After watching this clip I decided to buy a 3165 loco and coaches. I had them 25 years ago but when I got married I sold them for money. As you do. well these will be a nice Christmas present this year. On another note I have been running my Lilliput Rheingold 4 car set behind the Belgian Brown Pacific 3111. As I have 3% grades on my layout I was not sure the loco would lift the coaches on this grade given that it is driven on one axle. To my surprise and delight it made it easily. Mind you the wheel sets on the coaches spin easily so the coaches run freely. This is a bit different with tinplate coaches and 3048 Pacific,. It struggles up the grade even after replacing tires and making sure there is no oil or grease on the track. Now here is the issue --- I have replaced the steel rail in the M track with code 100 nickel silver rail. So possibly the older locos rely on the profile and the joints for better traction.
That is quite a task to replace the rails in the M-track. All the ramp are 3% in the video, any marklin loco will manage that with quite a load, here is my 3048 in action wiith tinplae coaches: ua-cam.com/video/Gc4TL5-4Bf4/v-deo.html. Have you checked your traction tires? Enjoy your presents...
Another excellent video - great trains, great layout and great sounds. I must go back and study your track plan again to work out where all the signalling sections are. Thank you for the inspiration.
Great video with super trains again and yes, whilst I understand how it works, it is still a bit like magic and very inspirational to see. I loved it 👍👍
Jamais ennuyeux, always a joy to behold. Very therapeutic to watch and listen to. Makes me wonder why there is a legion of enthusiasts who seek to deaden the noise . To use the most misused word in America. Awesome 😮
Amazing as always! Are you using the older style “rounded” pantographs? My experience is that some of the later generations may “hang” in the oldstyle Märklin catenary. BR, Anders
Thanks! I use what is fitted to the locos, in my experience, things hang only if the catenary is not aligned with the centre of the track, or if the joints between catenary elements aren't smooth for whatever reason, for example when extension wires are a bit loose and drop a bit.
These remain seriously magnificent locos. The NS version of course is the one closest to my experience growing up in the Netherlands. Mostly all of them went to the scrappers but some are still in active freight duty by Strukton, VolkerRail, Train Charter Services, RRF, Railexperts, RailRelease, and of course one or two are on display in Utrecht. The best and most impressive livery came from Captrain in French style. Not sure about the French situation. Are some still in service there? Anyway, quite the imposing view seeing them all on your layout. That is, as released by Märklin of course.
