Hi! I just wanted to share something I learned in a culinary class re: holding knives. Have you heard of this? Instead of your hand being sort of flat when chopping, you cup your hand, so that your knuckles and fingertips are aligned vertically. Almost like the shape of an N off your wrist. Does that make sense? So if you accidentally get the knife too close, your finger tips are protected. Love your videos!
Just some friendly information from your local farmer - all meat and dairy products will always be antibiotic free. 😊 Antibiotics are strictly monitored by farmers and the USDA so they do not enter the food chain and can only be given to an animal if he or she is not feeling well. Similar to us going to a Dr. to get medicine.
So, there’s really no need to pay attention to the “no-antibiotic” label on the packaging. It’s a marketing tactic. 😉 Keep up the great content!
I don't know I've seen a lot of documentaries, where are 5,000 chickens are crammed into 1000 ft space and they're so close together they put antibiotics in everything because if one chicken gets sick they all get sick. have seen beef cows treated the same way, Living in stalls, not being allowed to even graze. the way animals are treated in general when they are born with a sole purpose of feeding humans just really upsets me. I stopped eating meat like that a long time ago, I do consume dairy products- products made without killing the animals...
there's a recent new documentary series on Netflix called "you are what you eat" and one of the people interviewed and shown is a prior chicken farmer who quit raising chickens because of how it was done.
You are correct! It’s the same way with “clean beauty”, it’s purely a marketing tactic and reality means nothing.
No one ever seems to talk about using raw cabbage in a salad. I’m not talking coleslaw - I chop a head of cabbage and add cukes, tomatoes, peppers, celery, whatever! It lasts so much longer and is much better for you than iceberg or other types of greens, and it’s so much less expensive.
Yes! A head of purple cabbage sliced up lasts like 2 weeks in the fridge. It’s very pretty & adds crunch & flavor on salads & tacos as well as salads. Plus it’s supposed to be great for heart health, so we do it a lot to help my husband lower his cholesterol naturally. (Maybe it helps?) anyway, it’s delicious, cheap & long-lasting.
This is a very popular thing to do in Japan I picked it up when I was living over there. It's so good I prefer it to most lettuce.
@@alishaparr577 - Yes! I rarely buy salad greens anymore except when I have guests (you never know how they feel about raw cabbage), but I use it exclusively for my salads at home for me. I pretty much make a big one every week - I’ve had a bowl with dinner every night.
I’ve never had cabbage salad just in coleslaw. Good idea though 😋
Delicious!
Every time I shop I wonder how families are surviving…..we are two people and we eat simple foods and our grocery bill still astounds me!
I just said this to my husband! We don’t eat fancy, we don’t have any crazy expensive food habits and my bill is like…WHAT?!
Wow. I pay over $500 a week on groceries between Aldi and Costco....but we have nine kids ....seven are boys....and four are teenagers. We eat so much produce! Three costco bunches of bananas, a week six bags of apples a week, six containers of berries....at least for each week, carrots, tomatoes, we always have cucumbers and bell peppers on hand for snacking, salad, potatoes, brussel sprouts, broccoli. It fills our fridge! (one of them. We have two full fridges, one full upright freezer and one chest freezer. )
A sliced tomato and mayo sandwich is the best snack ever
MMM with lots of pepper.
Yes! I like to toast mine
@@ydoowj No that ruins it
Extra tomatoes? Throw them in the Crock-Pot with some onion, bell pepper, italian seasoning, salt and cook them on low for 12 hours. Presto! Tomato sauce. It can be frozen. 😊🍅
I’ve been on a kick of cottage cheese with diced English cucumber and tomatoes topped with everything bagel seasoning
This will be a staple for me when my garden starts producing!! I love this combo so much.
If overall health and fitness is a goal, reducing or eliminating packaged/processed foods is a huge step in the right direction.
Thank you for showing us how you put the food in the fridge and in the bowls. I really like that part. I am a single dad of two teenage boys in your channel has saved us thousands of dollars a year. Thank you so much!
I'm one person, so saving on produce can be hard. One thing I like to do is cut up onion and peppers and freeze them. All I have to do is grab the bag and viola!
I buy the frozen bag at Walmart.
I have a friend who buys large amounts of salad for just 2 people and vacuum seals meal portions for them for the week ( or sometimes makes “salad in a jar”),and she says her produce easily lasts a week or more this way! I’ve yet to try this but it seems reasonable!! 🥳
@@kimeverhart6253I have a friend who does the same..says berries lasts her a long time in jars..
My produce always lasts 2 or more weeks, i dont understand why it would go bad in a week?!?@@kimeverhart6253
Yep. That’s the easiest way to
Every night, we have either yogurt with strawberries and blueberries, or cottage cheese with chopped up pineapple. Sometimes I add a little spurt of lemon cool whip from Aldi. Yum! I miss Costco. All we have here is Sams.
One of my favorite money saving tricks is to make my own yogurt using my Instant Pot. It is super easy with the cold start method. I use 1/2 gallon of ultra pasteurized ultra filtered milk (Costco has a box of 3 half gallons) and 1/2 cup plain yogurt with active cultures.(I retain 1/2 cup of yogurt from my previous batch as starter for my next batch) Mix milk & yogurt together in Instant Pot, push yogurt button and done! Eight hours later you have a huge batch of yogurt. I refrigerate for several hours then I divide up into individual containers with fruit so my kids can grab and go. I get about 12 servings for less than $4. If you like it sweeter you can add sweetened condensed milk to the initial milk & yogurt before starting. It takes very little time, saves money, and tastes better than the store bought yogurt.
I make my own yogurt too! I use regular whole milk and just bring it up to 180°F slowly, reduce temp and then do as you do. I get about 24 servings for less than $3
I use reconstituted skim milk powder for further savings - we make 2-3 batches per week, yogurt setting on my pressure cooker makes it so easy to make overnight.
This is the way! Cheap and healthy.
Oh wow! Can you use lactose free milk for this?
Yes, fairlife or Lactaid work as well. Fairlife is already ultra pasteurized so it doesn’t need to be heated to 180° and then cooled to 110°. You can just warm it to 110° and then you can add your couple of tablespoons of plain yogurt to as your starter and incubate as normal
Two reasons why it's GREAT to buy fruits and vegetables. No.1, They are good for you and healthy. No.2, I absolutely refuse to let my high priced groceries go to waste or spoil, so we eat them up right away!
Better than me. Ive let a head of cauliflower go bad bc I should’ve only bought one, not two
I grew up eating cottage cheese so I never understand why people have issues with the texture. I love it!
I don't like anything about it however I will eat it in lasagna which most people seem to think is gross 😂😂
I love cottage cheese with fresh peaches on top in the summer
@@dianasimplifies😵💫😂
I TOTALLY agree!! After having stomach surgery it's one of the best things to have. I love having blueberries with it!!
@@lorisarchet7732 Blueberries are great with it! My parents are southern so I also enjoy having slices of ripe tomato or slices of canned peaches. 😋
😂 we eat that many tomatoes. Every other week we go and get the box of tomatoes and the romaine because we eat salad daily.
I grow tomatoes and what I don't eat I freeze whole in a ziplock bag and use them for cooking soups and pasta sauce. Also my favorite go to sweet treat is a frozen banana dipped in dark chocolate
Our Costco had Reeces frozen banana slices. They are so good. Slices are dipped in dark chocolate. We went back to buy more & they sold out really fast. It is a good, refreshing snack.
Fresh tomatoes makes fresh salsa/pico. 😁 I’ve got a lime, jalapeño, and some tomatoes. I think there may be salsa made today.
Room for one more? 😂
I love grocery hauls and, as someone also gearing up for race and running season, a fitness oriented grocery haul is awesome!
Ok so first off.. I love your content! 🙌🏽 I watch all the videos, so great, informative and entertaining! Love.
However I am very confused with the whole dynamic of being so health and fitness oriented yet eating so much processed food..?? Just curious. I would love if you made a video addressing this!
Love tomatoes! Caprese salads, homemade Pico or salsa best way to use soft tomatoes up or chop n Freeze for later
We love tomato salad - cut them up, add onion, green peppers if you chose and add Italian dressing!
The cashier at Costco told me about storing romaine in aluminum foil. It totally works! Stays fresher longer!
I do this with my celery! It absolutely works with celery, I know for certain!!
Will that work if it's cut up? I like to pre cut it on a Sunday but it seems to get brown really fast.
@@yvonnedulaney6292 probably best to cut as needed.
@@yvonnedulaney6292 I don't know! It's worth a try!
I also got a truck load of vegetables and fruit today, makes me feel healthy just having them in my fridge. And yes to blending cottage cheese. Great in eggs too!
Can u show in a video your shaved Brussel sprouts and chicken stock recipe?
I’m doing a healthy Costco haul this week perfect timing!
My household will crush that box of tomato’s. I get that and the huge tub of bite size tomatos EVERY time we go to Costco. Hubby and my toddler are obsessed. Use your onions and make a pico de gallo for your fajitas!
I love mango but absolutely hate cutting it so I always buy it (and dragon fruit) frozen. As for a "dessert". My go to is DF yogurt, whatever berries are in my house and a sprinkle of chopped nuts. It hits like a sundae and doesn't leave me feeling as sluggish as junk food can.
As alternative to the yogurt sundae-- Cocowhip is a non-dairy whipped cream, or you can whip up canned coconut cream. Substitute raw almonds for the high-carb granola to add a natural protein.
This is so relatable even wrt frugality. Thanks for your great content
Hopefully this video will show the people who always comment about the budget grocery hauls why some people need to make unhealthy choices. I don't know what it is about grocery hauls but I always love to watch them.
Lovely selection of vegetables!😊
Yes! I did the same thing with the black Babybel!!
Strawberries starting to come into season is totally helping my “compromise desserts” right now too!! I’ve been just eating a bowl of strawberries with some cottage cheese on the side and a healthy topping of whipped cream and some sprinkles. It’s fun, it’s sweet, the whip cream feels indulgent but is about the only indulgence at the moment so I have guilt free energy with it!
I love to mix a tablespoon or 2 of granola in my yogurt. I don't usually eat it as cereal but only with yogurt or I have used it as a topping for a fruit crumble.
LOL - I'm sitting here eating a Honeycrisp apple from Costco and almost choked when you called me out!! 🤣
All those tomatoes would become a spicy mango salsa after that haul! I will have hundreds of pounds of tomatoes this summer in my garden. We do a ton of Caprese salad and salsa
I use olive oil in my Belgian waffle mix. Krusteaz is my favorite. Just sub the olive oil for the vegetable oil. It's DELICIOUS!
Make fresh salsa in your blender with those maters! That's what we do with the costco box.
I'm right there with you on having desert daily! I'm having to restrict sugar now with gestational diabetes. 🫤 Can you make a video in frugal food for those on a sugar-free diet? ❤
Yes!! The honey crisp apples at Costco are bomb!!
Tomatoes can be added to stretch tacos, fajitas, beef stew, pasta dishes, and it’s very good cooked with cabbage or spinach & heavy cream. My daughter also eats tomatoes like an apple 😊
Tomatoes you can pre make salsa and store in jars and freeze them, soup or tomatoes sauce for pizza/pasta
If you can't eat the tomatoes up in time while they are still fresh, cut out the stem area, slice the tomatoes in quarters and put them in the blender, leaving the skins on, and then freeze them. The falvour is preserved well and they are great in sauces.
I'm with you on the boiled potatoes with salt for running/cycling! they are tasty, filling, salty, yummy and don't give me intestinal distress during long rides.
I agree on the pears, I love the texture 😂
Sugar free jelly is also good with the yoghurt and berries for dessert
High fiber tortillas? Joseph's??? IN love with those!
Potato's for pre and during a bike race is a game changer!!
I’m envying that cut up mango!
I'm still impressed by that price!! Like wow that's a ton of food! And actual food, not prepackaged junk. Nice!!
I understand your tomato craze. I had just purchased a 5 lb bag of potatoes and then went to the store and found a 5 lb bag of potatoes for about $1.30 when it's normally about $5. I bought 2 bags. We have an entire fridge drawer of potatoes. I'm not sad about it. 😂
I Like to add natural peanut butter to my yogurt and I also do 1/4 cup of granola...delicious!
The vibe you are creating in your videos is truely amazing 😁
Thank you so much 😀
More freezer clean out cooking videos please!
Speaking of Snickers 😂, I got a Snickers Prorein bar at Walmart today! I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m hopeful! I got the one that has Carmel in it. 20 grams protein for the whole bar.
Also, I love blending the cottage cheese too. I add a packet of ranch seasoning and use it as dip, and then I also thin it down a bit with some Fairlife milk, and I use it for my dressing on my salads! Deeeelish! ❤️😎💪🏼
Try blending the courage cheese with frozen berries! It's SO good and tastes like a treat.
I just had the red flesh apple for tge first time and loved them.
Awesome dessert! ❤
It would be fun to have you do a budget grocery haul with a weekly spending amount at grocery outlet. They have a new app and you can look up the current deals and they typically have a five off $25 coupon. I’m interested to know if you could save more money on an extreme weekly budget compared to dollar tree with a lot more selection!
My favorite sweet is a bowl of bran flakes with some yogurt and fruit.
Try vegan cocoanut whipped cream. It will blow your mind. A friend brought it over with a vegan apple crisp and I was amazed how good the "cream" was with no cholestoral.
Debbie Meyers Green containers will help those fruit and veggies last longer
We spend that at Costo and we're just two people trying not to eat carbs and sugar and processed stuff. Every time I am shocked by the total I remind myself that there are plenty of people in this world who can't even get a lot of the stuff we easily can in this country, and then I just... am thankful, pay up and cook some real food. :D Try my favorite sandwich on those low carb wraps, it's swiss cheese, lettuce and tomato (salt and pepper on tomatoes, plenty of mayo. ) Oh, it's just really good. I don't know what it is about this combination but I like it better than with bacon. And we like our bacon, but it's like a magic combo for me, anyway. You look terrific and glad the finger's healed up, pretty much. Have a
great trip . You're the healthiest looking family I've seen lately, and also the happiest. :D Keep it coming, love from Maine!
I really like the Costco store and the Aldi's.
You can blanche and freeze some of the tomatoes if your afraid you won't be able to use them fresh.
$192! Geeze I got to move to the USA. Looking at 350 at least in Canada for that haul. Strawberries alone cost 14.99 on a bad day. 6.99 on a good day.
I was wondering the same thing...I'm in Canada too and the highest I've seen strawberries is $6.99.
I think its regional. Her prices are different from me and I'm in Oregon or San Diego. Very very different prices.
Christine,
I know it feels like you spent a lot of money; however, you really got lots of healthy and beautiful fruits , veggies, yogurts, and cheese that would cost so very much more at a regular grocery store! You and your family will be well fed with tasty and beautiful foods!! When you break down the cost per day per person, I think you will see that you have gotten quite the amazing deals there on your kitchen counter!
I just bought a Sam’s club membership because you talk well about that store but haven’t been yet…I hope their food is good too!
🥳🥰❤️
They don't have as many organic items unfortunately but that's where I go. I don't go to Costco. They also ship a lot of items if you are a plus customer. I live a long way from there.
@@dianasimplifies, thanks so much! I don’t live close either and I chose the plus membership! 😁
@@kimeverhart6253 awesome. I think you will love it!! I really do!
We had a sugar shortage here in Canada last winter it was scares and if you could find it there was a limit on it .i was very thankful I had a stock pile .
I love love Vector Cereal , I have it for dinner lots of. I put 1/3 of a cup on my yogurt . I buy it at Costco .
Mixed cottage cheese taste as quark and is basically the same, so common in my countries to eat it.
Salted boiled potatoes are my biggest pregnancy craving 😂
I love the little excuse us at the end...
without a sweet at the end of the day,,,makes me crazy, SO I do yogurt, dark choc chips and some crunchy cereal mixed in a bowl and freeze it, like ice cream but not:)
Newbie here, good video! $192 is good for what you got. We get our produce, etc, at Costco too & it’s just 2 of us now. We eat tomatoes like candy. That box would only last us a week. Yea, the cukes have been a high price for quite awhile. I was surprised about that. Thought the cost would have went down by now.
I am on a weightloss journey and I eat cottage cheese with salsa in it. I love it so much. It's so tasty.
Ok, Christine, I too bought that giant pack of romaine hearts…. I see you prepped all yours up - that’s smart. I’m gonna do the same. But then what? 😂 I need salad inspo!! Thanks for your fantastic channel!
The sumo oranges are amazing! Expensive but amazing
try cottage cheese with dark cocoa powder and stevia, chocolate cheesecake kinda thing going on , super yum when you need a chocolate fix and ton of protein, I mix cottage cheese with yogurt too
Love your videos!
Thank you!
I’ve been trying to eat healthier and add tons more protein as I’m getting older and I do the same exact thing with the parfait. It’s a great dessert alternative but is definitely not a peanut butter cup (again biggest fan of Reese’s here)
A great way to use up fresh tomatoes is to cut them up,and use it for salad, homemade b.b.q. sauce,or
in your tortillas. Our family made homemade pizza using tomatoes,or inside omelettes.
That way they won’t go bad.
Sharen
Tip, put your pears in a brown paper bag, they will ripen nicely.😊
I went to comment that 😄
Try toasted slithered almonds on top instead of granola - crunch, great taste and good for you :)
My last trip to SAMS was more like $600! But I stocked up on many product we use daily! I don’t shop like that but maybe twice a year!
I have 6 of her bread boxes ,I use one for bananas, another for apples etc
When you cut the bottom off celery or lettuce, DON'T THROW IT OUT! Put it in a bowl of water in the window and regrow it! 🌱🌱🌱🌱
Rogue and Speedy for president!!!
You should try dicing up your Brussels sprouts with chopped up onions and bacon. they are so good
Favorite treat- really good 0% fat Greek yogurt with a tiny bit of good honey, blackberries and maybe some almonds. Yum!
I do this but I eat full fat.
My brother and nephews participate in Lotoja every year!
While back I did the same thing with my key lime yogurt from Aldi. I took that yogurt added a small handful if granola and topped with the key lime whipped topping from Aldi.
Wait Aldi has key lime whipped topping???😮
@@dianasimplifies it was while back when I got it. Currently there’s birthday cake and a strawberry shortcake.
@@amandasnailtasticnails9657 I don't know why I've never seen any flavors. Had no idea lol 😆
Have you ever tried a Cosmic apple? You need to. Fry the tomatoes with garlic and put it over eggs. Cut them up and eat with ranch. There you go... ❤
Kroger has Cosmic Crisp Apples that are AMAZING!
Even not on sale, those Oikos yogurts are a great deal.
I mix cottage cheese with honey and mini chocolate chips and make eggs waffle “cannolis”
Have you ever made your own Greek yogurt? I started doing this and I won't go back. super easy saves a ton of money.
You crack me up! Honey crisp apples at Costco have been a favorite of ours for a few months now too. We love them and I think your total is great! I love to go alone and I can stay under $200, but if the hubby comes, it's going to be waaaaayyyy over! 🤣
Try heating up your granola in the microwave and adding a little drizzle of honey on top. A step up and oh so good!
4:36 Mango Spears, Britney's reclusive sibling that no one speaks of.
I love crumbled cookies on top of my yogurt! (so not as healthy as the granola but gives me that chocolate sweetness). Strawberries here in costco are the same price (you would think they would be cheaper here )- Its beginning to get hotter here so salads and grilled chicken- love your videos!!!!
Jesus (photo on your upper shelf) is staring at me, judging me. "I always feel like somebody's watching me." LOL!
