a GORGEOUS watch to say the least. i tried on the dark side .WOW. i was blown away . it fits so SO GOOD on my 7 inch wrist. love the fact that the lugs don't hang off the sides of the wrist. i'm about to acquire it. just looking for the right deal. thank you . great review.
Anthony, great review! Thanks to Bernard Watch for letting you review it. I also remember when this one first came out and also thought Omega was being a little too greedy on the price. But it is a beautiful piece.
You really do have this video business down to perfection. Clear, articulate and a great arm/hand model for watches, so thanks for all your hard work. I hope this effort brings you satisfaction. My concern is with the ceramic case. A mate here had one of these, dropped it in his bathroom, on to tiles I guess, from about 4ft up, and the bottom right lug shattered and broke off totally. Can't be fixed in any known way. Yes, he's been to Omega and searched our forums, but no juice. So he's up for a whole new case at thousands of $. Alarming, and of course this lead to several others telling of their broken and/or cracked ceramic cases. Puts me right off. At least with St.Steel or precious metals repairs are possible, but apparently not for broken ceramic cases. I'd be interested in your take or knowledge on this matter. I never miss your videos, though I don't always get to comment. Thanks.
Thank you Mark. I have heard similar stories and I too would be concerned about the long term durability of the case. I think of this in the light of any "precious" watch. If I dropped a Lange on the floor I know I'd be in for some massive pain as well. That said, I like my watches tough like Seiko's so I wouldn't be a buyer on this one.
Great review, great watch too. I personally really like this version just as much as the original. They grey gives it a more of a gloomy feel to it for me. Great variety in content recently!! Keep up your good work!!
I am not sure how I feel about this piece. On one hand, it's an amazing package of watchmaking prowess. On the other, I feel like it's too much. I feel like there's too much going on but at the same time, not enough. With some watches, I know right away that I'll love it but my favorite watches thus far have always been ones that I've been on the fence about. Either way, thanks for showing!
not being any kind of expert i'd never seen a watch that lets you change the hour only. if you do a lot of travelling I guess that would be pretty useful. can anyone tell me if it's only a high end thing because at those prices I think most people could suffer a bit of hassle just scrolling through with the hours and minutes?
That is an absolute stunner. Omega are taking chances and finally hitting the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned. Dare I say it..but this company is making Rolex look somewhat staid.
The dial looks grey not black. Especially next to the black ceramic case. The manual wind Speedmaster Professional Moon Chronograph 311.30.42.30.01.006 is still my grail watch. One day . . .
Love this piece. beautiful. I love that Omega made these ceramic, I believe the piece will hold up better with age and frequent use because of this. (especially the tachymeter bezel) love the dial color, the recessed sub dials.. the sedna gold bezel/markers fantastic.. just a beautiful piece. Definitely more uptown for a speedmaster.
ATM a Jaeger LeCoultre reserve de marche... got it for a steal, it's on my wrist now.. But it's starting to warm up.. Will have to go with one of my watches on metal bracelet/rubber soon P.s.- great review of a great watch!
I particularly love the SKX and Turtle. I have a Citizen Promaster Diver that is great too. It is a lot of horses for courses type collecting. I would like a Marine Master 300. That watch kills it in every way that I appreciate. --Michael
I totally get it. After I sold all of my Rolex's and went all Seiko a few years ago my mindset changed. Even though I have several expensive watches now I still absolutely love affordable watches. Take care my friend. A
When I saw one at the AD i was so concerned about breaking a lug off that I just let the saleman put it around my wrist, hands off. Since then I've started to dig these watches and really could see myself owning one. Because of the MSRP, like you say, the depreciation curve is STEEP meaning good deals pre-owned. Great review, thanks a ton.
Most watch lovers tend to be sensitive to prestige and limited series (which Omega has done too many times now). Personally I am not sensitive to that, Nor am I over the moon with this DSOTM Speedmaster, which is crazy high in price for what is -in the end- nothing more then an eta- based movement watch
daviddcro guys, i am afraid you didn't understand my reaction about it being an eta-based movement. Inhouse and eta-based are 2 seperate things. Read this, maybe you will get it then: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ETA_SA#The_Omega_coaxial_based_upon_an_ETA_movement
I think the color is just from the glazing used, they make them different colors as well, as well you know. But the original MOTM versions didn't have have auto winding as a function of their design, not because they were used in "space" and they probably would have worked on the moon if they did use auto-winding but they might have to switch to a denser metal for the rotor weight like gold or tungsten etc for effencency's sake?
Stopped in to say hello. One classic MOTM is enough for me. This one is too big and imo ceramic plated is gross on a luxury piece. Do though, like the date at 6. Even at a big discount from the outrageous retail, better love it, since one will be married to it. When are you making it out to LA. Best, JP
I assure you if I make it to LA I'll let you know. Been traveling a lot around the South for work lately so it may not be this year. We will see if Corporate America is kind to me haha.
Gonna have to disagree with you here, I'd rather go with the regular Speedy look. This Dark Side of the Moon is too dark, the subdials and all the non gold markers and indices are too hard to read. Being all black all the details "blend in" to the black dial, I wouldn't buy it for $4,000 let alone $15,000.
You know what... it's a good looking watch, a special watch, but. It's a marketeers watch. Did NASA choose a watch with gold, an element that's famously heavy, for the first moon landings? No. It's a very very nice watch, but it doesn't respect its history.

This piece is an absolute work of art.
A very hot looking timepiece! Reminds me of a high-end sports car ! Gorgeous!
Anthony, great review! Thanks to Bernard Watch for letting you review it. I also remember when this one first came out and also thought Omega was being a little too greedy on the price. But it is a beautiful piece.
Thanks Mark! Yeah, I really appreciate Bernard letting me play with their pieces.

Thanks Julian, always appreciate your comments and support.
quick question. I'm planning to purchase an omega speedmaster moon watch very soon. should I get the heselite or sapphire Crystal? thanks in advance.
wow, I wear a speedy, would trade in a ny minute, thanks - - nice job
Iam not a big fan off omega but this one is just awsome

Hey stranger! I hear you, I like this one personally however I prefer an original vintage Speedmaster over it.
One of my dream watches , the dark side of the moon !!
A really beautiful watch!
Date at 11 o'clock? ;-)
Great video as always!
Amazing view! Have seen it in person.
Lovely watch, as all the Speedmaster watches
I still like the orinal black version best. This grey version is not my cup of tea. And the date is too distracting.
Reference of the bracelet please?

Doesn't the separate hour setting complication mean that the hour hand is going to be misaligned?
It adjusts in clicks. So no it won't be misaligned

I'd be curious Steve, what is your favorite watch at the moment?
ATM a Jaeger LeCoultre reserve de marche... got it for a steal, it's on my wrist now.. But it's starting to warm up.. Will have to go with one of my watches on metal bracelet/rubber soon
P.s.- great review of a great watch!
Man I wish I liked that watch. I have serious Omega and Rolex fatigue. It looks to be a substantial watch though.
Probably wears well.
--Michael
Have you found your new "it" watch after you reduced down back to your GMT?
J. ANTHONY I am hanging out with the GMT and my Seiko's and Casio's. I have a huge love for the cheaper watches now. I just get so much from them.
I particularly love the SKX and Turtle. I have a Citizen Promaster Diver that is great too. It is a lot of horses for courses type collecting. I would like a Marine Master 300. That watch kills it in every way that I appreciate.
--Michael
J. ANTHONY I also dig the various Solar watches too. Obviously. Haha.
I have found the Eco-Drive Citizens to be so rugged and well made.

So you can't hand wind it?!? 9k watch and no manual wind?
Yes, you can hand wind it as every other Omega watch.
soooooo niceeeeeeee

it has an in house movement
Justin Foord the 8000- and 9000-series coaxial movements are eta based my friend. Whether you you like that are not, they are.
Cedar Canoe nope it is in house

Cedar Canoe I think this uses calibre 9300 ie it is in house not eta
It's a fashion watch at a massive price :)
6 o’clock is the bottom, no?
The gray dial is bland. The Yatchmaster suffers from a gray dial as well.
Nice if you can get it under five-grand, but it's not going to reparable in 10 or 15 years, it might as well be a system 51.
Yeah, you make a good point. The long term durability of the case remains to be seen.

I'm a speedy owner I think they are nice looking watches but, on the cusp of a gimmick watch.
How Many Sudes has the moooooooon ???? 🤑🤑🤑🤑

Man that's ugly, give me the original speedmaster any day.
