ok maybe more than a little 😃

Sounds great. I like that snare sound. Killing it one handed. Floor toms nice and low.
ha, thanx man. It really is a great line of kit.
beautiful kit Jeff, nice sound
Glad you like it! I'm really impressed with it and from what they've told me, its doing very well on the road
love that finish. great sonic sounding kit.. the blended shells are best for your money.
They really are, I'm very impressed
Sound is rich and huge. I'm impressed
Nice video. Drums sound awesome! Good color.

I have the same kit 🤘 imo it's definitely better than mid-level. Great value and great look and tone
Agreed. Its almost like its mis-priced!
Nice looking drums! The ornamental second bass drum...kind of silly...but if u got the $ then why not?
Yeah, its the trade off. They want the look, it DOES have a double pedal for the sound and this way its quicker setup and teardown. But like you said, it wasn't my $$ :)
Nice. The MMR ‘S would have sounded better. But you really can’t go wrong with pearl.

I hate when they put stuff in bass drums. No need for that anymore with the right head choice.
