Nine years old but highly appreciated. Wonderful demonstration.
Easy to learn and follow.
Seriously no one I've found yet makes as understandable and as enjoyable demos of modular gear as you. Great video as always!
Looking at a mk4 at the moment, and yet I still came to this fine demo. Classy.
This is a better video explanation than expert sleepers' own video.
man, what a packed module for the price, not ace, super ace!
unbeatable in price and functionality in such a small hp.
my modular supplier notified me about this and watching your fabulous demo i was immediately sold! the mk2 version it will be.
Love your demos, fun, musical, and informative. You sold me on the Metropolis which I now own and I will be ordering one or maybe two of these.
Superb overview. I hope Os declares you the video winning as a thank you as this vid will push his sales through the roof.
Amazing. Love your videos. Learning a lot. Very detailed, informative and entertaining. I keep coming back to them from most other modular tutorials. Watched all your videos multiple times and each time I learn something new. Thank you so much for sharing. Please make more videos. Happy Patching.
One of the best instructional demos I've come across. Helped me realize the mk4 was what I needed.
Such an excellent walkthrough. The musical quality of every example is high, which helps them be useful as well as easy to listen to.
Just ordered one of these, I'm so excited! I think I'm going to need at least 15 more.
Thank you so much for doing this! I feel like I've been fighting with my disting since I bought it. I still can't get many of the cool sounds you do with the gear I currently have but I'll just have to take it a step at a time.
Thanks for a great demo of a fantastic looking module! Brings new meaning to the word "versatile"!
Love those LED sockets. So much information packed into the space of a single socket.
You do excellent demo videos and this is an amazing module!
!!? Must have this. It's no wonder your always using this this. Thanks for the demo!
Yet another great video - great job mate 😁
I’d love to see an all Mk4 eurorack setup using say 20 of these in their various guises controlling and modulating each other.
very nice demo, definitely getting the mk4! thanks
Always look forward to your videos, mylar. Was looking at getting one of these so cheers for the in-depth video.
Nice one Matt!
Aaaand I got one today haha!
Matt Keenan Woop woop! Good work Matt, it will prove useful fo shizzle, not much it can't do
After seeing this video it convinced me to buy one today...cheers
This is a really clear and useful video, thanks!
I wish I could afford to buy another of these. Ridiculously useful!
Nice!, ;-)
Absolute fantastic video. Ordered the module today.
Just got the Mk4; this video is a valuable companion to a Expert Sleepers’ videos on the algorithms. Excellent stuff! Would love to see a companion set of videos that cover the additional algorithms.
Great video, thanks for sharing!
Finally got one of these bad boys. Can't wait!
love this demo!!
Great video once again. Thanks!
Now that is a really clever and extremely useful module.
Compact as well, no panel space taken up by LED's
Genius.
great demo.... many thanks
This is the first of your videos I've seen. Brilliantly presented and shot. And what an amazing module!
However (and I hope you take this criticism in a positive way), it is often very difficult to hear your (silky smooth) voice over the synth. I'm watching this on an iPad with headphones and I'll try later on my computer, but I doubt it will make any real difference.
Congrats on winning the competition and snagging another pair of Distings. Well deserved!
The epitome of a demo. Informative, "just enough" technical, humorous and playful, well filmed, audio spot on, and the music/demo/sounds are excellent! Others take note. (Not to mention what a great piece of gear to be demo'd). Oh, and fetching accent (charming to American English speakers). Thank you!
This is so good. A huge THaNkYou!!!!!
Seconding the fantastic bi-colour sockets - very useful and pretty! Hopefully cost isn't a limiting factor for other manufacturers to adopt these.
nice video so many cool sounds
Great video!
Killer explanation!!!!
Awesome module
You make best demos videos explaining modules. Do you think you could make one about 4MS PEG? Nobody has made a decent one and there is very few videos of it in general.
yes! id love that!!!!
Dear Mr CardboardCase,
You, my friend are destined for great things - best synth (er, Microbrute?! I've watched your review more times than I'm prepared to admit) and modular reviews around. Please keep 'em coming - they are, as you say - ACE.
Hopefully Os of ES will concur that this IS the ultimate Disting video on the net ( just imagine what you could do with THREE of the beggars (over TipTop 808 Beats) ... Oh, sorry you already have ;D )
CardboardCase, lol, i saw that too.
Super groove starting around 04:00!
Wow! I just placed an order with AH largely (or rather wholly) due to this video.
+Hiro Protagonist Ta. Nice snow crash reference!
Only just stumbled upon this module and your vid, 3 weeks ago you MADE me get Metropolis & Atlantis further to one of your vids. Can you see where I'm going with this? Splendid vid. Superbly clear and informative and unfortunately alluring.
Paul Johnson He did it to me too. Down the rabbit hole
Disting 's very high in the list!
Paul Johnson heh, thanks paul x
amazing demo. i've watched it twice already as i wait for my disting mk4 to arrive.
Love that "gangster" patch cable!
nice video :) just came along and it really helped me a lot for my first modules decision.. btw, may i ask what modules where used for the beat at ~31 ...
love all your videos they are ace!! might you know where to purchase the rack that you place all the patch cables on? i have seen several different ones but cant find a source for any...
Hey great video, I have a chance to grab this module at reverb, but it is mk1. As far as I can see you have an mk1 in this video. how are those models different?
Great video. Very helpful and thorough. I love the Disting and have two Mk4s. Just wanted to clarify, with the Pitch and Envelope Tracker, are you using a bandpass filter on the signal from the mic, i.e. your voice?
Nice demo. You are saying that you would like more module vendors to use the colorful backlighted connectors (3.5mm) - can you tell me a source for them?
disting users: how many algorithms do you actually use?
Thanks a lot!
Thats all I need, 5 or 6 of these.
Nice One !!!!!!!!!!!!!Great!!!!!!!!!!!
You know I’ve never really been interested in all in one modules like this. But recently I’ve gotten two Moogs in 60hp skiffs and I’m thinking of making a third tier skiff as like a generative console, and this type of module would be perfect for such a small rack.
You prolly dont care at all but does anyone know of a method to get back into an instagram account?
I stupidly lost the login password. I love any tips you can give me
@Randy Louie instablaster ;)
"good for getting your Eliane Radigue on" XD
What's driving the voice part of the patch around 17:28? Sounds very Autechre/Plaid.
Alex, lets get the mk4 down ;) p.s thanks for all your info! and keep making jack pull some gnarly faces! XD
think I want 15 of them! (don't own a ms20)... well, maybe just 2.
hella lotta bang for buck in a little space.
Really great demo! ...what is the reverb? Being originally a guitarist I tend to reeeeealy dislike anything reverb on most things, but this one I actually like!
great video! thank you so much! btw, what filter were you using at 4:15 - 5:00?
That's the Atlantis I think!
Is this the mk1? I have a chance to buy one but dunno if I should. I plan on having two Distings eventually anyhow..
19:53 really dope
Turn on auto subtitles for this video; hilarious!
Vurt72 Ha! Deaf people must think the world is a very fucked up place...
mylarmelodies "Ronald Ivans Thomas balmes"..... I couldn't agree more with the captions.
signalchef first words I got were "Every time will raison, the Marines"
You need erectional ille!
"cheering machine sequenced by the couple"
Please a vid on the peg and hopefully the new disting mk3..... Your videos are the best online hands down.
31:32 - "Charlie, among other things" pmsl
hey man you should do more of these.
15:32 best sound ever ;D
Ace video! again.
Can we see an overview of your hole rack?
Thanks again.
***** Stupid request once I looked at your other videos. Great viewing.
In the section about the clockable LFO, you use a Doepfer BBD, which sounds amazing! How many stages does your model of BBD have?
+relative lens It's relatively short - think it's the 1024 IIRC...!
Thanks for the info on the number of stages. And thanks for the super informative video! By the way, just ordered my first Disting. (MK3) Yay!
Where can these "crazy bi-color led sockets" be obtained? Please post links to where they can be purchased in the video text above. Thanks.
+MountThor I don't make this module dude. You'll be wanting to talk to expert-sleepers.co.uk/
How does the Clockable Delay/Echo react to tempo changes? Say using a square lfo to clock it and change speed...does it repitch?
kingpishful Hola - it doesn't repitch, it just changes rate at the same pitch, it's not an analogue stylee delay sadly. But still sounds great (to me!). You might want to look at the Audio Damage DubJr module which would give you that (but nothing else, unlike Disting!)
I know that now... Got myself one. Still cool tho
Damn, that's a Swiss Army Chainsaw of a module. Sold...
That FM @34:00 though *drool*
This review is ACE. Could you do one for the Grayscale Algorhythm and Binary modules as I've not seen anything on the web worth watching.
Thanks! Didn't even know about those - these would give you an idea of how they work, but yeah could use a bit of narration: grayscale.info/videos/
What filter are you using during the comparator section?
+rawesome1000 Intellijel Atlantis! ua-cam.com/video/Io5V1LT34qI/v-deo.html
2nd time watching the vid - love it, but one question remains, does this module come with a decent printed manual?
+Forehea d Ta - No printed manual, quite unusual to find in euro, but Expert Sleepers have an online manual for it here (note there's a V3 out now): www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/distingusermanual.html
I was put off in the forums by the unreliable patch cable connections, with these led lighted patch sockets. Is that still a problem with the Disting after several years of complaints?
What do you do for a liveing ?
What reverb are you using for this video? It sounds luscious.
Sounds like my Doepfer A199!
I’ve been researching to buy my first setup for about six months now.
If I’ve learned NOTHING, I’ve learned you need a MATHS, and one of these.
looking for ways to achieve similar functionality in fewer HP :) tips?
@@scottybasp i got a bubblesound hexa(s)r and i run a mix out to a joranalogue contour1 for env shaping (+ it generates the inverted, gives you cv control, etc.). i also have a noise engineering lapsus os for voltage offset/attenuation, and another good small choice is the manhattan cvp (and/or 'mix' set to bipolar for use with LFOs). in combo i'm not sure i am using less hp than maths, but i have 6 envelopes with a lot more control, in only a bit more space.
Can you please make an explanation video for the peg? There's no guide for the noobs for that module :(
Ace.
What cables are you using by the way?
+Stef Pletinck Various - Tiptop Audio Stackcables, Doepfer, Korg MS20mini cables
4.18 is gawjus .. do you have any recorded music on the internet anywhere?
Franks! soundcloud.com/mylarmelodies
Hello i trying to get my first modular synth , i really like the sound on the minute 4:00 TO minute 5:00 can you tell me what espesific modulars are you using (i will like to have the specific names to get them! thanks
That's the Intellijel Atlantis! www.intellijel.com/eurorack-modules/atlantis/
And the Tiptop Audio Trigger Riot and 808 Modules: www.tiptopaudio.com/product.php
And of course a Disting: www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/disting.html
And a PEG: www.4mspedals.com/peg.php
And a Doepfer A199: www.doepfer.de/a199.htm
mylarmelodies for the trigger riot and 808 modules .. can i just add some external drum machines? , i have roland tr-8.... in that case what external in or out puts should I use?
Oswaldo Arias Yeah totally, you just need a way of sync'ing the modular to it. Generally if you wanna do something there's a Doepfer module which does it, so check out the A-190-8 which is exactly that (just lots of clock outputs derived from MIDI). Though you might want to consider the A-190 which is new, but a fair bit more fully featured (it has clock output but also MIDI>CV conversion which you might want too, and various clever extras), just a bit more money.
mylarmelodies My friend all this is really helpful thanks !!
www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/135837
Nice!! You could have some fun with that for sure. One point is you may need some kind of sequencer obviously. I forgot to mention that the sequencer I used was the Intellijel Metropolis: Intellijel Metropolis Eurorack Sequencer Demo
arrrr ... I need that atlantis again
seems to me like the kind of module that makes you print out the function sheet and have it as a poster over your rig...
So what does dis ting do then
do you need a clocking module to use the delay?
SirCat Yeah. Could be an LFO? It wants a 1V pulse sequence to set the clock pulse, but once its set you can disconnect the LFO and it'll remember the rate.
oh cool, thanks!
Can we expect a demo for disting mk4?
Not anytime soon I'm afraid!! Pretty easy wit the screen though innit
Drums are from which module ?
Tiptop 808 Modules I think
Also I was sold at "Christmas Tree"
Obviously some kind of modular cheat code
re-watching for reference.
the only thing that bugs me about the disting is the quality of the jacks (on the mk4's at least).
being completely honest they are absolutely awful, sure the lights are nice but I'd lose them in a heartbeat for better quality jacks
you only have to breathe on the patch cable and it "falls" out
(im even considering de-soldering them and putting in better quality jacks.)
other than that little gripe the disting is so damn good I bought 2 and I'm considering a 3rd
(on the current firmware it is now an 86 in 1 module :)
clockable LFO section sounds like death grips
Is it possible to automate CV controllable parameters on my hardware synth from a DAW, using this module?
+Wot Mate No, you want to look at their ES3 for that, or possibly FH-1?
mylarmelodies thanks for your help! I may have commented that before actually delving into this particular module... but since then I have completed this video and now am inclined to purchase this!
Can you use the disting to affect the sounds out of a microbrute?
Most definitely
Seems I have an impulse buy incoming.
just ordered it, along with some other stuff to start my first modular rack!
Wholly chit mane...Eight thirty to eleven is next level. FM
