I go straight to vacuuming the machine so no fluff goes further into the machine. If the lint is persistent I brush and vacuum at the same time. I have the Enlighten and I can open the LHS door to clean the machine on the other side. My machine manual advised not to oil. I have my machine serviced every 18months to 2 years. I I think your left hand side door will open too. Thanks for the advice. Great video
Thank you for your video! I'm on a very tight budget, and i don't have a service shop that can service it. Can I do it all at home or do I just not buy a serger? And can I use regular sewing machine needles in a serger?
I am curious as to why would you be hesitant to remove the stitch plate? That give you better access to the lint below, to the left and behind the feed dogs. Without removing the plate, you are only doing a superficial cleaning of that area. The vacuum helps some but not enough. Also removing the bottom plate will let you clean out all the lint; broken needles etc. that fall down.
I popped off the bottom of my serger to get at lint on the bottom. It really collected on the inside of the bottom cover. I also did put a drop of oil on the screw of the knife. It helped a lot because the knife was stuck in the up position even though I locked the blade.
this was helpful, thank you....Which babylock serger is this? Looks similar to oneI purchased used a couple years ago. I was intimidated, so it sat for almost a year after I had it professionally cleaned and serviced. Anyway long story short.....I love it and want to keep it in tip top shape. I did flannel pj bottoms one christmas and what a mess after doing 20 of them for the family, I tried brushing out the lint, but didn't think about oil. I will do that next time for sure
Oh!! good information on why you don't use the can of air. I was asking myself why not just blow all that dust away. Can you use a mini vac? (WOW!! did I ask that question.? haha)
That would have been driving me crazy!😂 I'm a little OCD and tend to brush the lint out every time I open that cover. If I can see it, it's getting brushed out. However, I only throughly clean and oil about once a month. Thank you for the links. Would love to get that vacuum attachment.
It says not to oil the thread ports, you don't want oil on your threads. But you should always read your manual to confirm where and how often to oil your machine.
With my first serger, the biggest challenge was adjusting tension to get that neat stitching. That would be a constant learning and tweaking of settings. But, overall, the serger is pretty easy to use. It looks more intimidating than it is.
i have been trying to find out how to clean the threading port on this serger & not any of the videos are showing how to do that. You all show how to clean every other part but that. I have one the thread will not go through.
You neglected the left-hand side of your serger. You only oiled one of 6 ports that get oiled. Please check your manual, sweetie, for the other areas that need to be cleaned and oiled. Also, you are using the oil spout incorrectly, pull the spout ALL the way UP. It will ensure you get only one drop of oil, so you don’t have to guess and use a paper towel. You put the TIP of the spout on the metal part to be oiled - NOT a paper towel or a cloth. When finished, push the metal tip in the bottle DOWNWARD and replace plastic cap. Try to put your brush bristles directly on the clumps of lint and carefully LIFT OFF MACHINE. All that digging and sweeping back-and-forth only moves debris to hidden areas. I hope you don’t mind me giving you these tips. If you clean your machine carefully after EACH use, you will never get build up of threads and lint.
Thank you......as I walk to the trash bin with my can of air.....😮😮😮.......and to the store for my mini vacuum set.

LOL!
The vacuum small part. Where did you get that

I needed this!!!!!!! Very timely for my 2nd hand serger...

Thanks for the extra tip, Linda! I will pop mine off and see what I find under there!
@@Stylesewme I júst lay the serger on the back with the bottom facing me.
What is the vacuum you used
Thank you so much for your clear instructions! Much appreciated!
Thank You! Very useful! Love your voice! Like others, I’m taking my canned air to the trash! 🤣
Glad it was helpful!
Carefully dispose of canned air!! Read the can for proper disposal, please!
Thank you!!! Very helpful video!

Yay! I'm glad you gave your baby some TLC! My serger is the Babylock Imagine.

I was reading your mind! :)
Oh dear I blew into mine!
“Resist the urge to blow into there! I know it’s going to be tempting. Just don’t do it!”
Me: um, that’s my favorite part! 😳😬
Thank you, this was very helpful.

That's a great habit that I obviously need to adopt! lol I vow to never let it get like that again!
So helpful.but i noticed that it's written on the machine that you should not oil it..so doesn't oiling spoil it or something

How long did it take you to learn how to use a serger.....operation, adjustments, and actual use?

I would recommend calling a sewing machine shop in your area to show you how to properly clean it.
Literally had canned air in my hand as I started watching this.
