With their money, their hands. ++ On the edge of it, new buildings were built not long ago.(owners of the construction side wanted to destroy the whole park). Thankfully, the builders of Burnside fought with the owners (and the city) so their dream stayed alive! So yeah they fkg build that place! At least have respect towards them.

I’ve seen old videos on the internet of my local skatepark with only skaters there but that was like 13 years ago. Skating is dying it seems 😢

Portland's Burnout Park, one of the many places to zombie-watch in the city. When the people have nothing, they will fight over everything. Its funny how quick they are to grab a $20...if they were so principled, would they even take scooter-money?
People get mad when I hop on a board and can nose blunt a hand rail, hop on a scooter and bar 5-0 that same rail then hop on a bike and crankflip double peg that same rail. I ride all 3. I have my bike on my roof with a board and scooter in my trunk at all times

I skated down to burnside from the convention center max stop carrying a roll of chicken wire on my shoulder in 91 to put it down for layin better cement than just on top of dirt. And yeah, these poser, gatekeeping snobs make me sick. Portland is full of them and I don't regret leaving that city one bit. I can't imagine Red or any of the dudes that helped build that place in the 90's giving a shit if some capable scooter riders wanted to roll in that place.

When I was still big into bmxing, there were a few skaters that tried to push bmxers out of the local parks with similar aggressive riding shit that you guys encountered. Needless to say, they quickly discovered that a skateboarder didn't quite have the same momentum as a BMX and its rider. I don't know why skaters have become so exclusionary lately, but it seems to be a thing all around, not just there.

They built a skate park in my hometown to keep people on skateboards off the road and they have signs up saying if you are using a scooter be careful around the people on skateboards

Back in the day when I started snowboarding the skiers HATED boarders and vice versa! There were often physical fights in the lift lines.
I was learning to board and started in the morning, the skiers would hassle me and spray me with snow on the runs. Then I’d get tired of sucking, go down for lunch and switch to my skis in the car. Then ski the rest of the day where the snowboarders would talk smack and try to kick me out of the terrain park.

Unfortunately actually scooter riders get a bad rep even though we didnt do anything. Its also important to teach new riders etiquette.. i think people are more patient with young skaters too
