There's a very famous French classic by Emile Zola called "Au Bonheur des Dames", which talks about the beginnings of department stores in Paris. I read it a while ago but I remember really liking it. It has quite a lot of descriptions, but I feel like it's the right writing style when it comes to a novel set in a department store :)

I actually like the North American cover for death of a bookseller because it has all my favorite colors, as well as a bookshelf, books and a skull. I am just that girly that likes that sort of stuff.
I think the North American cover goes with the premise of the book too

Ooh you should watch Mr Selfridge! It's set in the first couple of decades of the 1900s and is all about the start up of Selfridges (duh...). It's adapted from a biography as well so you'll know there's a book if you get in deep 😂 think it's on ITV catch up still

David Grann also wrote Killers of the Flower Moon. I've heard he does a ton of research and I haven't talked to anyone who didn't like it.

Thornhedge is like a twisted sleeping beauty or at least that is how I understood it when I listened to the audiobook

I really enjoyed Thornhedge. It was my type of T. Kingfisher book. It gave me the same vibes as Bryony and Roses and A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking, which are faves. (I didn’t enjoy Nettle and bone or What moves the dead.)

I hated What Moves the Dead. I really liked The Twisted Ones if you haven't tried that one yet. One of my top books of last year.

As a bookseller I can absolutely confirm that readers love The Wager! I'm not a nonfic girlie unless it's a memoir and/or LGBTQ+, race, and/or gender related so I'm not planning on picking it up but I hope you enjoy it!

Cluedo somehow always manages to *hit different* when I watch it.

I really enjoyed Thornedge but it wasn't a 5 stars for me.... I preferred Nettle and Bone.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on most of these. Especially Death of a Bookseller, Helle & Death (both on my TBR) and The Wager. I read The Wager at the end of January and it was a strong 4 star for me. It is pretty heavy going historically though -- expecially in the begining section. I have read (listened to) the first three books in the Lady Hardcaste series after hearing about them from you. I love how light and fun they are. Hope you have a successful reading month and enjoy all these.

I haven't read The Wager, but it is on my tbr. I'm excited to see what you think of it.

I did see an old Sears and roebuck catalog from the 1910s at my dad‘s house. Once I mean the catalog still had buggies in it for sale and this is the kind of catalog that being in America used to use for toilet paper in our out houses don’t get grossed out please

The TV show Mr Selfridge I think showed more of the history as I think it was based on the real Mr Selfridge

Hello can you please recommend some young adult murder mystery books where there is a male protagonist as the main character, who solves the murder case ? 😅
