  • Sendai is the Tohoku region's largest city and is a fun place to explore. So many nooks and crannies to explore with a marketplace that reminds me of the old Tsukiji Marketplace.

I lived in Sendai from 1976 to 1977 as a foreign exchange student. The city and its people were fabulous--especially the students who went to Ikuei High School and most importantly my host parents Kazuo and Yoshiko Suda.

I'm so glad you showed us around Sendai. As much as I love you and Satoshi there's someone else who means a great deal to me whose hometown is Sendai. Seeing the places he has maybe been recently or at least maybe at some point in the past has been a real treat. Of course I love all of your vids but this was extra special for me.

I love the long videos. There's so much to see. The fruit and vegetables look amazing, such fresh bright colours.
Thank you for all the time and effort aswell as the expense that you put into making this all possible for us to enjoy and learn so much about Japan. I m so looking forward to bringing my son to see everything and do some exploring of our own

I love your walking tours, Shinichi. There's no better way to learn about an area. The covered arcades always amaze me. They're so open and airy--the feeling of being outdoors but protected from bad weather. I also love the more traditional side streets. Without you, I'd never see these places. Thank you!

That was such a huge shotengai. I bet you could find anything you most possibly need there. It's lovely that they planted trees inside to give it a pleasant feel.
I love the music you picked for the end. Does it have a name?😊

This place is incredible, store's galore and I can see why people like to shop in this city . Love the phone booths very nice touch and well kept. And the fish dog looks so delicious if you could make them that would be great .So glad you met up with your friend Michael, yes I do remember him as your camera man . You and Satoshi need to return to this amazing city hopefully soon . Thanks for the wonderful walk Shinichi Sendai City is amazing. 💛👍

Very interesting tour. Thank you! I sure don't know how you do all that walking. I wouldn't last one city block. I have noticed in this and some of your other videos that there is a good amount of signage in English. Do the Japanese learn English as a second language in school? Every place you have shown us looks so clean and well respected. Japan is a beautiful country. Thank you sharing with us.

  • @Jeni10

I don’t see it as an arcade, to me it’s a street mall or a plaza, then they added a glass roof to protect shoppers from the weather. At one time, they were streets with cars.

This video was an incredible tour of the Sendai station area. We have our second trip to the city over the new year period this year, and you've just reminded me why Sendai is one of our favourite cities in Japan. Cannot wait till we're there again in about 6 weeks time!

Hey Shinichi, thanks for the trip down memory lane! I lived in Sendai for 3 years; I had an apartment just outside of the red light district, and I would walk from there, all the way along the covered shopping streets you walked through (Ichibancho and Chuo Dori) to the English school I worked at near Sendai Station! I used to meet my friends at 42:44 every Saturday night to go drinking in Kokubuncho! 🍻😁

When you feel safe to travel to the mainland US again I think you and Satoshi would love to visit my home state of Minnesota. rent a nice cabin in the woods, visit the largest shopping mall in the country, complete with full indoor amusement park, and visit the birthplace and museum of SPAM. could be a good weekend stop if you plan on being in the states for a couple weeks perhaps on a cross country road trip.
