Купил отдельный дом чтобы мамка не прибила за вонь от пластика , купил духовку и противень по той же причине . Сделал ручку для ножа , правда она сломалась на следующий день . Теперь я доволен . Правда надышавшись парами пластика я заработал рак лёгких )))

You left out some important information. Not all plastic is the same. It looks like you used hdpe ( the recycle symbol with a 2). It's important to use all hdpe

If the plastics is labeled with a 2 inside of the ♻️ it doesn’t emit vapor unless burned. If you keep it at a temperature just enough to melt it your fine.
Ummm, or you can get a toaster oven from the thrift store devoted to non -food uses...
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out not to use your kitchen oven. I have a toaster oven I use solely for powder coating parts. AWESOME BABY! On top of that he is clearly not in his kitchen

This is an inspiring video. If you really want something with a certain colour pattern, this gives you unlimited options.
If you're just disillusioned with public recycling availability though, I'm not sure this is much of an improvement. 1. Heating plastic in the oven could be a fire risk and probably a risk to your respiratoty system. Best to take the show outside on a windy day to reduce that latter risk.
2. The trimming operations are releasing very small particles into the environment, some of which could be so small as to end up in your lungs.
3. These lids can be sent through current recycling channels which would probably do a better job of releasing less of it back into the environment.
I prefer wooden handles on my knives for aesthetic and handling reasons.
Making them out of wood is kind of more interesting and more than challenging enough.

I use bottle tops as targets for my air rifle. I end up with lots of bits. Thanks to you i can now reuse + mold into more interesting shapes. Cheers!
It's a great idea, but in real terms, the cost of the energy, both financial to you and production to the environment, required in every step of this process, is probably far higher than the cost of getting the plastic lids to a professional recycling center.
I believe that what you refer to as "in real terms" is the reason why our planet goes kaputt ...

Actually, getting everyday people to literally recycle is the way. Look it up. The plastic bottles we drop at the recycling center do not get recycled. Only glass and aluminum can be recycled easily.
This is why big corporations should pay part and use it as leverage for governments that they supply products recycled them. But they’re greedy pigs who don’t spend profits on things like recycling people should do it.

I agree as nice as his mom made orbital stationary sander was made, he could have gone up incrementally from 100, to too grit, then 200, 400, 800, and polished it with some 2000 and made it shine. The piece obviously meant something to him to take the time and effort to engineer this whole thing, and the impetus to execute it. People here are all down on this creative man. Saying the plastic fumes will kill him, and that is just a crock of $#!+. Burning plastics produces carcinogens, not melting it, or everything would be dead for miles around every plastic goods manufacturer in the world. Melting plastic doesn't hurt anything, and that's why he was very prominent in showing the temperature to set the toaster oven on, I zoomed in to see because I deemed it important because he pointed it out. 200°, which I assume was in fahrenheit though I'm unsure. I wonder if one could grind up and melt down plastic, then carve a mold like a clay roof tile, and reuse bottles and scrap plastic to make plastic roofing tiles. I could probably make this happen, rudimentally, like a proof of concept using some aluminum to cover the wood so the makeshift mold could be reused. You've given me something to think about...

Having worked for several years out at Williams Industries in Shelbyville Indiana, plastic gives off gases when it's molten!! I would have preferred your safety over a new knife handle myself.

Ну всё, теперь осталось пойти купить нож, отломать ручку- и можно собирать пробки на новую....
Отец так делал ручку ножа, но у него был самодельный электрический тигель. Кидал в него нарезанный пластик от фляжек. Как он потом доставал оттуда пластик не знаю, может погружал внутрь нож и ждал пока остынет. Ручки красивые получались, пестрые.

I like the idea and I may very well give this a try. The main problem as I see it. Is that you cannot work very effectively on the front of the knife, where the handle meets the blade at the ricasso area. That would be most difficult to sand, file and shape it there. You may do damage to the blade. Other than that, really well done. All those water bottle caps do come in handy.
You could try taping it off or use a release agent like an oil there. That way the plastic wouldn't stick to the metal.
More work on that end of the form/mold.
@@socalzaps2848 Where I live, we have dollar stores that sell broiling pans for 4 dollars. You would probably be able to use them more than once.
Dremel tool. &/Or, create the halves of the handle separately & then bolt/screw them onto the handle, so you can fully polish them without the knife getting in the way.

@@user-tl9qx9gu4x да, всё получилось, только на поддон я постелил стеклоткань, чтобы не отдирать шпателем, а форму рукоятки обрабатывал на лобзиковом станке!- рукоятка получилась- огонь, друг такую-же просит на кукри 🤝👈👍🤔🤫💪!!!

Yw, but watch it closely so it doesn’t burn 🔥 and smoke 💨 . If it starts melting quickly, turn it down to 200° and watch it closely, it might not take that long.

So you appear to have set your toaster oven for about an hour at 170 degrees; is that Fahrenheit or Celsius? 170 Fahrenheit would be less than the boiling point for water so my gut says that probably isn’t quite hot enough. If it’s Celsius, that translates to roughly 350 degrees Fahrenheit. That seems more like it. Great project! I’m going to have to try this! I’d be tempted to line my baking tray with foil or something so I wouldn’t forever have melted plastic stuck to it afterwards!

"Easily..." If you have a full outdoor workshop with good ventilation.
Having taught college level chemistry and biology coupled with a true love of healthy lungs my advice is DO NOT melt (nor even heat) plastic. There are all types of plastics, particularly cheaper ones, that give noxious, carcinogenic and worse fumes of all sorts when melted. If you want things like antimony or polychlorinated hydrocarbons cruising your circulatory system and, perhaps, finding a nice retirement spot in your liver, then, maybe. Otherwise, any melting of plastic should be done in a chemistry lab grade fume hood and not simply to make a damn knife handle. Don't try this at home. I strongly suspect that the carbon footprint of making one knife handle at a time is much larger than that same handle being made on a larger scale, in a safe manner.

Да, я сразу подумал, что форму с ножом тоже имеет смысл нагреть в духовке перед заливкой пластика... можно и помле заливки подержать форму в духовке минут 10-20, чтобы пластик более равномерно растекся и заполнил все самые мелкие поры... А вообще, я на все кухонные ножи сделал ручки из эпоксидки с речным песком..
