Josie English met Jon VERY briefly when I was 17, by taking his brekky to him by the pool at the riverside hotel perth.(I'm 52 now). He was a Lovely bloke & his beautiful nature stays with me today.. No bullshit! Lol. Loved & never forgotten. Must stick beating the boards vinyl on now haha
Josie English my wife's favorite song..your dads a legend..Aussie pride

An icon of my young adulthood way back when.... a lovely man, a fabulous singer and actor. Thank you for the memories, your music, and this song.
The flute at the start just adds to this incredible song from an incredibly talented singer songwriter taken from us far too early. RIP Jon English...your legend lives on.
If you listen to his album Beating the Boards on Google Music, there's a live version there, done like this with the flute.it's great
From South Africa ... loved this man. R.I.P 😢
R.I.P you are such a gentleman so nice.
I just learned he passed away a few months ago.
RIP Jon English, from Iran.

63-64 years at this time and still his voice was this good? Thats great. He seemed like such a great guy too, sad that he passed :(
from Iraq, rest in peace Jon English and most beautiful series in the world against the wind , and since childhood we love him, and the most beautiful song in the world the six Ribbons, and thank so much to Mary Larkin.
a great loss to Australia. we will miss you mate, a great talent and a great Australian that we can all be proud of.
This is what Jon English does when he's not in Australia making shabby TV commercials and playing in musty rooms at local RSL clubs? Why the hell does he bother staying in oz when he gets this in Europe?
+Trinkets and Things How privileged were you?
beautiful song RIP JON ENGLISH
RIP... It'd been a long while since I listened to it, then I suddenly felt like listening to this song twice today, first a cover by Green Carnation, then Jon's version from the soundtrack to Againsst the Wind... By chance I looked him up on wikipedia after that... and found the sad news, just 2 days after his passing...

Awesomeness
I guess he liked '70 english rock considering the guests on his last album...here sound like Blackmore's night.
This show was so good. At the festival were bands covering all genres of metal. From Hard Rock to death metal and the great Jon English. I wonder how he felt performing infront of so many fans of metal that really appreciated his show and especially of course the amazing Six Ribbons.
I'm sure Jon loved the experience. He gave an interview after the Swedish gig, saying he much enjoyed watching the up-and-coming "lesser known" acts in the music festivals, as they may be the next big thing. He always took pride in giving a start to young musicians he employed in his shows when he was on tour. The flute player, Joe (who's AMAZINGLY talented) is an Aussie musician he flew Sweden with him (together with his son Jonathan, who plays guitar) for the performance.
Jon wrote a number of new songs in collaboration with his good mates in Spearfish, but tragically he died just prior to his scheduled return to Sweden to start recording with them.
Mate, you're so lucky you got to go to the festival. Count your blessings. Memories like that, you can cherish forever. I hope Spearfish keep kicking on strong.
3 years after this concert unfortunately he passed away
Awesomeness!
Just reviewed Against THE Wind - Great experience
+Helle Coretto Where and how, please?
So good
This song has haunted me from the first time I heard it, beautiful...It was my wedding song, performed as a duet by friends band, it was so romantic and amazing (it really suits being performed as a duet with male and female harmonies). A wonderful legacy.
Jon english's son in playing guitar
This is so good.
His best performance, love it
rip
Love it
I first saw him onstage in the 70's playing Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar in Sydney, lifetime ago. Great performer.
Now I am a simple man. A poor common farmer.
And Jon taught me that this is okay. And Jon taught me to play this to my beloved.
And so I play it on twelve string, and I give her six ribbons on her birthday. Yellow and brown. Blue, red, green and white.
Amazing that in the mid-70s Australia 'broke' ABBA but Sweden took Jon English to heart.
Like so many Aussie singers never got the true accolades they deserve RIP John
