Does it make any difference if yuh leave the ignition on a few seconds before yuh crank it? Like yuh said is it good for it to build oil pressure that way! Wonder what caused it to leak like that & now not?
Begining to sound like your northern friend. Time is money, i guess you don't count the time to redo it. Your better than that, take the time and do it once. do it right.
I wonder if you're losing prime on fuel pressure, have you tried just turning the ignition on and off first to get the fuel pump to prime before starting?

If its a vortec, two cranks is borderline fuel pressure. Try key on,off,on, crank. If it fires right away, then its fuel pressure.
I had the gauge on and pressure goes to 50 psi as soon as the key is turned on It held for 4 hours after turn off then fell off over night.
