It’s cool to see a axolotl tank that is not just sand! Amazing. Just a few days ago, I was hoping that something like this would/could/have been done! (I’m not joking).
Thanks for this video!! I think the enclosure looks beautiful and i'm sure your axolotl loves it! I also just wanted to say, sand is fine for axolotls who are over the mark of 3-5 inches (at least this is what I was told). Once they exceed that they will not be harmed by the sand particles and they will just pass through. If you give sand to an axolotl who doesn't exceed this limit, it can cause impaction and respiratory issues in younger axolotls. please correct me if I'm wrong on any of this! Amazing video!
You didn't cycle your aquarium, or at least it shows you adding a brand new sponge filter, rocks hides etc and then just introduced the axi. If you do that you will need to do daily water changes for months.
I've got my 2 axolotls in a community planted tank with sand substrate capped on top of aquasoil. Its heavily planted and has a light and they don't have any issues. I keep it around 68 degrees and feed them blood worms
Bro they need to be in 60-65 Fahrenheit and they can’t live with fish you only keep them with fish if you are doing a live feeding and bloodworms are not a good main source of food
@@LR24044 No. 68 will be fine. He never said anything about other fish. And the only thing I disagree with is a light. A dim one should be fine but a bright one will kill the Axolotl
@The_PinkKing That is incorrect, @LR24044 is correct on the temp :) And the only fish that are able to be housed with Axolotls are Swordtails, Endlers, Guppies, Mollies, and Platties. For invertabrates Ghost shrimp and Cherry shrimp are also safe. Anything else like Goldfish, Pleco, Catfish, Shiners, Minnows aren't safe for Axolotls. Other fish carry Thiaminase which will break down an Axolotls Thiamin which is Vitamin b1 which is fatal
( this is mostly for new people btw and if you want to look at this comment go ahead ) ok lm not an expert but you might have to add a little bit of sand to the rocks just in case it hurts the axolotls body and I read that even if they stuck up the sand it shouldn't affect them to much but if you don't want them to sick up the sand while eating feed them above the sand that way they won't suck ut up and as you may know axolotls tend to stress around to kuch light so keep them in a darkish type area of put in a blue light and just so you know sharp rocks may damage there skin ( hope you find this helpful

You are correct but the sand still has to be under 3mm grain for it to be safe enough to not cause impaction :)
