A great selection of albums, genres and artists. I particularly Like Lennon's Rock n Roll album, for me that was the album that finally showcased what a great vocalist he was. His harmonies with Paul on the Beatles albums were awesome, but this really brought out his voice. I guess it was the material he was performing, the songs that inspired him in the first place, and I can imagine it brought the memories flooding back to him from his days as a Quarryman..

Thanks for your comment. I've always thought that Lennon's vocals on 'Stand By Me' was one of his best. I agree with you about the material on 'Rock 'n' Roll' too. The pressure was off having to write the songs, and these covers were close to his heart. It must surely have made him feel nostalgic for the old days.

Another great video Carl, thanks for sharing and providing you insights. I love that Aimee Mann, I named one of my children after her not long after this album came out. Thrift shops, as we call them her in America, are rapidly starting to raise their prices on CDs and other media - sometimes as much as $4 a disc (about 3 GBP). Looking forward to your next video.

Hi William. Thanks for the kind words. Whenever I post a video, I always wonder if anybody will be interested. That's a lovely story about choosing the name for your daughter. Most charity shops here are either stopping stocking physical media or practically giving it away. Cheers.

The Rock n’Roll left out the best ones which were Be My Baby. a personal fav of Lennon, as well as To Know Her is to Love Her, Angel Baby, another Spector produced anthem.. John had wanted these songs included as that’s where he saw the sales but because of the the bootleg Roots album he was forced by the record company to issue it earlier than scheduled just 5 months after Walls and Bridges rather than waiting 10-12 months.

Hi JJ. Thanks for the extra information about 'Rock 'n' Roll'. I've got 'Angel Baby' on the 'Gimme Some Truth' CD. It's OK.
Do you think there will be a box set for 'Rock 'n' Roll'? I'm not sure. It would be interesting to hear more of the Phil Spector sessions.
      Thanks for watching and commenting.

Great pick-ups you've got their for the price Carl, you can't go wrong on those. I did not know those John Lennon stories you told, i'm surprised I never heard them before. I like that record. Big fan of Jimmy Smith and the B-3 organ. I've got several of his stuff but not The Cat. I have that Chuck Berry CD and it never gets old. UFO and Jackson Browne are also great for the collection. Can't wait to see what else you got. See ya next time.

Hi Tom. The John Lennon stories about his mother were new to me too. I found them on the official John Lennon website. There are excellent articles about all of his albums there. There must be loads of material for a 'Rock 'n' Roll' boxset ... That Jimmy Smith album is magical. The title track is guaranteed to get you dancing ... You can't go wrong with Chuck Berry ... I'll be working my way through the latest CD finds over the next few days. All the best.

Hi Brian. Anthony Phillips mentioned in a recent interview that there is a new mix of 'From Genesis To Revelation'. It's not been officially announced yet, but the assumption is that it will be on Cherry Red's progressive rock label Esoteric. I'm pretty sure this will be the definitive version - after years of re-issues not endorsed by the band. I'll be curious to hear it. Cheers!

Hi Mike. I wonder if we'll eventually get a boxset for 'Rock 'n' Roll' ... I can't get 'Clint Eastwood' and '19-2000' out of my head ... There was a brilliant compilation called 'Zigzag: 20 Junkshop Soft Rock Singles' which came out at least a decade ago. It included Leo Sayer's 'Why Is Everybody Going Home', which quickly became a favourite of mine. So I was really pleased to find his first album. I also picked up his second album 'Just A Boy' at the same time. All the best.

Why were some record companies so in love with their logo? I’m not more likely to buy a Genesis CD just because there’s a giant London logo on it am I?

Hi Morten. Gorillaz are great. I keep singing '19-2000' to myself! That track reminds me a bit of The Go! Team ... There are actually quite a few record labels where I will buy anything they put out; so sometimes it helps me if the logo is big. Cheers. P.S. Do you know the Norwegian band I Was A King? If you don't, check out the UA-cam video for 'Frozen Disease'. A couple of the band have also recorded as The No Ones with Peter Buck.
