Chilaw Silver Beach 🏖 Where One Can Enjoy And Relax In Sri Lanka!

Sri Lanka has been one of the best-hidden treasures of the world which came into the limelight in the past few years. Adorned by the beautiful landscapes and pristine beaches, Sri Lanka is the best place where one should plan a vacation and get a glimpse of the beautiful amalgamation of wildlife and nature. Whether you’re planning a trip with family trip or want to go and relax like a hippie, Sri Lanka caters to every kind of need. The country is blessed with many UNESCO world heritage sites which offers an exotic experience altogether.
From going and exploring the treks to enjoying a surreal vibe at the hiking spots till the wildlife sanctuaries, there are many things to do and places to visit around this country. There are various places in Sri Lanka where people can have fun. One such place is Chilaw. There is way too much things to do and places to visit in Chilaw which one cannot miss.
This is a town which is located close to the north of Colombo and known for many reasons. One of the major reasons being that Mahatma Gandhi once visited this place. There are many religious sites and beautiful coastlines to enjoy alongside activities like camping, trekking, photography and fishing.
Best Time To Visit Chilaw, Sri Lanka
Chilaw lies in the western part of Sri Lanka. Hence, the best time to visit Chilaw would be from December to March. The weather during this time is dry and sunny. The western and southern parts of Sri Lanka observe monsoon in the months of May to October.
Best Places To Visit In Chilaw
Here are some of the best places to visit in Chilaw which one cannot miss while they are in Sri Lanka. There is not just one but many reasons to visit this exotic location settled by the coastline.
1. Negombo Beach
Situated nearby Colombo city’s international airport, the Negombo Beach is a stunning beauty to behold. If you are looking for a place to relax and unwind from the hustle bustle of the city, then this beach in Negombo is the place to be. Find yourself lost in the beauty of lush palm trees and mesmerizing sunsets. Go for some adventure sports or take a lovely stroll along the beach with a cocktail in your hand as per your whims and desires.
2. Fishing Village
Apart from Negombo sightseeing, this city is also a fishing village. A visit to the fishing village is enlightening. Fishing is how the city originated and still stands the backbone of the local community. Located on the outskirts of the town, tourists can spend a quiet evening walking through the fishing village and gain an insight on how the villagers make their living.
3. Dutch Fort
One of the best places to visit in Negombo is the Dutch Fort. The structure of the fort resembles the Sri Lanka’s colonial days when they were under the rule of the Dutch. A visit to this fort will reminiscence the memories of how the city was during the Dutch era.
4. Negombo Lagoon
The Negombo lagoon is one of the major Negombo tourist attractions. The Lagoon is located 40km north from Colombo. It forms a part of the Negombo lagoon coastal wetland and Muthurajawela marsh. The water depth is about 2m and has a narrow opening to the sea at the north.
5. Hamilton Canal
The Dutch had a love for canals, and the city of Negombo displays it with all pride. There are canals that extend all the way north to Puttalam and south to Colombo. Tourists can hire a cycle the ride the paths of the Hamilton Canal thereby enjoying the scenic views of the small villages along the way. If you haven’t taken a canal ride in Negombo, you are surely missing something.
6. Chilaw Silver Beach
Another beautiful beach in Negombo, Chilaw Silver Beach offers a huge expanse of golden sand. As the name suggests, the waves when to hit the shore in the sunlight gleam like silver. It is one of the best places to visit in Chilaw Still Lanka. The views of the sunset from this public beach are just breathtaking. So, make sure to linger around to catch the sunset. It is going to be one of the most amazing moments of your life.
7. Chilaw Beach Park
Enjoy moments of calm and tranquility at Chilaw Beach Park. People usually come here to take a nice stroll in the morning and evening. It is one of the best places to visit in Chilaw Sri Lanka. You could even bring a book along and enjoy your reading it. It is a great spot for picnic.
8. Sri Munneswaram Devasthanam
Sri Munneswaram Devasthanam is a religiously important Hindu temple in Sri Lanka. In existence since 1000 CE, devotees in huge numbers come to worship at this temple. There are five different sections in the premises. While the central temple and also the biggest one is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the rest are dedicated after Ganesha, Kali, and Ayyanayke. The fifth temple is a Buddhist temple.
