Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Live long and prosper 🖖🏻
Glad to see you back! This is an awesome one. I was just starting my first job in the arcades as this tech marvel was coming out. That much like MK months before it drastically changed the clientele that was not only drifting into arcades, but was pretty much living there after school. These machines shipped with oversized coin drawers and were having to be emptied on Friday afternoon just to make it to Sunday evening. I have no mental reference of what the teenage crowd was like in the Pacman fever era, but even my boss at the arcade said he had never seen anything like this before, even in the 80s when Dragonslayer came out. We had a few Midway (Jam/MK) machines and people lined up to battle the next winner from open to close on weekends, and holiday weeks in the winter hours. Anyways thanks again for the awesome content!
Dude, love the story! Thanks for sharing it. It was pretty much the saame at my local arcades when it came out and maybe even more so with Tournament edition. I'm going to pin your comment for a while so others can read it and thank you again!
I've had drinks with him at practically every gaming convention I've been a guest at since, but it was actually Human Interact got him to record that like 6 years ago or something. I've just been sitting on it forever. Pretty nice guy too.
If you were a kid back when this game was big, it is an accurate statement to say EVERYONE had this game. It took over the industry at the time. Great work as always!
I met Tim Kitzrow, John Carolton, Pesina brothers at a local arcade two years ago. They were all so kind and willing to talk. Raw Thrills is working on an arcade cabinet with Tim called NBA Superstars. They are the team behind Guitar Hero Arcade, Cruis'n Blast, Injustice Arcade, Halo: Fireteam Raven, and more.
I love this channel. It always hits so hard and the effort involved is obvious with the 3D production values. Seeing GameSack and MVG commenting speaks volumes.
I don't know how you have the talent to produce so many facets of those videos. I'm always in admiration of this kind of creativity. I remember trading NBA Jam for Mario Kart for a week with my best friend as a kid and one day his mom came over and ask for the NBA Jam back and I just said "no" hahaha we laugh about it to this day. What an epic game. My go to were the Supersonics. Awesome video seeing the backstory of this amazing franchise! Keep up the amazing work!

I've always hated sports, and never liked basketball, but I loved NBA Jam. It was the only sports game I ever played. I remember spending a lot of time at the arcade when I was a teenager playing that game.
I'm reading that a lot in the comments. Jam and Blitz were games anyone could enjoy even if they hated sports. I myself don't really watch sports but loved both of those series of games.

@WrestlingWithGaming okay look forward to that and really good work on NBA Jam I remember playing this in the arcade at Galpin ghost and renting it playing it with my brothers
I absolutely LOVED NBA Hangtime, it was the birth of my nickname where I created my first created character with a basketball head. I used to play TE SO much on my SEGA before then. Such an amazing franchise!
From around 1987 to 1998 I was really into basketball and the NBA. I played it on teams, collected basketball cards, had jerseys and clothing, new shoes each year, went to basketball camps in the summer, and watched it all the time on TV. I also was VERY into video games throughout that time. Both in arcades and at home, having as many as 5 home consoles at my peak. NBA Jam was a game that I really enjoyed. To some extent it was limited, and a short play. Nothing like Legend of Zelda Link to the Past or others like that. But it was just fun. I played it in arcades and on my SNES. It was a real mark of that time. Something I’ll always associate with the early and mid-90’s.
This is a very well made arcade documentary video that you don't see too often. Please do more videos on other arcade games. I suggest...Metal Slug on the Neo Geo.
Thanks so much! tbh, I probably won't make a dedicated Metal Slug video but I did make a pretty extensive video about NEO GEO and I do discuss Metal Slug briefly in that. But it's more about the history of the NEO GEO.
Growing up in Chicago and seeing Midway put out machines before anywhere else was something else. I'll never forget at around age 8 at Just Games on Harlem Avenue a 20-something year old came in and plopped a quarter on the MK II screen I was at. He would eventually perform a Fatality on me, revert it to a Babality, back into fighter form.. and then into another Babality before exploding the baby into a Fatality. As the only witness to that, none of my friends at the time believed me.
Another banger of a video! 10/10 production values as always. We still have NBA Jam on both Genesis/Mega Drive and SNES, an absolute classic whether you cared about the sport or not.
Awesome job. Your videos are always top notch. Jam is one of my favorite arcade games. I’m still hoping for the NFL Blitz video to be coming eventually.
Despite not actually ever playing it, I've seen quite a few documentaries about NBA Jam here on YT. They all mostly cover the same stuff, I was worried this was gonna be another rehash of basically the same things, but yours actually stood on its own and went over a lot of things that weren't covered in those. Really awesome. Wasn't much of a football guy, but I used to play a ton of NFL Blitz though ("I brought the hurt on you boy!" lives in my head rent-free). Cool to see that it shares a common thread with Jam. Maybe I oughta play it some time. Great work my dude. Love that you're back in action.
High Digitized (Not sure how to spell it) graphics are burned into my mind when I used to walk into Tilt. The loud noises, flashes, real people in games were something new that I never saw before due to the NES days. Take me back!!! lol

sound track on the super nintendo version was pretty good. probably only nba game for consoles i actually got addicted to playing. i actually played it more than street fighter each match was intense and similar to fighting match in street fighter. like a real duel. it was also fun in that it you can have friend play also.
New Wrestling With Gaming video? Hell yeah!! New Wrestling With Gaming video about NBA JAM? HE’S ON FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ** EDIT ** 3:42 Air Morris = WIL Jan 1
I loved Total Carnage as a kid, we never got a home console port and I hated it. We supposedly did get an SNES version but it did not exist. Never saw it ANYWHERE
One of my all-time favourite games that I owned on the SEGA Megadrive (Genesis)! You could do some sick dunks, and the ball would turn golden when you're on fire 😅 🎮🏀
Worse, ONE guy got a million 😬. But to be fair, it grossed a billion dollars in quarters for arcade operators, not directly to midway. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find the royalty amounts for the rest of the people that worked on it outside of the bonus for finishing the game early.
Amazing content as always this channel deserves more praise as one of the best. NBA jam on the mega cd was the first basketball game I ever played and everything after that was always a huge disappointment really skewed my opinion of what a sport game should be at that point.
In my experience, the rubberbanding difficulty was very obvious and triggers way too close in terms if score. We used to just keep the score within three points to keep the game fair until the end when we would turn up the heat. This feature forced players into a specific meta if you played more seriously.
Man. . .imagine owning an NBA Jam cab with Jordan in it with Pippen, instead of Grant. Especially in their first Dynasty era? It woulda been crazy! I bet no one’s gonna play the other teams, and it will always be the Bulls that gets all the mileage hahaha 😅

sound track on the super nintendo version was pretty good. probably only nba game for consoles i actually got addicted to playing. i actually played it more than street fighter each match was intense and similar to fighting match in street fighter. like a real duel. it was also fun in that it you can have friend play also.
New Wrestling With Gaming video?
Hell yeah!!
New Wrestling With Gaming video about NBA JAM?
HE’S ON FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
** EDIT **
3:42 Air Morris = WIL Jan 1
😁
If I ever open that barcade I hope to someday retire on, I’m definitely having this game as a mainstay.
I loved Total Carnage as a kid, we never got a home console port and I hated it. We supposedly did get an SNES version but it did not exist. Never saw it ANYWHERE
NBA Jam was the only basketball video game that I liked. I seem to recall mostly playing the Game Gear version.
One of my all-time favourite games that I owned on the SEGA Megadrive (Genesis)!
You could do some sick dunks, and the ball would turn golden when you're on fire 😅 🎮🏀
The game rakes in one billion and people responsible for the work get just one million. The industry hasn't changed.
Worse, ONE guy got a million 😬. But to be fair, it grossed a billion dollars in quarters for arcade operators, not directly to midway. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find the royalty amounts for the rest of the people that worked on it outside of the bonus for finishing the game early.
Would you cry about becoming a millionaire?
Hell yes! Welcome back, CD-i Thor!! 👏🏻👏🏻💪🏻💪🏻
lmao someone has to wield the power of the mighty CD-i.
Dennis place for kids wow. I used to go there all the time as a kid. Especially after little league
👏🏻👏🏻 Great Work! 👏🏻 👏🏻 .
It was a success even in Brazil. 🇧🇷
Thank you!
yes, yes and yes! such a great video I feel like I have seen it before! wow and totally awesome!
Glad you liked it!
I always liked the graphics for the SNES and Genesis ports more than the original arcade version because of the limitations.
You can now get NBA JAM tournament with Jordan, Shaq and brought back the mortal Kombat characters arcade port.
Amazing content as always this channel deserves more praise as one of the best.
NBA jam on the mega cd was the first basketball game I ever played and everything after that was always a huge disappointment really skewed my opinion of what a sport game should be at that point.
Thanks a lot for the kind words! And I hear ya, it was hard to go back to a "regular" basketball game after NBA Jam.
Just a small FYI, but the original Mortal Kombat only used the T Unit hardware for its last two revisions. Prior to this, it used the Y Unit hardware.
I bet no one’s gonna play the other teams, and it will always be the Bulls that gets all the mileage hahaha 😅
one more great video. congrats
Thank you very much!
A nice watch, thanks.
Glad you liked it, thanks!
10:16 what a great transition
Thanks! Gotta admit, I'm pretty proud of that one.
Wonderful video
Thank you!
TE is my favorite of the series 😍
It's such a great sequel
@WrestlingWithGaming I don't know it's a hot take, but Hangtime is my 2nd favorite, even more than the original 🤷
@@Aragorn7884 I think at the very least hangtime is underappreciated
