  • Welcome to episode lucky 13 of the Knotty Giraffe knitting chat. In this episode I talk about my latest summer knit--yes, it's another Ranunculus--along with a free baby sweater pattern, struggles with my Starry Night-mare sock yarn and more. I also talk about what I've been reading this past month and have a small spattering of photos from my trip to Newfoundland.

You always have so much going on! Nice to hear a little about your recent trip to Newfoundland and loved the photos you shared. Your pink ranunculus looks so nice on you, really pretty, really summery. So scary about the car accident. Gosh, you never know, right? So glad you are OK (and the dogs.). I've gone down the Summer Lee "The Sock Project" rabbit hole for a while, getting excited about playing with color and design on various sock projects for myself and my family. Also learning how to modify various parts of a sock to get a really good fit. For now, that's what I'm working on and other projects are "waiting" for me. haha. Gosh, I share your horror of the Starry Night-mare sock yarn. It does not evoke any aspect of the masterpiece of the same name. An abomination! haha. But you made nice socks and they will keep your feet warm next winter. Love how you hid the remaining traces in your Jelly Roll blanket. 😁

Thanks for your kind words, Anne. I'm still counting my lucky stars that the dogs and I were fine. And thanks for confirming my Starry Night-mare disappointment. I've just discovered Stephen West's Color Popportunity Sock knit along and am thinking of joining it. Hope you are not too hot where you're living and thank you once again for being so kind with your comments.

Sorry to hear about the car accident. Hopefully you have recovered well and got some new wheels. Scary stuff! Congratulations on getting a book published!! How fantastic!! Love that you got souvenir yarn from Newfoundland. 'Magical' really is the best word to describe that place. I've never been to Gros Morne ... wow it looks beyond incredible!! Thanks for a very enjoyable podcast. Hope you are having a wonderful fall.

What an honour to see a comment here from you as I am an avid Knitty Stew fan! I just finished watching your podcast from PEI. I was there back in 2019 and loved it so much, thought about moving there! Skinny dipping at Greenwich beach (twice!) was a highlight. You should put in for a flight to Deer Lake NL next summer and see if you can get a layover so you can explore Gros Morne. It is unbelievable and you'd love Molly Made yarn store in Woody Point. I was just back there again in August for the Woody Point writers festival. Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to comment, it means a lot

@@knottygiraffe Aw thanks Glenna! We used to have REALLY REALLY long Deer Lake layovers, and I didn't see any this past season. I would definitely enjoy that. Please let me know when your book is published and I'll be sure to grab a copy!
I know it takes a while, but time flies. :)

Thank you for another enjoyable podcast. The little cardigan is cute. Too bad about the starry nightmare. I'm glad to hear that your accident wasn't worse. I'm waiting for Lessons in Chemistry from the library.

Thanks. I'm truly lucky that it wasn't worse as my dogs were in the back of the car and could have easily been killed if not for the way Subaru designed their cars for impact. All is well, thanks for your kind words and thanks for watching.
