Hello fellow Greater Seattle resident! I'm enjoying your journey into the beatboxing world. I would love to get your takes on two different beatboxer performances: "Jasmine" by SHOW-GO and "Feels like nothing" by Stitch.
Den has also levelled up so much from this point, my favorites of his new pieces are "Twisted Fate" and "Sensations", but "Moments I Had" is also beautiful in every way.
A big part of the “level up” of these is that these are music videos instead of live performances and there was more flexibility allowed in mixing the sound than is allowed for wildcards.
Yes he did level up but I think the examples you gave aren’t great representations of beatbox in it’s purest form as they are manipulated in a DAW. His GBB ‘23 wildcards are both incredible and worth looking at
It'd be really cool to see you react to a group performance like ya na ha's "free your life" (gbb23 wildcard) or "if only" by hiss, river, colaps, and alexinho.
These are great to listen to, though I think for new people it’s easier to focus on 1 beatboxer in solo performances for a while until they get more familiar with techniques available.
I can't get enough beatbox reaction, this is a blessing! Colaps is a recent GBB champion (some would argue that it's a World Champ title, given GBB being the biggest beatbox competition these days) and he has one of the most clean, precise and intricate sounds and I think you would love it! I"m looking forward for the next reaction!
7:06 that sound is called the Sega Sound (because it sounds like it could be from a Sonic game or something right?) It’s a combination of two sounds: zipper and clickroll. The zipper is pulling air inwards through tight lips, which should make a sound like someone zipping up their jacket. The clickroll is done by breathing inwards. You put a little tension on your tongue and place the tip onto the roof of your mouth, then use the inward breath to pull your tongue back towards the back of your mouth. The tension in your tongue will then pull the tip of your tongue back to it’s starting position. All of this repeats rapidly creating a deep, vibrating click noise. Doing the zipper + clickroll at the same time gives the standard zipper sound a rolling, vibrating quality from the clickroll. Complex stuff, I would recommend finding a tutorial for more in-depth info (TylaDubya has a huuuuge range of tutorials on his channel, he probably has a Sega Sound one)
4:54 kind of impressed by the fact that you could tell he was alternating between inward and outward throat bass in there. Not bad for someone who's only started listening to beatbox.
People to checkout for each category of beatbox: Solo: (I split into styles) Bass: King Inertia, Vocodah, Napom, Dlow, Remix, Heartzel, Max Musical: DEN, Zekka, River, Show-go, Gene, Dudz, Pwad, Codfish, Improver, Stitch Technical & Flow: Helium (most drummer like), Zer0, Colaps, Elisii, Alem, FootboxG, Alexhino, Skiller, Kohey (Note for solo - There are thousands more feel free to explore) Tag Team: Middle School, Equilibrium, Rogue Wave, Uniteam, KOTCHA, Mad Twins, Spiderhorse, K-POM, Jackpot, Rofu, Shadow Sumo, Huskey Loopstation: Frosty, Rythmind, Saro, MB14, So-so, Biskit, KBA, Dice, Balance, NME, BreZ, Robin, Chris TheOdian, Matej, (German loopstation is also very good and rising) Crew: Beatbox House, Berywam, MOM, Sarukani, (There are many more but I'm mindblank right now) Recommended Videos: Any high view beatbox international shoutout, GBB23 Wildcards (Helium, Den, improver round 2 are my fav), GBB21 or GBB19 battles
You don't realize how perfectly you fit in to what all beatboxers look for in a youtuber. Someone who isn't familiar with beatboxing, yet can discuss elaborately about what they're hearing. This is rare. Your channel is, literally, the dream to come across for beatboxers.
Beatbox is currently in a transition that a lot of beatboxers area leaning towards more melodic tracks compared to more technical ones from few years ago. And it's not just pure melody no technicality either. It's the best of both worlds. Show-go is a really great artist who's perfected what he does. A lot of his tracks are unique and nice to listen to or analyze.
"If Only" on Hiss's Channel would be great for a breakdown considering how clean their layering of sounds is. Also loopstation battles or showcases would be great.
The breathing in is called an inward drag by doing ts ts ts Kah very quickly and breathing in. You stop your tongue behind your front teeth to prevent too much air from coming in. Just enough for the sound. 5:00 is both inward bass and chest bass. Inward bass is breathing in which is the super deep bass and the polyphonic sounding one is vocalized chest bass that uses both your falsetto voice and a low chest growl. If you read this check the comment it explains the sound you like
6:46 is called Sega zipper where you suck in your lips to make a inward kissy sound by percing your lips and also doing a click roll at the same time which forces the kissy sound to repeat quickly. To learn the sound practice rolling your tounge and rolling it on one side of the roof of your mouth. The kissy sound is very simple. The hard part is putting them together and rolling your tounge so it lines up with the middle of your lips to make the Sega zipper.
Don't worry about pausing so much, that's what makes a great react. I really enjoy seeing yo nerd out on things i don't understand about music, also the analysing aspect you have to beatbox is really refreshing in the whole react scene i think. You might enjoy some more technical beatboxer, like Napom, Colaps and Helium too! Keep it up!
Hey man I just wanna say that typically I tend to skip people who pause alot mostly because I don't find what they try to add to the video necessarily all that interesting, but with you I genuinely enjoy hearing your thought process because they sound genuine and are actually all around enjoyable to listen to. Keep it up bro! Hope you react to more beatboxing stuff and I hope people recommend you all the good stuff
Glad you got to check out this wildcard, these days a lot of reaction/analysis channels get thrown into music videos right away, but the wildcards always have live audio so I think they’re better for getting a baseline of what beatbox sounds like. If you want to stick with wildcard Gene - Metamorphosis is a beautiful one, though if you want a drum focused one, Helium’s GBB23 Round 2 wildcard is really good!
The 2nd routine you heard is freaking Den!!! WTF no one will sound good now lololol This is literally my favorite beatbox routine out of thousands! It isnt techically super impressive, but that isnt the most important thing. That VIBE Den brings is really great.
I love it so much when people they're not from the beabox scene, but with nice music experience and passion to it are reacting to our crazy developed unicorns
I love your constant pausing, it’s a sign of genuine interest and that is awesome to see someone else getting some intriguing joy for lack of better words out of it. 😂🙌🏾. Was a gutsy vid man, keep it up. 😊
7:02 the sound that he makes here is a mix of two sounds. One layer of the sound is something called a click roll. It is where you roll your tongue except breathing in. The second layer is a sound that beat boxers make that is like a balloon letting out a tiny bit of air. It makes a high pitch squeak when you combine them you get the rhythm from the click roll and the pitch from the squeezing your lips together and only letting a tiny bit of air pass through. Hope this helped.
4:56 yes, the grittier one is inward. Cleverly is called inward bass lol. Some people like “king inertia” have a cleaner sub sounding inward bass. And other like den have a gritty but precise inward bass.
i would say the beatbox community really enjoy reaction content, and a new person doing them who also has musical knowledge is sure to get lots of attention from them all, so i would say try not to get overwhelmed by all the different songs you will probably be recommended, just pick whichever ones you fancy. that being said though, if youre more interested in the percussion side of beatboxing, most wold agree that a beatboxer called helium is your best bet, he is known for his incredibly good percussion sounds, i would go as far as saying that he is the best at doing them, most would agree that its not easy to argue against that statement.
if you do, i think his gbb 23 round 2 wildcard is best, or his gbb20 wildcard. you can actually see his mouth in the gbb 23 one, so that might help you understand better whats going on.
A good thing to know when you're listening to beatboxing is that beatboxers produces sound both ways, exhaling and inhaling, that's how we get our breath control. And everything in our mouth CAN be used to make all sorts of sounds and certain combinations of those parts produces certain sounds, like the shape of our tongue, mouth, teeth, all of that stuff.
Oh lord, you just opened a whole new can of worms. There are COUNTLESS amounts of amazing beatbox performances that you've gotta check out. AZEL - Demuth, Den - Moments I Had, Wing - Dancing with a stranger, Dropical - Supercharged, Trung Bao - Venom, Stitch - Feels Like Nothing, Show-Go - Silver, just as an appetizer!
If you want to hear a crazy example of beatbox rhythmic modulation (not to mention crazy precision and sounds), check out D-Low's Sound Sketch (Alton). It's just insane. Love your musical take/analysis of the beatbox videos, keep it up!
6:20 we call that sound Sega Sound. There are a lot of tutorials that explains it well. Took me awhile to learn and now my favorite sound to make if I want to get a reaction from someone who haven’t heard anything like it in person 🙃
Hey DrumRollTony, we would love to see you react to a couple UK Beatboxers such as D-low (sing a little harmony) & Frosty GBB 21 Compilation. Thank you ❤
That sound at 5:52 is called the sega sound, and its a combination of two techniques. The first its made by sucking air through tightened lips to make the zipper sound. The second is adding some kind of inwards trill. There are a few way to do this. You can curl your tongue backward and get the very tip to vibrate on the roof of your mouth (the click roll), or keep your tongue flat but tilt it and get the top side to vibrate (the slizzer roll, which is what Den is probably doing), or gargle while breathing in (a uvular oscillation). Its a sick sound.
You love to see it, you gottaaa keep going bro! I've seen a lot of a good recommendations down in the comments so I won't add too much too it, but some cats that I really like are Trung Bao, D-Low, King Inertia, and Helium
I would love to see you react and analyze to "Hiss - Hisstory" final round of BBU, the whole routine is great but theres one part with time signatures that i would very like to see a professional take on
Great beatbox video choice! Den is amazing specially recorded videos with good mic! Hope to see more man I like your reactions 👌 Don’t care if you stop and go back makes me analyze it more as well 😍🥳
I'm so glad you're checking out the rabbit hole that is beatboxing, can't wait for the loopstation reactions. I feel like you're gonna enjoy to dissect this video : D-low | Winner's Compilation | SBX KICKBACK BATTLE 2021. Imo D-low is one of the best if not the best rythmic solo beatboxer, so talented.
for your next one if you want something more melodic and groovy: Jasmine by Show-go if u want something more bassy and powerful: Get Down by Remix love the beatboxing love keep ‘em comin!!
Ayyeee fellow seattlite i appreciate the hawks gear. Btw you were super close on the inward/outward breathing. The super low bass is all inward and on the second drop the vocal pitches are also inward, den is probably the only person in the world able to do this technique that well. Good video dude!
You as a music producer will appreciate the music dominate beatboxers such as codfish or showgo and there are others who combine music with technical stuff like colaps or river or Dlow and there are teams and bands. So to sum up beatbox is a large universe and you will be thrilled with what you see ❤
Man, I think the video who never fails to cautivate non beatboxers (and beatboxers) it's neither the Jairo tag team gbb wildcard of 2023 or the YA NA HA Crew gbb wildcard 2023, you will be shock by how they just expands the limits of music elements into beatboxing Also another bangers are Equilibrium Tag Team gbb wildcard of 2023 and Wing solo gbb wildcard round 1 2023 This mite by the best year in terms of wildcards
He’s using 4 basses primarily. Lip oscillations: this one is pretty obvious. Throat bass: similar to what you think about with Mongolians. Lip Rolls: inward low sub basses with a little variation in texture. Inward Bass: the lower more “grungy” pitched basses. The high notes in between inward basses are also inward, so he’s popping in and out of the bass while still breathing in
As I said in the previous video, I've been following you for a long time and I hoped that one day you would react to beatbox, and I really love the analysis, most of them just make funny faces and get repetitive, but these more "in-depth" analyzes are really very interesting
if you like den you'll love his songs from the BBU battle. id highly recommend the gbb23 Crew wildcard winners are all worth a watch. Keep an eye out for "YA NA HA" group. insane.
7:00 It's a combination of a Zipper and a Slizzer Roll. So basically you suck air from a very tiny hole from your mouth making that high pitched zipping tone and a Slizzer Roll is you rolling your tongue (like how you roll your "R"s) but inwards. So you control how strong you suck in air to get certain speeds of oscillation of the tongue and combining that with a zipper, you get that sound that you can control easily.
If you're interested in doin more beat-box stuff (hope you do), anything Show-go does is phenomenal. I personally would recommend his song "Silver" though. One of the more jaw dropping pieces in recent memory for me.
7:01 it's basically an inward throat bass. If you pay close attention to when you clear your voice: there is a slight growl (you do it while pushing air out). Try isolating that growl and remember how that feels and where it vibrates in your throat. If you do that while breathing in, you will get inward bass. This can be pretty hard on your voice, so don't practise too much and remember to drink lots of water and, just like everything else, practise makes perfect.
as a beatboxer and a fan of watching reactions, please don't ever be sorry for pausing and rewinding. we want you to hear and appreciate as much as you can. we dont practice for years just to be skipped past like any old pop song ❤
Den uses this very high level tech called the Inward Bass for that pitching bass he has going on. It's created by first doing a outward chest bass and bringing that inward. It took me 3 weeks to even get a sound out but once you get it, it's like second nature. Den is very skilled with it.0
7:00 its called the sega sound inward tongue roll and inward lip buzz, u just need to be in the position and take air in while rollin tongue imo prolly one of the easier sound to do
I think you would enjoy so much the originality of the drums of ice in like this video of him: GBB2023 | World League Solo Wildcard | Round 2 | Question mark?
How funny when video you react to ended you had 4 of the best beatbox videos to react next ( whole right column GOATED! and Remix in middle second column from the right side) I hope you react at least to one of them, because you will be shocked what is posible with your voice
i see some loopstation recommendations, i'll be real just stay in the real beatbox realm for now, way more enjoyable knowing it's all human-made without any machine
If you really want to dig into technical, very rhythmical beatbox, you may start with "Villain - If you know you know" (also 2021 wildcard). You will find this interesting, BET.
Thanks for the comments eveyrone. They are fun to read
I def plan on contuining to feature beatbox material on the channel. What a cool genre of music
Don't say no more.. I'm subscribing!
Hello fellow Greater Seattle resident! I'm enjoying your journey into the beatboxing world. I would love to get your takes on two different beatboxer performances: "Jasmine" by SHOW-GO and "Feels like nothing" by Stitch.
Its a inwards zipper sound with some inward bass and clicks, hee s amazing at it
Brother you've to watch our boy "Vocodah Headbangers"
@@Joshua77787 I dont think he'll like dubstep cause it has a simple drum pattern, but who knows, he might like it ngl
Den has also levelled up so much from this point, my favorites of his new pieces are "Twisted Fate" and "Sensations", but "Moments I Had" is also beautiful in every way.

Historys melody is very sick too
Ye, Moments I Had is an absolute masterpiece.
Up
Or both
great choice!
Definitely should react to "If Only"

Also if you love polyphonic singing I highly recommend Stitch "Feels like nothing"
trueeeee
Yess
HE AINT READY!!!
He's not gonna process that hahahaha
I agree, but "too casual" is really good too

@@sahaj366 LOL I mean... if you want to go down this road we can...
@@sahaj366 yeah he had it backwards which was inward and which was outward, but still impressive that he could tell it was alternating

As a big big fan of musicality in beatbox,
I highly recommend Dudz's "Don't Mind the Rest", with vocal techniques to bop with 🔥🔥
7:02 ,that sound is when u combine an inward zipper sound with an inward tounge role ✌️.
Don't show him Helium, guys. He is not ready...😂
Please react to D-low 2021 Sbx winners compilation! He is insaaaanly good!
if you like den you'll love his songs from the BBU battle. id highly recommend the gbb23 Crew wildcard winners are all worth a watch.
7:01 sound its called the Sega sound and its like tight kiss with and inwards breathed gargle.... best i can explain it over text.
You should watch "If Only". It's a beatbox/accapella production by Hiss, River', Alexhino and Colaps. It's top tier!
Completely agree with others you have to look at D-Low - Sound Sketch. It has an unbelievable amount of variety and skill.
Im more than happy to show you how some of these sounds work :)
Can do a 20 minute zoom call if you want...
as a beatboxer and a fan of watching reactions, please don't ever be sorry for pausing and rewinding. we want you to hear and appreciate as much as you can. we dont practice for years just to be skipped past like any old pop song ❤
MORE BEATBOX !!!!!!!!
Den's GBB Round 2 is Lit Also
that sound that you asked if someone could do it is a combination of a zipper and a inward click roll (inward tongue roll)
NaPoM and Helium GBB 2023 round 2 wildcards are maybe the rhythmically most interesting wildcards for me.
his polyphonic stuff is called inward bass and it’s one of the best sounds in beatbox and one of the best is inertia or dlow
Den uses this very high level tech called the Inward Bass for that pitching bass he has going on. It's created by first doing a outward chest bass and bringing that inward. It took me 3 weeks to even get a sound out but once you get it, it's like second nature. Den is very skilled with it.0
U definitly need to watch Dropical "Supercharged"
7:00 its called the sega sound inward tongue roll and inward lip buzz, u just need to be in the position and take air in while rollin tongue imo prolly one of the easier sound to do
I think you would enjoy so much the originality of the drums of ice in like this video of him: GBB2023 | World League Solo Wildcard | Round 2 | Question mark?
D-lows a must😁
well, i guess if u need things surprising and also musical, i'll recommend "feels like nothing " for ya
You should react to some of Helium's beatbox, he has some of the craziest beatbox drum techniques out of all the beatboxers.
How funny when video you react to ended you had 4 of the best beatbox videos to react next ( whole right column GOATED! and Remix in middle second column from the right side) I hope you react at least to one of them, because you will be shocked what is posible with your voice
That last thingy is called sega sound
Check out dlow pretty much anything by him river, colaps, or footboxg would probably be up your alley as a percussionist.
You need to see D-Low.
ANOTHER BEATBOX REACTIONNNN
i see some loopstation recommendations, i'll be real just stay in the real beatbox realm for now, way more enjoyable knowing it's all human-made without any machine
If you really want to dig into technical, very rhythmical beatbox, you may start with "Villain - If you know you know" (also 2021 wildcard).
You will find this interesting, BET.
Vocal Percussion!
Boulevard of broken dreams from Codfish it's a CLASSIC.
