He is being very modest here. He was one of the best comedic actors that have existed. Perfect timing and delivery. I was just at Musso and Franks recently and was thinking of him from The Kominsky Method and how good he was. My sympathies to his family. We just lost a true artist to the ages.
One of the funniest movies I've experienced. The kind of chemistry between Arkin and Falk can never be repeated. It also had genuinely funny dialog and scenes. Compare that with the riffed dialog of Bridesmaid, This IS The End, This Is 40, etc. and you'll notice how a skilled comedy writer fashions humor way better than the mostly unfunny riffing in today's comedies.
I am amazed, not only that Alan Arkin knows WHO Louis Jouvet was, but also admired him as an actor. I would have loved to know what he thought of Jean Gabin, France's own Spencer Tracy. What a superb interview. Alan Arkin, a fine actor and a mensch.
What’s weird is how this was aired in June 29th, 1979. An exact date where he would die RIP. Alan Arkin. You were amazing everywhere, including Minions: The Rise of Gru
"...topsy, toy-vee...", Arkin played such a sick character in "Wait Until Dark". Promos warned people that all lights in theaters would be turned off during the last 10(?) minutes of the movie. It was only 50 years later that my brother could bring himself to watch it.
When I saw Alan Arkin in *Catch 22* he was exactly how I imagined Captain Yossarian, the B-25 bombardier : It never happened again with any other actor, in any other movie adaptation of a novel. But then Alan Arkin isn't any actor, is he?
I've admired Arkin since I first saw him in " The Russians are Coming. " Not only adept at comedy but his dramatic chops in " Heart...Lonely Hunter " were extraordinary.
Maybe the most depressing movie I've ever seen. Then again, I've worked in sales most of my life, though NEVER in that kind of head-flattening environment. Always remember: If the job stinks, YOU owe it to yourself (and your loved ones...) to leave it.
have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where Dick Cavett interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney?
I wonder why Cavett chose to deliver that insult to Arkin. Yes, he's talking a lot, and perhaps somewhat self-involved, but it was a talk show, and he was the guest.

The In-Laws is one of the funniest movies ever. The chemistry between Falk and Arkin is magic.

I watched The In-Laws recently. Hadn't seen it for a long time and forgot just how damn funny it is. Had to watch it twice.
A brilliant actor who never seemed to be acting. He was naturally whatever person he played. Rest in Peace, Alan Arkin.

Love Alan Arkin, love The In-Laws, love Peter Falk and miss him.
And hats off to Andrew Bergman, too. The script for "The In-Laws" was brilliant.
Alan Arkin is hilarious and so was 'The In-Laws.'
scottspy one of the best and most natural actors ever, same with Falk.

SO much more substantial than current talk-shows!
Alan is such a great comedic actor yet you can look at Wait Until Dark and see the incredible range he has.
I saw that film as a preteen at the drive-in with my mother when it came out. I still remember how genuinely terrified l was.
One of of my all time favorite movies, R.I.P. Alan Arkin

My dad loved this movie, and introduced me to it. It’s a fantastic and really funny movie with great writing and perfect casting.
one of the best comedic actors of all time
Terrific actor and very interesting interview.
Smart Man! Many Laughs...Falk is a Genius....
I was 10 when I saw Alan in Wait Until Dark as Roat. His character always stuck with me. RIP Alan.

Arkin and Falk are pretty cool guys. Great comedians on film.
Such a brilliantly intelligent man. If we were all as smart as Alan Arkin the world we be a totally different place.
Alan Arkin, a great person!
Loved Alan Arkin. I'm only a dentist. :)
RIP Alan, you handsome devil. 💚💚💚💚
Oh, si-si. He a-very handsome!
I've always loved this movie! Alan Arkin and Peter Falk were great together!

Absolutely love this picture!!!!!
'The Epic That Never Was' is the name of the documentary that Dick is referring to at 2:07. First aired on the BBC in 1965.
Serpentine!!
Kevin Berger hell ya!
Serpentine Shell Serpentine!!!... What a guy!
I really like the In-Laws. It's one of my favorite movies.
Dick Cavett was probably the best interviewer ever.

The In-Laws - Giant, Beaked, Baby-Stealing Tsetse Flies
Peter Falk had a mind like....I don't know.....Columbo? Pretty smart guy.
Loved both actors.
Love "Hearts of the West"...great Jeff Bridges and Blythe Danner flick!
1975 Hearts of the West, is the movie Alan Arkin plays the director
Rest in peace Alan 😢
RIP Alan Arkin 🙏🕊🕊🕊
He was great in the role of Yossarian.
Can't believe he's still working.
REST IN PEACE MR. ARKIN. REMEMBER TO ZIG/ZAG. R.I.P.
Serpentine!
The perfect Yossarian. I knew it was Hearts of the West.
You'll be missed RIP.
Missing Alan Arkin already.
I only have one thing to say. SERPENTINE!!!
RIP Alan Arkin.

Glengarry Glen Ross... so funny, so sublime..

Funniest movie..... ZIG ZAG !!!
Who does Alan Arkin refer to at 3:16 ? I can't make out the name. Thanks.
Louis . Unsure of spelling but sounds like Chevay
Louis Jouvet, a French actor from the early to mid 20th century.
Thanks Internet!!
Just listening I thought it was Christopher Walken for a minute.
Serpentine!!!
Arkin and Falk. Dream team.
Dick Cavett, eh.
Wish they could have got Atkin to have been a killer on Columbo.
He could have been a killer or someone else on the police force… another Detective
Serpentine
I will not watch any other version of this film. Never laughed harder.
Morgan Freeman kept trying to lift a reporter's skirt and Alan arkin stopped him
The inlaws

So...Alan Arkin has been young at some point...never knew that.
That's because you're young. This man's been great for a long time.

Dick is Extremely Boring.
Bad Questions.
Alan was Brilliant Actor. RIP
I love Arkin but can’t stand the smug, phony little fop he’s talking to.
Dick Cavett is one of the worst human beings of all time.
Thank God Hitler had that mustache so we can tell them apart.
And yet he manages to get GREAT interviews, the likes of which of no longer exist.

Two horrible remakes of movies from 1979. Going In Style and The In-Laws.
