You shouln't really worry about views to be honest, your other videos just did outstandingly well so you cant keep that up for every single upload ofcourse. Just keep doing what you are doing and your views will grow with the passion you put into it! :)

Everyone thinks that the people in comp sci are emotionless robots but you need to be really creative to think of the next big piece software.
I've been struggling to understand what an enjoyable future would look like for me. I went from computer engineering to IT in my first year of college. I hate work culture and the idea of a 40 hour work week. Just getting up at 8 AM sounds nightmarish. Working this way seems inevitable, but I want to spend my time following passions and growing to understand myself more. I don't really feel a desire to make money beyond taking care of myself. It seems like it will be a real challenge to find a place to work that I enjoy, makes me enough money, and gives me enough freedom. I spend my time thinking about the bigger picture rather than how I will make it through life. I have come to understand that many people just worry about themselves. I see so many peers unhappy with their situation, overwhelmed with student debt and low wages. I don't know how I will fit into that world and be happy. Kind of a directionless rant started by that question in the video. It's so fucked that people even ask a 16 year old what their career will look like. I'm 22 and have no clue, and that's not even a bad thing.
There is nothing wrong with anything you have said. But, as schlatt said there is a lot of grey between that black and white, and you should just take your time and explore it. Theres always going to be an opportunity and its not the end of the world because you cant find it. It wont be gone, and it wont be gone for a long time. :)

for the guy worried about doing comp s I or arts, it is much better to have your money maker be something you don’t like and your hobby be something you really like. don’t pick a job you hate, but you can learn to love a job that is okay enough. if you’re good at something, be smart when deciding what to do, because it’ll make or break your stable future. but if you’re thinking you want to do a career in something you love, I wouldn’t. even if I had all the opportunity to. because when you are obligated to always do what you love, it’s harder to like after it gets worn down and then you find yourself not putting any heart into your job because you’re not interested anymore. but if you pursue that comp sci job and do well in it, you can maintain an okay/positive view of it, you can still do your art on the side and be comefortable with both. just my take.
I absolutely agree about the arts in school point. Often I find that the guide line that courses like that follow may stifle creativity, and where you would've zigged, you instead have to zag. There's so many resources online and people to talk to, that you don't need classes to make stuff - and that's exciting, because that means its never been a better time to start creating.
I don't think Schlatt realizes how much these videos help. I am a senior in high school, I've been doing online school for pretty much two years and im graduating over zoom. The last two years have been nothing short of depressing. I started struggling with my mental health really badly during this, I have harm ocd and being inside constantly made it so much worse. There has been so many times im close to giving up, just failing high school, and quitting my job. These videos bring me a new way of looking at life, and motivate me and everyone else endlessly. I'm graduating in June with a 90 average, and I honestly don't know if I could've done it without these wise words. Thank you Schlatt.

just wanted to let you know that your answer to question 3 calmed down an anxiety of mine that i've had since high school. like i've always been exactly like the guy in the e-mail. good at CS, and interested in it, but it's not really my 'dream job'. i'm way more interested in stuff like graphic design, filmmaking, digital art, etc, and i've always enjoyed doing those things as hobbies. so now that i'm in college pursuing a CS degree, i've been constantly thinking about whether i should've taken the riskier creative path instead. and it's nice to be reminded that you can pursue both. so thank you for that, schlatt.
Im a freshman in my second sem of college, seeing posts like these from high schoolers reminds me of when I was a sophomore. I think the main issue people have with "growing up", i.e. finding a career and sticking to it to eventually "climb up the ranks" and make money, Is that they dont yet grasp that who you are as a person is going to completely change. You meet people, you watch videos, you learn new advice and all sorts of things that just change you slowly until you've become somewhat new. The things you like and are good at will likely be different a year from now, but you'll know more in general. Its really easy to get hung up on what the future holds, and what to do now to make it easier, but truth be told, we just don't know everything. But as we grow up, we start learning more and more, and we get closer to that unobtainable line of knowing what the future has in store. My best advice for people that havent heard it yet, would be to just be. You dont have to be anything of anyone in particular, to just be alive and doing what is best for you is the most fulfilling thing you can do. Life just becomes much easier to understand the more you live it. I hope this advice brings a little solace and eases anyone's anxiety about what to do in life. stay chill gamers
I saw the title and got terrified because I got flashbacks of me listening to the song Are You Happy? by Bo Burnham... and it’s great don’t get me wrong, but it makes me think a lot and never fails to make me cry... I was worried I was gonna have an existential crisis.
In this quarantine and what seems like world of chaos I find these videos to be so helpful and in a way therapeutic. I watched 10 of these one night in a row and it was a big eye opener. This is why I love Schlatts content. It’s not because he “reacts” to things or gives a generic answer. He genuinely cares about his audience and gives them a view point they may have never saw. Thank you schlatt, for being halarious and helpful in times we need them.
i know i'm late to this but just want to add something on that passion vs job opportunities question coming out of high school i felt like i had a big passion for music so i went to study it at college. after a year of that i realised that i'm not nearly as into it as all of the other people in my course and i wasnt willing to put in the 5 hours a day of practice. so i changed to a double degree with commerce and music. i was very skeptical going into commerce but now 3 years later i can say that i have grown a passion for finance that far outweighs my passion for music. i now spend my free time thinking / learning more about a bunch of different finance topics just because its so interesting to me. i think as a highschool student, its easy to think that you are meant to do something because you like it more than the small group of people around you but when you get into that field, you realise that maybe you dont have passion to the same extent as the new people around you. if theres a chance to do both art and computer science, you definitely should, because you may end up liking computer science far more than you ever thought

to the PS4 guy - would recommend bloodborne - it can be polarising to new players - but the playerbase is a far cry from dark souls - basically they're lovely and friendly to new players - game is rewarding and the art design is excellent
