"This is what a retail gameboy cartridge looks like"
*shows a fucking copy of Trip World like it's nothing*
Was looking for that comment... major flex
Its a repro card.
@@roykettenis4965 is that a repro? It looks legit
@@roykettenis4965 I know Elliot owns a repro of Trip World, but I think this one is the real deal. The label is the original japanese one and it actually uses a gamebit screw instead of a cheap phillips screw, like most repros I've seen. It also would be weird for him to talk about actual retail cartridges when holding a repro. Of course I can't be sure, but I think it's a real one.
Hé was only owning a repro as far i know but it could be a cheap original one.
Just to clarify, that GBC flash cart is not 32 megabytes, it's 32 *megabits*, huge difference. It's actually 4 megabytes.
139 and no replys let me fix that

Everyone gangster till Nintendo see’s this
Please don’t say that again.
Hi this is my son he is 9 years old he doesn’t know what he’s wrote he was going to delete it but he was happy he got a heart from the author so I said it’s ok
This is an epic gamer comment
My son is a proper little gamer I have no idea what he meant but I’m sure him and others do lol 😂 ❤️
@@Foooooooodie it means this is a really cool and awesome comment
I hope these cartridge have been dumped and published for the community, we need to preserve retrogame and all the different version made.
I remember those DS dev carts back when I did bug testing. They looked almost as weird as those wii's with buttons where the disk drive was supposed to be.
The DS dev cart takes me back to my reviewing days; I reviewed a development copy of a game around 2009 I think, and used one of those carts to do it. Had to return it once the review was done, which was a real shame for my own collection, but it was still cool to have for a while.
could you not have said that you lost it or something? :(
@@ciara6676 Too early in my writing career at the time, but believe me, I considered it. lol
I used to work for Nintendo; and remember getting to handle a couple of these strange carts. I also got a chance to play around with a prototype 3DS, and that was a trip.
Ahh, you probably knew my dad. He works for Nintendo.
I'd still do unspeakable things just to have the Pokémon from those distro cartridges...
Afaik there are ROMs floating around of those distribution carts that you can put into an R4 or similar to get the Pokémon
@@DragoSmash you are correct
Would you murder my mom so I can get her 50k life insurance for it? (I’m just kidding I love my mom)
there's fan servers for the ds pokemon games you can use to get all the mystery gift pokemon, you just have to put in the right dns address in your internet settings and bam
So for each one of these, you've dumped the entire contents and uploaded anything that isn't identical to a retail ROM to the Internet Archive, right? Including examining the "empty" areas for deleted data, like how someone found ancient Ocarina of Time maps on a cartridge that had been partially erased?
Wouldn’t it be cool if Elliot could make a GBA that looks exactly like an original DMG
8:30 sounds quite interesting to me! iQue is chinese Nintendo, not the korean one! (Retail Korean version has Nintendo logo instead of iQue logo on it.)
Anyway thank you for cool video!
Don't let the low views on recent videos let you down, you are an awesome content creator
You need one of the McDonald's work training games.
He needs the McDonalds DS from Nick Robinson
I have a rom I could put it into a Google drive link? Better off just watching nick Robinsons video though because he has the code to start the game and that rom and I don't have the code
is it bad I want a DS devkit along with the dev cartridge?
Imo, I prefer those over the homebrew cartridges. I want actual legit cartridges for “important reasons”
In that case, I would like you to know that Nintendo developement cartridges are very easy to overwrite.
People sell fake Pokémon distribution cartridges by overwriting the rom of other legit Nintendo devcarts with the rom of the original Pokémon event cart. And they sell them for a ridicilous price for what they’re actually selling. It’s no better than any counterfeit cartridge with the rom on it.
My knowledge of these distribution cartridges almost got me swindled. However, knowing this should at least keep you from buying loose Nintendo developement cartridges for Pokémon events or something else of the sort.
Best of luck with finding the real ones.
@@mariksebastianishtar207 You can probably ask whoevers selling the cartridge if they can send you an image of the inside of the cartridge to see if it's legitimate or not.
Thank you guys, I hope to find those dev kits & cartridges soon! Just need to actually do something here, lol.
One more thing: is blender good (& compatible) for 3D models for DS games? I want to make a 3D Platformer (take Super Mario 64 DS for example) on the DS and then let it actually run on real hardware. If not then any more recommended 3D modeling software I should use?
Duh everyone does preffer original
Ones than bootlegs
Would be nice if they sold it. Get more revenue.
Back when I was working on a 3DS project, the 3DS cartridge we had were similar to the DSi one shown in the video. Though if I recall correctly, the sticker was blue instead of red. But that could be my memories that is not accurate since it goes back around 2009 - 2010. lol
I don't know why they changed the 3DS Panda kits to be completely black like the one shown in the video, but the original ones were white on the outside, and both the L / R buttons were black and so the interior of the unit. When looking at the console when it was closed, due to the cameras that were also black, the kit itself looked like the head of a Panda (white face, black eyes and black ears). We assumed this was the reason why the kits were named "Panda" back then. lol
But I remember getting the Panda kits was such a relieve. Nintendo originally provided us with prototypes of the 3DS kits since we were going to release games on the launch day of the console, and they were a big cluster to deal with. They were two circuits boards with two Wii Classic Controllers (a black one and a white one) connected to the boards. The black controller was used for debugging while the white one was for the controls of the unit (the circuit board also had push button for the controls). The prototypes were so big and unpleasent to work with due to how fragile they were, we mounted the circuit boards in actual PC towers to avoid them from breaking while not having to hold on the board while working with them. Some good old memories. lol
This intrigued me
nintendo going to his house: d i b s
People aren't going to shut up until you put a sticker over the UV-EPROM window, so you might as well do it.
Don't tell Nintendo, guys!
ok
Yes pls ty
@@TheRetroFuture what if I do lol
@@TheRetroFuture Ur welcome, Elliot
Lots of interesting things there! The background in your vid is looking good too! :D I want to try and collect some proto gameboy carts in the future! Expensive, but really interesting to own!
Was surprised to see a clip from my video here, but cool, thanks!
Have you thought of dumping the ROMs of these prototypes and other cartridges? This would be great for The Cutting Room Floor (TCRF) to look at.
I think most if not all of those have been dumped already. Might be wrong though.
4:30 Are you 100% sure that is a 32 megaBYTE flash cartridge and a megaBIT cart?
Games back then were mostly quoted in bits and GBC games were quite small and none of them were larger then 1 megabyte or 8 megabits.
If it was a commercial game I could 100% say it's incorrect, but being a dev cart makes it possible it could be in bytes.
Elliot I've been watching for 4 years now and it's awesome to see you review all sorts of crazy things. I love your channel. The editing is so good!
Mirror mirror, what is the rarest cartridge of them all?
Mirror: Mcdonalds game cartridge.
You should dump them, gotta preserve that rare data for posterity
You -really- need to cover the erase window on that EPROM. A sticker or piece of tape. Anything that won't let light through. It will be erased if left in too much light for too long.
I really hope he saw your comment
It feels like as he bought these he didn't take proper precautions to make sure that the roms were preserved.
I’ve got pretty much all the ds/3ds ones, and a few different variants too. Mainly because i’ve been collecting Nintendo dev stuff for a good bit now, but awesome collection!
Here's a fun drinking game:
Drink everytime the word "PCB" is said during the ad segment.
Edit: 10 times he says "PCB."
The black and white design of some of the consoles looks pretty good
As soon as I saw the Panda dev kit
“Ok so I’m going to get a black ds and a white back case”
I hope you dumped the contents of any cartridges that haven't been dumped yet. Would be a shame if this stuff got lost in history.
I do that with books
I know this isn't exactly the same thing, but I collect the Hot Wheels Star Wars character cars and managed to snag three of the four Darth Vader car prototypes for a Las Vegas convention. They had special paint jobs to be reproduced and sold as convention exclusives and the guy that was in charge of it never got to see it happen because the convention itself was sold, so he kept them. Essentially the "rights" to them ran out and he was able to sell them and I was able to get them. Sadly he's not sure where the fourth color is, but it's neat to have something in the collection that no one else has.
Now, if only I could find those five Mexico Convention exclusives, my collection would be complete...
Very cool! I love development and prototype items.
Nintendo: "You have exactly 2 Weeks to send us all of the cartridges featured for secure destruction, you will be paying for shipping and handling fee's"
this is so cool, actually scrolling through my local marketplace a few days ago i found a 3ds omega ruby/alpha saphire demo station for sale, the 3ds, the demos, the big display and everything
That collection is getting serious :). Do you know of anyone with a cart reader and the proper knowledge to read those cartridges? Maybe some of that content is never seen before and needs to be dumped and properly archived ;) (At least the ones with the ROM chips I mean)
Almost expected that meme "FBI, OPEN UP!" in the end xD
That would be especially awesome since Elliott is physically located in the UK. Any attempt to arrest him or seize evidence would be pointless (and illegal) as the FBI are outside of their jurisdiction. He could, in turn, press charges for assault and trespass.
Nah dude, the Nintendo assassins don't knock and they don't have any borders. What do you think happened to the leaker of that last huge Nintendo leak ? He's in the Nintendo dungeon being tortured.
@@Gatorade69 Oh god, Nintendo assassins are MUCH worse than FBI!
I bet beta Yoshi is licking that poor bastards feet till he dies!
@@williamharris8367 Aw, my comment is ruined by facts xD Thanks for the laugh xD
@@miroslavzima8856 As much as that sounds awful for us, that's actually someone's fetish.
Wow these are amazing finds. Never know what treasures, you will obtain
The stain in your sweater killed my focus 🤣
You should put a sticker on the the opening for the EPROM. 🤓
Those dev cartridges are really cool!
Hiya Elliot, thanks for the new video!!! Have a nice evening
The handheld consoles never stop to impress me since I watch your awesome videos. Keep up digging, it's really impressive :) !
That beard/moustache combo really works for some reason. You should keep that.
Really nice. Keep up the good work!
very cool collection!
slightly worried Nintendo are gonna be chasing after you now though
knowing how touchy Nintendo can be with UA-cam in general
Elliot will probably disappear in a couple days. Nintendo has just dispatched their secret Ninja assassination squad because of this video. I should know because my dad works at Nintendo.
i ve become a regular watcher of your videos ...n im just astonished of much stuff you have ...soo much money it must of cost
Retro Future: Shows multiple unreleased prototype cartridges
Nintendo: *_C E A S E_*
used those DS Carts in the way back. I remember Beta testing Mario Cart on DS with that big black DS cart, I thought that was gonna be used for wireless functionality lol. Also used a bunch of those Pokemon Distribution ones.
The Nintendo ninjas are on their way
Pretty cool man! These are some awesome cartridges! Thanks for sharing this with us!
This was so cool to see! Thanks for sharing these
There goes your chance at being invited into the Nintendo Ambassador program.
For those who don’t know eprom stands for erasable programable read only memory
Also the dash don't care is in reference to the truth table of the dip switches
Little did we know those kiosk stands at the store with the demos could be so rare
You always gotta flex your copy of trip world on us 😆
Keep up the great vids 👍
That's cool as fuck I knew the cartridges were hard to get a hold of but dev kit units this is the first time I've seen one
Please tell me you've been kind enough to dump those prototype ROMs for preservation
If not, be VERY careful with the EPROMs which do not have labels as they will be erased or corrupted by UV light
4:37 I'm going to guess Mega*bit* as 32MB flash memory was an insane amount even until the early 00s
If you can see the die of an eprom, that means its a UV eprom, and also its blank now because the way these are erased is by exposure to uv light.
i found one of those large black DS dev carts at a boot sale in the spring, it has a boxing game on it
5:13 The "don't care" is technical documentation: those DIP switches don't matter in terms of setting parameters in some cases. For example, if the far right switch is off, the others can be whatever, without affecting the selected capacity.
Yo, Elliot, diggin' the beard. It suits you.
I remember getting those legendary chicks for Fossil Fighters using the DS Download Station
The next item to collect is the McDonald's DSi! Lol
Nintendo ninjas would be after you but their brains exploded when they saw this.
Are you sure the 3ds prototype carts are blank? My Japanese game isn't recognized in a US 3ds just like yours wasn't. You should try it in a different region 3ds to see if there aren't games on it.
"camera interface" yeah i knew something like that existed -- in the 90s my dad owned a camera repair shop, and they had a yellow Gameboy (original) in the shop.... when my dad showed that to me i was like what's THAT doing here?! then he says it's for fixing cameras.... and i never could figure that part out but i eventually found out over the years there was these nifty 3rd party carts
Is it possible to dump a rom of the DSI dev kit so we can change the regions ….
Can you please make a tutorial on combining a dsi xl and a game boy advance port to play gba on a bigger lit screen would be awesome 👌
I was expecting a video like
"I have 12 copies of barbie"
As if this wasn't enough, also casually flexing Trip World
so cool, love seeing this stuff
am i missing something with the dmg camera cart? how does that work when the camera cant be tested if its not the inserted cart its self?
The closest thing I have to something like this is a Not For Resale Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time & Darkness Demo cartridge.
So for each one of these, you've dumped the entire contents and uploaded anything that isn't identical to a retail ROM to the Internet Archive, right? Including examining the "empty" areas for deleted data, like how someone found ancient Ocarina of Time maps on a cartridge that had been partially erased?
This comment should be copypasta'd on every video like this. Game preservation is important. Also, fuck hoarders
THAT INITIAL CINEMATOGRAPHY!!!!!!
Seeing the exposed window on one of the GB cartridges makes me hurt. It's probably erased at this point.
one of them as an ide conector for a pc on the black one
Plot twist: PCB way made all of the cartridges
He needs a Aprilia DiTech ECU diag GameBoy cartridge. (what?) also comes in a Suzuki flavor as well. Yeah, dealer only tool, unlicensed form Nintendo- cartage that slots into a Gameboy with a line that runs from it to the ECU reader.
A.K.A: "Why I will go missing tomorrow morning."
Awesome video Elliot can’t wait for the next one
Have the roms of these been preserved/dumped?
I need another GB restoration video pleeease since i don't have the money to do it on my own 😂
The DS distro carts with dead servers. Is there any way to maybe host your own server and point these at them with their original media/custom media? Just for the sake of near original use. Its a beyond niche use case, but could be fun for collecters maybe.
I very much want to get a Korean DS or 3DS, there were some South Korea-exclusive titles that I've always been curious about.
Just hack your 3DS, you can bypass region lock and play official SK games that way.
Nintendo just GigaLEAKED into Elliot's Sendico basket
I love the beard and mustache!
Can you one day make a video on all the king of pcb for the GBA cartridges because some of them had battery and other not. For example Zelda didn't have battery and yet you can save
The hands of a man who has been doing drywall.
Not quite as bad as the man who has been doing cement.
Yay second baby plus the last time i watched your videos ( which was a couple months ago i think) you where in the studia thats in your intro and plus you also you never had a beard
Wonder if someone can nab a gen 3 era distribution cart from Japan easier than on ebay. Especially interested if the PokePark Egg carts exist anymore.
This video is like Nintendo ninja bait
The Gba Boktai cart was a odd one it had a inbuilt solar panel
Doesn't light shining on an eeprom delete the eeprom?
I can’t believe Elliot stole those I’m literally shaking and crying rn 😢😢😢
why does that gba retail cartridge look like a yoshi topsy turvy cartridge
Please play all of these in a separate video
