I agree re rider involvement on smaller bikes . It’s an honest basic reimagining . I’ll be interested to see how its finishes stand up to some use,for me (6’1”)it was too short.I’d be tempted if it was more trails style ( a la XT500) . Back brake seemed weak and suspension a bit flimsy but a pretty pleasant thing. For now I’ll stick with BMW 1250gs and 1971 BSA 650twin . If they’ll make a twin I’ll be shopping .

Sorry to say it, but this bike, has absolutely nothing in common with the original Gold Star that had a 500cc air-cooled engine and had a kickstarter! This is a fake! that has borrowed the name and stolen the original bike's pedigree! Yeh, I agree …..back in the ‘old days’ (60’s) a mate had a Gold Star with clip-ons: a hour on that triggered a back ache. Kick starting it was a challenge too, it regularly ‘kicked back’ and if you didn’t get a broken ankle you were lucky…..this was in the days when “men were men and boys were boys”!
I was a Norton rider, firstly a 350 Navigator and then a 650 SS. Now at 81 I’ve got a 2002 Honda VFR 800 V-tech, fantastic in every respect and a brilliant all rounder. Now considering downsizing to a classic Greeves 325 2-stroke twin as I’m finding the VFR too much of a challenge to lift onto the centre stand!! Don’t get old🥸

Plastic engine cases are poor, the welding was done by an epileptic 5 year old on too many sweets and the engine sounds as if a thousand convict spanners are making a bid for freedom. Even my MT500 sounds smoother and that's been through a war!
The name is also a big issue; is it really good enough to wear that moniker? I liked it, as a budget retro bike and it didn't ride too badly but finishing and quality needs to be better even for the price. When parking it next to an Interceptor or Bonnie you see the massive gap in build quality.
Goldstar? More like 6/10 Good try.
