“A Woman Under the Influence” is one of the most captivating, “can’t leave your seat” films that I have ever seen. Gena gives a Tour de Force performance. You never knew where it was going, but the going was fascinating and tragic.
RIP John Cassavetes (December 9, 1929 - February 3, 1989), aged 59 RIP Gena Rowlands (June 19, 1930 - August 14, 2024), aged 94 RIP Ben Gazzara (August 28, 1930 - February 3, 2012), aged 81 RIP Peter Bogdanovich (July 30, 1939 - January 6, 2022), aged 82 You will be remembered as legends.
Loved this discussion. Gena Rowlands - one of my favourite actresses, so talented and beautiful. So good in Under the Influence with Peter Falk. Thank you for this.
This is an excellent commentary about John and those who knew him best, Gena Rowlands, his wife of many years, and those who worked with him.. It states how he directed in his own unique way. I always liked his acting but knew little about his directing until I purchased Love Streams. I remember always thinking as I saw a few movies that he starred in and thought he was a very handsome man and an excellent actor. I was so sad when I learned that he had passed.
Unorthodox, a temperament/means of expressing himself, which left some confused, I think John was guilty of that. But, above all, what defined him was empathy. The reason John, Ben & Peter became close friends was b/c they all shared that same quality. This documentary makes that & a lot more quite evident
he made ends meet just by being in tv shows and co-starring in other movies just to fund his own work. truly a very incredible man with a passion for something someone doesn't see at the time.
Thats how Charlie did most of his interviews, at least the ones i've seen. Maybe he does this to get into the mind of the viewer, who might not know who these people are.
The interwiever didnt know hoy many years Gena and John were married.. he wasnt up to the meeting...or should be read a little more for knowing was to ask
If this interview is from 2004, I wonder why a) Peter Falk wasn't there and b) why they seem to be talking about Peter Falk in past tense. (He died in 2011.)
I adore Gena. Gena tells a diff story how her and John hooked up. They met at some actors studio. It was love at first sight. They were inseparable from then on. Here, Gena says six months later after first setting eyes on him. Hummm🤔No matter maybe Gena was already showing signs of Alzheimer’s 😖
A bit about John the way I perceive. He was for a woman. The Man in every her movie .. going on every second. So that there becomes no second. However Mumtaz she might be

Absolutley, four genius artists whose work has touched and softened so many hearts. Incredible.
The world is held together by the wind that blows through Gena Rowland's hair.
Great statement and I agree 100%.
@@restless4400 I can't take credit for that. It's a beautiful song with that title by the American Music Club. Check it out!
@@plev10 Oh wow! Thanks for the info - I will definitely check it out.
That's been a wig since 1985. 👍
Whatever you do, don’t sleep on Mikey and Nicky.
Yes, she was “some kind of beautiful”… and so much more. RIP
The box set was my introduction to John's work. Definitely my one of my favourite filmmakers of all time
Gena Rowland’s facial expressions were so unique ❤
IMO Cassavetes is the greatest film director of all-time. He is indeed a "film poet".
Film-Poet...Man that's Crazy! Far out Daddio!
Like... Rimbaud meets Cassady in The Mineshaft! ❤

Gena. The Best. Born actress
So grateful to be able to see this.
best actors ever gazzara Rowland's
I forgot he co-starred in "Rosemary's Baby". Gena Rowlands is just a brilliant actress!
I saw 10 minutes of Husbands accidentally, 15 years ago...and i never forgot it. It was them on the train...just talking...smoking...it stuck with me.
Why not watch the whole movie?
Gena Rowlands is so beautiful!!!
Love Streams is one of the best movies ever made
Loved John's work - saw Shadows when I was 15. This interview is priceless..Thankyou.
A great filmmaker. A fine poet.

Cassavetes starred in JOHNNY STACCATO (TV) in the late 50s. Great show.
Terence Boris As a child I was drawn to John Cassavetes

What an amazing artist
Ah, Gena. No actress has touched my heart as much as you have. Your memory is a blessing.
Cassavetes was a genius.
John Cassavetes was funny in "The Dirty Dozen".
Charlie Rose sounds like he knows absolutely nothing about Cassavetes.
Thats how Charlie did most of his interviews, at least the ones i've seen. Maybe he does this to get into the mind of the viewer, who might not know who these people are.
I think that is what makes his interviews the most interesting.
He says to Jay-Z : ' tell us about the enduring legacy of Two-pack Shahkoor'
She was a great performer I loved her roles especially with James Garner she will be missed
who are you talking about? gena rowlands is still alive

Bc he had cognitive deterioration
@@amberwaves6091 that long before he died? how sad
What did Peter Bogdanovich say that was bleeped out?
"F*ck 'em if they can't take a joke."
Way to mispronounce pretty much everybody's name, Charlie.

That doest even make sense.
Bogdonavich seems so damn straight. This is the guy who directed What’s Up Doc?
?
Bogdanovich is out of his coffin, it must be dark now.
Charlie Rose, what a lifelong SICKO; he's despised around the world. Everyone else here is gold.
I’ve seen quite complimentary comments about him.
What makes him a sicko?
